The Becoming Of A Crayterian - Doreen - 07-22-2017

Bethlehem Station, Pennsylvania

When the Zoners of Bethlehem called for her medical services on station, it was the perfect chance for Doreen to leave Houston for what she would hope would be her last time. She was never happy there and the calling of the Crayter Republic was an opportunity to start anew. She anticipated acceptance so she took the bold task of putting up her Houston condominium up for sale. Luxury condos on Houston outside of the capital city weren't easily available nowadays so she figured that it would go quick and fetch a good price.
Along with her wardrobe and everything she owned and her young son, Benjen, she packed her hopes and new dreams into her Sunburst. For the moment, she was officially homeless. She only hoped that she wasn't making the same mistake she had made years earlier when she left her family on Hamburg to find her missing father only to be left adrift by a lie and a dead Red Hessian in an escape pod in the fields of Omega 41 about ready to give birth.

For the moment, she was tired. The trip from Houston to Bethlehem was never easy as three packs of Xeno patrols attacked. She fought them off but an accomplished fighter she was not. After taking care of several patients, she just wanted a rest. Benjen was sleeping in the quarters she was provided on station while she sat in the bar for a meal and some Gallic Wine.
There were only two Zoners, a Bounty Hunter and the bartender so the quiet was welcome. She let her hair down and was in a casual blouse as she went over some files on her datapad.
She had no idea when the Crayter ship would arrive to bring her to Coronado but for the moment, she wasn't worried.

She thought ahead to the meeting she would have with their leadership. She smiled a bit knowing what she had to offer. What she didn't have in ability she had in contacts. The promises of new facilities and a plush new world to live on sounded attractive. Gran Canaria offered those things until the icing began but that wasn't an issue where she was headed. She knew little about Planet Yuma as she had never stepped foot on it. "Vast seas and a wide equatorial band of humid tropical terrain" sounded good to her. A day on the beach during an off day wasn't a bad thing, after all. She could only snicker at the thought.
Best of all, it was a new place for Benjen to get a fresh start. No more discrimination because he was the son of a Rheinlander. He had been through enough.

And on a personal level, the same for Doreen herself. When the Tinker's closed up, she was left with nothing but a small practice on Houston and a dwindling supply of regular patients. While her Rheinland accent was virtually non-existent, it only took one person to figure it out. Having been exiled, she had much in common with the Crayterians......both had been driven from their home. With a sigh, she took a sip of her wine as she had finished her dish of chicken. The waiter re-filled her wine, took her plate and left her to her peace.

All she could do now was wait.

Bethleem Station was straight ahead. The pilot of the "Gaia-II" was doing the final manouvers for a safe landing on the pad A.

"This is an interesting trip" he confess to his colleague "the person we are picking up must be really important if the minister secretary is here along with 4 AIT"

"Yes,I heard the manifest, we are picking up a doctor of some sorts. Her and her child"

"Interesting. Who knows what scheme did the minister was thinking.." the lights on the panel were announcing a proximity alarm "We have docked with the station"

"Sir, we have docked with Bethelem, we are waiting for pressuring the bay. Thank you"

"I am just curious how she is going to help the Republic" changing the channel " Bethelem Station, this is CRS-19, designation Gaia-II. We finished docking procedures and we request permission to enter the station" He awaits for the go and inform the secretary "Sir,we are ready"

A tall gentlemen is making his way towards the station Bar, escorted by two bodyguards, their gear showing that they seen enough action and that they are to be feared. In contrast with them, the person escorted wore plain dark protocolar uniform with a small phoenix on the left side, his blue eyes were secretly searching all the persons he encounteres hoping to meet the doctor.

Reaching the bar doors,he is checking his appearences in the reflexion of a mirror and address the two soldiers " Please boys, try to blend in with the people and not to be to... Soldierly. Get it? " and with the small nudge from the soldiers,he enters the bar.

Quickly scanning the people,he found the person he was looking for, having a glass of gallic wine and he heads for her table.

"Greetings Doctor, I hope I am not disturbing you. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Karl Atreides, Secretary of Minister Ryo Kase." he smiles " I believe we are supposed to meet,ma'am. "

"May I? " he asks while he takes a seat and he orders a drink.

She looked up at the three men who approached her. She smiled at them and quipped, "I don't think I've ever had three men approach me at once. Maybe my luck is finally changing."
She then stood up and offered her hand as her smile brightened a bit, "Please, have a seat and a drink."
Sitting down, she began to introduce herself. "Yes, I am Dr. Doreen Naggar. It is a pleasure to meet you Mr. Atreides."

She kept her demeanor pleasant, professional and with a touch of humor. As a courtesy, she turned off her datapad and placed it face down on the table. She gave them a glance.
"I have been doing some reading on the Crayterian Republic," she explained, "I think the Pheonix is a fitting symbol for all that the Crayterian people have accomplished and been through."
She then paused, placing her open hand over the upper part of her chest as she sighed, "I'm having one of those moments where I'm not sure where to begin."
With her other hand, she took a sip of wine.

Frank smiles as he watches the Doctor putting down the pad and listening to her last remark he straighten in his chair.

"Doctor, I think I understand you. I am not a born Crayterian, I was adopted by one of the families, hence my last name. I was an orphan as my family came from Rheinland to Tau in search of a job. Unfortunately, they were killed by the Outcasts and that is how I found myself living with the Crayterians." he pauses for a while " I think you may be anxious about all of this and also of this offer just appearing out of the blue. But, I say that you must first see our territories, the offer and then you can choose what you want. Even if you decline to work with our agencies or with the government, the offer of residency is still up with full benefits for you and your son."

Frank takes a sip before he continue "The Republic is different then any other nation or groups in the Sirius sector. We are always in a middle of an war or Exodus and that lead to a kinda militaristic thinking, hence my two escorts. Oh,by the way,one of them is to assure yours and your child protection. But you will find that as a whole we are honorable, trustworthy and you know what we think. Our society is build partially upon those virtues."

Frank looks at the watch " Also ma'am, the ship Captain has instructed me to arrange that all your luggage to be moved to GAIA-II. But judging by the time, should we delay our departure as I am thinking that your kid, Benjen isn't it? may be asleep? "

Frank pours a second glass of wine "Have to admit it, the Gauls make a good wine. The Council is supplying us with it and I find it interesting, but still would prefer a Supernova..."

RE: The Becoming Of A Crayterian - Doreen - 07-23-2017

Doreen just smiled. "No, Bennie made a friend while we've been here. He's in playing. He'll sleep well on the trip......" She then yawned, "As will I. It's been a long day for us both.
She picked up her glass and swirled her wine, "Yes, the Gauls are good for something." She took a sip and put the wine down, "It's become my favorite so having a steady supply is good."

For the moment, she felt kind of special almost to the point of feeling like a little girl on the inside again. It was a good feeling. She listened as Frank told his story with her arms folded on the table in front of her. A light smile crossed her face when he offered residency.
"If it tells you anything, Mr. Atreides, everything I own is on my ship and my Houston condominium is on the market," she explained, "the only place I have to go right now IS Yuma. The only place Benjen has to go IS Yuma. I'll kind of need a job to take care of us."
She sat back a bit, "I don't know how my name crossed your leadership but someone knew of me enough, cared enough and realized my situation to make a recommendation. Right now, I am all the Bennie has and vice versa. Failure isn't option for us."

"As to leaving, once the contents of my hold are transferred, I can be ready. It's mostly clothing, medical equipment and my son's toys," she continued, "all I ask is that the medical equipment is handled carefully."

Frank listens to the doctor and he finish his glass.

"Doctor, I will take care of your goods been moved aboard Gaia-II." turns to his escort "Robert, please go to the station Quatermaster and arrange for the goods to be moved. Treat everything as it is a live plasma grenade. I want everything to be moved with magnetic pads and safely secure." the guards turns to move but Frank calls after him "Also remember, any cost is to be put on the Republican card. Also pay everything the doctor is having on her tab here on Bethelem." Frank turn his attention to the second guard while Robert is going to complete his task "Marc, you will be Doctor's escort. Please remember a child is involved. Holster that side weapon properly and remember, do not scare the kid with one of your stories."

Frank turns his attention toward the Doctor "Sorry ma'am. I had to assign them to some chores" he sees the look of surprise on her face "Do not be suprised that I speak on first name basis with the AIT. We used to serve together for a while,in the 7th Division, but after my service time was over,I choose to be assist fhe Government with the maze of paperwork that hits them daily." Frank is looking at Marc as he was smilling, takes a sip and he continue " You will find that Sirian reports about us are a bit wrong. We care for each of our citizens and residents. We remember each one that fallen and also those that are alive. By the Gods, we would not be here now without their sacrifice."

"We will take care of you, Ma'am. Do not worry. As for your ship, we have a pair of extra pilots to take your freighter to Coronado."
Frank stops for a moment and put's his hand at his ear,he listens and nods

"Again appologies, that was Robert. We can have all your possesions aboard the Gaia-II within the hour. If you would please get Bennie, may I call him that? ready, we may depart shortly. Our Ship Captain is looking forward to see you."

RE: The Becoming Of A Crayterian - Doreen - 07-24-2017

She was nervous, at least, a little anyway. Everything was happening fast....faster than what she imagined. Nerves caught her momentarily as she took a deep breath to counter some welling in her eyes. She feared of another incident like in Omega 41 many years before.
She transferred some information to him from her datapad, "Dock two is where my ship is and here are the lock and access codes."
She then softly smiled, "Ben, Bennie, Benjen, any of those are fine to him. He's been through a lot. He's quiet and probably will stay close to me for awhile. As I said, I'm all he has."

She finished her wine and stood up. She fixed her long, red hair just a bit over her shoulders and grabbed her purse. "I need to go get Ben." Taking about three steps, she stopped and turned back around only to take a step back to Frank. "Thank you," she said softly through a kind smile, "Thank you for your patience and help. I only ask for continued patience. I'll meet you at the Gaia-II in about twenty minutes."

She found Benjen playing with the youngster that he had met. When he saw her, he jumped up, ran to her and hugged her. "Mommy!" he yelled.
"Hi, Sweety," she said to him smiling as she held him tight.
"Look, Mom!" He was pointing to the mess of toys and his new friend. "We've been having fun here. Can we stay just a little longer?"
She couldn't say no and let him play another ten or so minutes. As they did, she spoke to the mother of the other child. The mother thanked her for her help and her son's companionship.
"Rodek has friends on station but someone new is a plus to him," she said.
"Benjen doesn't have many friends," replied Doreen, "Nor do I for that matter."
"Well you can consider me one," the mother replied, "And anytime you're on this station, we will be here."
Doreen only smiled her approval.

"Ben, Honey," she said, "We have to go."
Benjen was bummed. He wanted to stay but knew that he couldn't. He could only pitifully walk up to his mother.
"Mommy, can we come back some time? Please?" he asked
She just smiled, "I promise."
Ben smiled back and hugged her.
"Come on, Sweety, it's time to go."
Together, they walked to where the Gaia-II was docked.

Bridge, Gaia-II, Bethlehem Station Bays, Pennsylvania

"I am just curious how she is going to help the Republic" - the pilot ended, before switching comms. to speak with the station staff.
Kara didn't say anything right away, she waited for the entire docking procedure to finish. Then, after putting down her data-pad and calling it a job well done for everyone, she turned to the pilot - "It's not about how she can help us, at the moment, Clyde. It's about how we can help her. Our job is to get her to Yuma in maximum comfort, not to start speculating." - she ended that last phrase with a slight grin, then continued while giggling "It's not like we don't fly the Ministers around all the time... so you know we get the best info before it even hits the news."

As the pilot noded with a snicker of his own, the ship's captain left the bridge quietly.

Guest Hall, Gaia-II, Bethlehem Station Bays, Pennsylvania

After getting changed in a semi-formal red outfit, sporting a jacket with the Phoenix logo on one side and the Intersun logo on the other, Kara sat calmly on a chair in the Guest Hall and clicked the comm. ear-piece she had - "Mister Atreides, everything is a go here. Luggage is safely strapped in the hold and living quarters are ready. Tap my comms. when you're about to embark."

As soon as the guests would enter, she'd sit up and to greet them.

RE: The Becoming Of A Crayterian - Atreides2 - 07-24-2017

Frank is waiting near the docking hatch of Gaia-II. He see Doctor Doreen coming and her son, followed closely by their escort.

"Welcome Doctor to GAIA-II. From now you are entering on Crayterian soil. All your luggage is safe in our cargo hold and we rechecked the cabins allocated for you one last time. We wanted to make sure you and Benjen have everything."

He gets on the same level and salute Benjen " Welcome Sir, to the Crayterian Vessel Gaia-II. We have some surprises for you, some pads with some holographic novels, some toys and a special holographic interactive AI to keep you occupied. " He gets up and looks at Doreen "Ship captain invited both of you in the lounge to enjoy the trip and the ship facilities."

He puts his hand on his ear and activated the ear comm.

"Captain, they are here. We are ready to embark."

RE: The Becoming Of A Crayterian - Doreen - 07-24-2017

She smiled her approval to Frank. "Thank you. I will probably start the trip getting some sleep. I would like to know though, how soon do you plan to have the conference you have mentioned upon our arrival? It just helps my planning and the like."
With Benjen sticking close to his mother, she looked around at the ship she was now on. It was a good deal larger than her own and appeared more comfortable for a long trip.
"If the captain doesn't take offense, I could use some rest and a chance to freshen up a bit before we meet," she inquired.

For the moment, she followed Frank.
