Operation: Banjou - Gas Miners Guild - 11-08-2017

Operation: Banjou is the next step in securing Guild dominance in the Sigma systems and ensuring its prosperity for years to come.

Planet Saigon, Sigma-21

Operation Briefing

The pristine colours of an untapped environment make the Sigma-21 system of utmost importance to the Gas Miners Guild.

Of particular significance is the uninhabited Planet Saigon, located between sectors 4 and 5 D and first charted by The Guild shortly after the Sigma Ion Storm of 823 A.S.

Basic preliminary scans indicate the planet possesses essentially habitable conditions as it is, with the potential for drastic improvement with a relatively minor terraforming effort, the likes of which would be dwarfed by the current ongoing efforts with Planet Miura. The exact atmospheric and mineral conditions of the planet must be determined with the use of more powerful sensory equipment, with The Guild's T-520-GS Bishamon gunships possessing more than enough processing power to achieve this.

It is certain that a landgrab of Planet Saigon must occur with great haste in order to secure the planet and the Sigma-21 system.

Battleship Daishouri

Basic Plan

The Battleship Daishouri has already been redeployed from Sigma-59 to a nebula containing asteroids in Sigma-21 which is located a short cruise from the planet. This will act as a covert and secure forward operating base in the system from which reconnaissance and survey expeditions will launch. Although Saigon is top priority, the rest of the system must also be properly explored and documented.

Security and secrecy is key, to avoid provoking similar attempts in the system from any prying eyes that may be attempting to further their own interests in what is rightly Guild space. Interlopers who intend to threaten the sovereignty and independence of the Gas Miners Guild will not be tolerated. It may be prudent to collaborate with friendly forces in the system, an avenue which will be explored internally before making any external contact on the matter.

Execution

Missions will be organised to fully investigate all planetary bodies and zones of interest in the system, as well as chart any wormholes detected. Speed and efficiency will be key when carrying out these tasks in order to minimise the risk of detection and tipping The Guild's hand. Any overtly hostile ships encountered, such as Corsair vessels, should be swiftly terminated as and when possible. The potent diagnostic equipment of Bishamon gunships will be key to collecting the required data, aided by the speed all GMG ships are designed with in mind. Generous fighter escorts will be assigned to these valuable and sensitive ships at all times in order to ensure the safety of the vessels themselves and their sensor telemetry, in particular utilising newly developed T-493-VHF Benzaiten very heavy fighters.

When further information has been acquired, it may then be deemed prudent to establish either a planetside or orbital facility in order to oversee the colonisation of Saigon. In the interests of hastening these projects, modular fabrications may be manufactured beforehand and moved into place in order to cut down the time required to have any such constructs quickly operational and defended.

The appropriate mobilisations will now be ordered and confirmed. This channel will be further updated as the project progresses.

A prelimary tour of the system has been undertaken.

Moon, Saigon Orbit

This small moon orbits Planet Saigon. Upon first examination, it appears to possess a barren landscape of little resource value. However, this small rock may be of strategic importance in any theoretical defence of the planet and due any gravitational or atmospheric effects it may have on Saigon.

Nebula

This white nebula obscures the Battleship Daishouri, acting as the perfect cover from which to base Guild operations in the system. It also houses a small asteroid field which itself seems to be of some mineral wealth. A prospecting operation will be undertaken to determine the exact value of the field and whether it is of any worth to begin exploitation of any available resources.

Gas Giant

Located across the system and on the other side of the binary stars from Planet Saigon, this large gas giant is adorned by a collection of large rings of dust, presumably drawn into the planet's gravity well from the asteroid belt in the centre of the system. Its position deep within the Sigmas may make the Crow Nebula its source, which in turn may make the planet a source of precious helium-3.

Moon, Gas Giant Orbit

The second of the two moons in Sigma-21, this satellite orbits its parent Gas Giant. Although likely of less importance than Saigon's moon, an examination is still planned in the interests of thoroughly surveying the system. Despite its unremarkable appearance, the moon may yet be found to hold secrets of importance.

Crow Nebula

A foreboding dark outcropping of the Crow Nebula that lies a short cruise from Planet Saigon. The nebula may be a navigational hazard, but The Guild is more than adept at traversing such terrain so shall investigate nonetheless. The Sigma-15 jumphole has already been charted and the field will be tested to determine if it holds any valuable gases for collection.

Asteroid Belt

The binary star system has caught in its gravity well and condensed a dust field that has formed an accretion disc and some larger asteroids in its midst. Although this belt is unlikely to be of much importance, it perhaps may be possible to be utilised by ships attempting to pass through the centre of Sigma-21 undetected. Whether the field is dense enough to possess scanner obfuscating properties is as yet unknown.

Tonkin Cloud

Several asteroids housed within the Tonkin Ice Field have been subject to detailed scans from the advanced avionics on board a T-520-GS Bishamon Gunship.

3D laser imaging and the resulting pings from high frequency electromagnetic waves have determined that this field is notably wealthy in niobium reserves. This may serve to be highly beneficial in the advancement of Project Kikou, however, such mining operations are not the current expertise of The Guild. In addition, given the currently uncertain status of the Sigma-21 system, local extraction operations are not a priority. Should Guild superiority be truly established in the area, options to further exploit this field may be explored.

Annamese Dust Field

The Annamese Dust Field encircles Sigma-21's twin suns and is home to a jumphole to the Honshu system.

Standard fighter scanners on board the T-493-VHF Benzaiten operate at approximately 88% efficiency in the field. While having a small effect on the efficacy of regular scanners, the field's low density means it makes little difference to the chance of detecting ships within it. Stronger scanning equipment such as that on board Bishamon gunships will likely be hindered even less. Aside from the Honshu jumphole, the field has little to no tactical significance and no apparent mineral resources to be exploited.

The jumphole here is likely the connection used by the Kusari Naval Forces to violate Guild sovereignty.

Annamese Dust Field

Within the Annemese Dust Field lies the wreckage of several ships of Rheinland origin. All of the disabled ships are clearly outdated models, particularly the Valkyrie very heavy fighters. Of more interest are the derelict pieces of a Rheinland cruiser model that may be entirely salvageable and of great use to Project: Kikou.
