Background: Irene was born January 20th, 785 A.S to Jennifer and Warren Mitchell on Planet Manhattan. Her father was a retired Liberty Navy Admiral turned businessman and her mother was a doctor. As the daughter of wealthy parents, her upbringing was sheltered. However, unlike most kids, she hated being outside, preferring the relative calm of the indoors. From elementary school to her senior year in high school, she distanced herself from most of her classmates, keeping to only a few close friends. In 803 A.S she graduated at the top of her class. Throughout her schooling, she had developed a habit of thinking things through tactically, this caught the attention of her father, and he sent in an application to the West Point Military Academy for her. She was accepted. When she found this out, she was infuriated, but grateful nonetheless. She was on the road to a distinguished and long military career.
At West Point, she showed a passion for music (specifically old earth Jazz from the 1940s), the sciences and history. She quickly forged new friendships, but again stayed to a few close friends, however she did not distance herself from the rest of her classmates. She was well liked by her teachers, who after graduating from West Point would prove invaluable to her. Four years later, in 807 A.S, she graduated and was commissioned as an Ensign.
As an ensign, she was given the choice of being a pilot or serving aboard starships. She opted for the fleet end of things and was assigned to the Gunboat LNS Valiant. The Valiant was a newly commissioned Liberty Gunboat, redesigned to be more heavily armed in the wake of the recent nomad war. She served aboard the Valiant for three years, served with distinction in multiple combat engagements and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
As of her promotion to Lieutenant, she was assigned to the Battlecruiser LNS Majestic. Aboard the majestic, she served for another three years. Again while aboard she served in many combat engagements, and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander for her actions as the XO of the Majestic.
As a Lieutenant Commander, she was finally given a command of her own, the Gunboat LNS Prosecutor. Aboard the Prosecutor, she met Lieutenant Richard Marks, her XO. Richard would later serve with her again, aboard the new LNS Fenrir. As CO of the Prosecutor, Irene became well known to Liberty and her enemies. From 813 A.S to 818 A.S she served as the commander of the Prosecutor. In 818 A.S, she was promoted to the rank of Captain (she was promoted to commander in 815 A.S). In preparation for a possible war with Rheinland, she was given command of the newly built Battlecruiser LNS Fenrir. Upon being given the command of the Fenrir, the admiralty allowed her to hand-pick her crew. Many of them were people she had served with aboard the Majestic, Prosecutor and Valiant. For her XO, she selected none other than her XO onboard the Prosecutor, now Lt. Commander Richard Marks. Soon, the Fenrir was assigned to CF 73 along with her sister ship the LNS Avalon
