I wish this communique came under better circumstances. My name is Elton McKenna, Secretary of Foreign Affairs for the Commonwealth of House Liberty. The Commonwealth wishes to extend its condolences to any displaced families and loss of life incurred during the hijacking of Freeport Two. It was a very important base in the region, and though it may seem too early to do anything other than mourn, as you no doubt understand there are other parties with a vested interest in the region.

The Zoners have traditionally fled House rule, being pushed further and further into the frontier to escape encroaching imperialism and regulations. With Freeport Two's fall, a small bastion for that sovereignty is now at stake. With the Republic on one side and Rheinland on the other, there is little doubt that a taskforce will soon be sent to oust the growing outlaw presence in the system.

The question, of course, is what happens after that. Our best analysts all agree that it is highly unlikely that whichever party moves in to secure the area is unlikely to simply up and leave. Though the Bering system offers little in the way of material value, it's doubtful that neither the Republic nor Rheinland will pass up an opportunity to expand their borders, most likely using the recent tragedy as an opportunity to seize the station for themselves in the name of securing the sector.

What the Commonwealth is offering is the deployment of a Legion taskforce to assist in securing the base and put it back into the hands of the Zoners. We're not interested in credits, technology, or territory. Our only vested interest in Bering currently is curbing the growth of piracy, especially the Unioner movement which has no doubt benefited greatly from - and likely helped to incite - the recent takeover.

I believe Pope Wingspan has seen the Legion's vessels in action recently. If you require assurance from within, I suggest you turn to him. We'll keep this channel open on a secure frequency and await your response, whatever it may be.

I take a couple of days off on my vacation ranch here on Erie and read this. I seem to remember something similar that happened in this system. Zoners settled it, received help against pirate elements only to lose outright control of the system to the Liberty government so please, color me skeptical. While I respect Liberty law and have had overall good relations with them, house leadership, including Liberty, has had a poor record and borderworld Freeports. Bretonia harasses and tries at times to claim Freeport 1 in Omega 3, Kusari and Gallia try dictating policy to Freeport 6 in Tau 29 and I personally had to negotiate with Liberty once before to stop an embargo that was starving out the inhabitants of Freeport 2 in Bering. So as you can see, there is a long list of issues that many a Zoner would be skeptical on this matter.

Now why would I, John Holliday, care so much being that I seldom travel to Bering? Well, the reasons above for all Zoners and the fact that I have medical personnel there. You can bet that I'll be monitoring this situation very closely to see if you keep your word on Zoner autonomy in the system.

There is no word to keep unless you accept the offer we've extended, Mister Holliday. The Commonwealth has no intention of deploying its warships unless you're interested in our assistance. As for trust, I can cite quite a few instances where the Commonwealth and the Legion have crossed paths with the Zoners and assisted them in retaining their autonomy. Granted, these were all informal encounters, but I would like to remind the Legion jumped two of it's warships into Omicron Delta recently to assist in the defense of Freeport Eleven against a massive Nomad attack. Omicron Delta is light years from home, and our power projection in the region is effectively zero. It was done, to be frank, because it was the right thing to do.

Ultimately this isn't a matter I can't ask you or expect you to trust any government on, and I am glad to see that the skepticism toward House imperialism is alive and well within the Zoners. I can tell you what the Commonwealth is, of course. I can tell you that we are a Libertarian-Socialist state whose ideals are centered around true freedom and self governance. I can tell you that our interests in the Bering system are limited to curbing the Unioner movement and maintaining a buffer between the Republic and Rheinland. I can tell you that whether or not we move our forces in, the Republic or Rheinland will do so themselves without your permission. But words don't mean anything unless supported by actions, and we will not take any actions without your consent.

It's a catch 22, Mister Holliday. I promise you that by moving our forces in to the region you will not be jeopardizing Zoner lives or autonomy in the region, but I understand that promises from a government representative are a dime a dozen to you. I only hope that the Republic and Rheinland don't move - and they will move - before a decision is reached.

I wish that there were better terms in which to talk to you, but forgive me if such is not the case.

In acting upon my role as Leader of Eastern Freeports within the Confederation, I approve of your offering of a Task force to assist in securing the station. My personal security detail is only that of twenty souls, but none with major combat experience. If you were able to send a small squad to assist in removing those who would ruin our peaceful way of life, I would be in your debt. Small, Mister McKenna. I've already contacted those in the Liberty Government to halt traffic from Texas to Bering, the last thing we both need is to see a Commonwealth Dreadnaught in orbit over Freeport Two. And I know that I have little faith that they wont send people to see what's going on in Bering.

We have a possible Seventy-Two hour window. That should be more than enough.

Pope Wingspan, I'm sure you remember our meeting at Freeport Eleven. I'll be overseeing the Legion's operations in the Bering system from this point forward and using this comm channel to coordinate with you on the matter.

While I understand your wishes to avoid a protracted siege and take the station from within, we must also be prepared for the possibility that this plan will fail. With that in mind I am dispatching three warships - The battleship Leviathan and her escort cruisers Invictus and Zenith to the Bering system. They'll arrive via the Hudson-Bering jump corridor and proceed to the outskirts of the system, far away from prying eyes unless the situation deteriorates to the point that their intervention is necessary. They are capable of operating in deep space for up to a month before resupply, so in the event of a full blockade of the system they'll be able to run silent until the storm blows over.

Once they arrive in the system, we'll dispatch several transports with spoofed Rogue transponders carrying Legionnaire fireteams, which will link up with your own men and attempt to secure the station. I trust you'll provide us with full schematics of the Freeport as well as its last known security codes for defense systems and blast doors. Should a boarding party fail, however, I'm sure we both know that the only way in after that will be through brute force and NEMP warheads. Let us hope it does not come to that.

Its good to see you again Colonel Sahega, but things have taken a very steep turn as of late in an action I did not foresee. I received reports that the 5th Fleet of Liberty has moved into Bering, begun a blockade of Freeport Two, and has conducted acts that have jeopardized our mission in the system. Therefore I must ask that the operation be placed on hold and an observation vessel be sent from the Legion as an independent observer into claims of Libertonian ships opening fire on transports carrying needed goods and people from the station.

We cannot promote an action which may cause a greater danger from occurring no matter how little the chance.

Just a report. I evacuated the remaining Zoners from Freeport 2 earlier today. I went to get my staff but the remaining Zoners wanted out as well. I didn't get a cam shot of it but there was an arms dealer there. What he was selling or if he was at all is unknown to me.
Brettonias, IF the Zoners get back FP2 then the med staff will return. I'm no match for anyone in a ship. Pistols in hands on the ground? There's still not a man I can't take.
Sec. McKenna, I'll be watching. You already know how I feel and I haven't changed my opinion.
