To the attention of the Seventy Second,
A scout of the Council has recently had an unfortunate encounter with one of your own. You will find the logs attached. The Council inquires as to an explanation for this behaviour and notes that failure to comply will see your reputation to Malta worsened.
[13.01.2018 00:18:51] NC-Pantelleria: Oh.
[13.01.2018 00:18:56] NC-Pantelleria: Now I understand.
[13.01.2018 00:18:58] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Council..
[13.01.2018 00:19:11] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Hola, 'amigo'..
[13.01.2018 00:19:13] LH~Orange.Dream: I am well aware of it. But I cannot obey them, as they are not currently in power.
[13.01.2018 00:19:16] NC-Pantelleria: Seventysecond.
[13.01.2018 00:19:28] LH~Orange.Dream: Ah, thank you for swift arrival, mister Pantelleria.
[13.01.2018 00:19:30] NC-Pantelleria: I heard we have a problem here?
[13.01.2018 00:19:48] LH~Orange.Dream: Indeed. Captain of this vessel is not allowing me to pass.
[13.01.2018 00:20:05] NC-Pantelleria: Now this is very likely just a misunderstanding.
[13.01.2018 00:20:12] LH~Orange.Dream: It seems, that there's a law not allowing me to export Cardamine, unless it's for personal uses, thus being 50 units max.
[13.01.2018 00:20:14] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Do explain, then.
[13.01.2018 00:20:24] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Si.
[13.01.2018 00:20:46] LH~Orange.Dream: As I am informed, there is not such laws, and there never was.
[13.01.2018 00:21:15] LH~Orange.Dream: Us, as your most trusted allies are free to export Cardamine as we also consume and require it.
[13.01.2018 00:21:44] NC-Pantelleria: While we can all agree that upholding the laws is always a good thing, my friends, I believe we can allow this transport of-
[13.01.2018 00:21:53] NC-Pantelleria: our valuable allies to pass to spread the orange dream.
[13.01.2018 00:22:05] NC-Pantelleria: Don't you agree?
[13.01.2018 00:22:21] LH~Orange.Dream: I do hope you're not expecting us to personally come to Malta daily to pick up our daily dosage.
[13.01.2018 00:22:39] NC-Pantelleria: That would be a horrible traffic problem.
[13.01.2018 00:22:46] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Allowing such a load to pass the Maltese border would be an afront to the Codex.
[13.01.2018 00:22:52] LH~Orange.Dream: We're all well aware of side effects not taking Cardamine, even.
[13.01.2018 00:23:09] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Alongside, it would be a detriment to the human race if such a large load was kept unchecked.
[13.01.2018 00:23:12] NC-Pantelleria: May I ask who is captaining the Santa Maria?
[13.01.2018 00:23:31] Death: (C~Varthrug.Xugor was put out of action by UN|Emden (Gun).
[13.01.2018 00:23:38] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Colonel Hector Valdez, Maltese Armed Forces.
[13.01.2018 00:23:52] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Might I ask whom 'you' are?
[13.01.2018 00:24:04] LH~Orange.Dream: Unchecked? It is well secured and will be exported to our people. Your allies!
[13.01.2018 00:24:28] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Capitan, with all due respect, you stated Rochester, which is a known hub of commodity export.
[13.01.2018 00:24:52] NC-Pantelleria: A honor, Captain Valdez. I am Pantelleria of the National Council. I have escorted this Lane Hacker transport not even two-
[13.01.2018 00:24:58] NC-Pantelleria: hours ago into Liberty and back out.
[13.01.2018 00:25:10] LH~Orange.Dream: It is a hub Hackers use to distribute the cargo evenly to Lane Hackers and Rogues. The inter-Liberty runs start from that point
[13.01.2018 00:25:14] Death: UN|Emden was put out of action by a hostile vessel.
[13.01.2018 00:25:31] NC-Pantelleria: This is a man of good intentions. Trust me. He cares for the cardamine-consumers in Liberty and surrounding systems.
[13.01.2018 00:26:00] LH~Orange.Dream: If that seems to be the problem, I will be taking this cargo to Leiden. Thus, it will be only used for our cause.
[13.01.2018 00:26:36] Death: Lok'Tur suffered a self-inflicted catastrophic decompression.
[13.01.2018 00:27:18] NC-Pantelleria: Captain?
[13.01.2018 00:27:21] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The Republic does not operate within Liberty, and thus would not be at.. 'liberty' to monitor it's distribution.
[13.01.2018 00:27:42] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Alongside that, the Codex further, adamently maintains that such a load leaving Maltese space is unlawful.
[13.01.2018 00:27:47] LH~Orange.Dream: Do you not trust your ally? That is a serious problem.
[13.01.2018 00:27:50] NC-Pantelleria: This is why we have full trust in our allies, the Lane Hackers, to handle this.
[13.01.2018 00:28:18] NC-Pantelleria: I doubt the Lane Hacker Professorship would allow shenanigans to be done at the distribution of Cardamine.
[13.01.2018 00:28:23] NC-Pantelleria: They value our trades.
[13.01.2018 00:28:27] LH~Orange.Dream: We are a members of the Orange Treaty after all. Closest allies. It is sad to hear you do not trust us with...
[13.01.2018 00:28:30] NC-Pantelleria: They value the orange dream.
[13.01.2018 00:28:43] LH~Orange.Dream: Distribution of Cardamine. Which we value highly, as we too are users.
[13.01.2018 00:28:49] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The 'Orange Dream' is not supported by the Republic, I'm afraid.
[13.01.2018 00:29:46] NC-Pantelleria: *An audible sigh* I believe this is something we need to discuss with out superiors.
[13.01.2018 00:30:06] NC-Pantelleria: I would like to ask you to not interfere with this Lane Hacker Transport for the time being.
[13.01.2018 00:30:26] LH~Orange.Dream: I would be most grateful.
[13.01.2018 00:30:49] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Do understand that I am bound by the Codex to uphold it's values and guidelines.
[13.01.2018 00:30:58] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Regardless of the affiliation of the offender.
[13.01.2018 00:31:19] NC-Pantelleria: Your integrity is remarkable, Captain.
[13.01.2018 00:31:19] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Such is the way of 'equal-treatment'.
[13.01.2018 00:31:54] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Capitan, I'm afraid my original request is still in effect.
[13.01.2018 00:32:03] NC-Pantelleria: I do have to think of the people in Liberty that are waiting to get their hands on the next dose of Cardamine.
[13.01.2018 00:32:18] NC-Pantelleria: They rely on this transport.
[13.01.2018 00:32:31] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: They can rely on another one.
[13.01.2018 00:32:42] LH~Orange.Dream: I apologies, mister, but the Lane Hackers still treat National Council as a lawful force within the Maltese.
[13.01.2018 00:32:53] NC-Pantelleria: They won't send another if you show this kind of burocratic stubbornness.
[13.01.2018 00:32:57] LH~Orange.Dream: Thus, I will listen what he orders me, not you.
[13.01.2018 00:33:11] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Commendable, Capitan.
[13.01.2018 00:33:21] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: But ultimately foolish.
[13.01.2018 00:33:28] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The request still stands.
[13.01.2018 00:33:29] LH~Orange.Dream: If he tells me to obey your commands, I will do so. But that is your matter to settle.
[13.01.2018 00:33:40] LH~Orange.Dream: Untill then, I will stay here.
[13.01.2018 00:34:36] NC-Pantelleria: I guess I'll need to contact my superiors about this case.
[13.01.2018 00:34:43] NC-Pantelleria: Please have a moment of patience.
[13.01.2018 00:34:44] Changing screen mode=windowed
[13.01.2018 00:35:06] LH~Orange.Dream: Roger. I'l stay put.
[13.01.2018 00:35:16] Rules Tip: A single player running two or more instances of Freelancer for trading or mining purposes is against server rules and is regarded as cheating.
[13.01.2018 00:35:17] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Such patience grows thin.
[13.01.2018 00:36:01] Changing screen mode=full
[13.01.2018 00:36:44] LH~Orange.Dream: I believe you need to have a large amount of patience for this kind of matters.
[13.01.2018 00:37:11] NC-Pantelleria: Captain Valdez, you are hereby ordered to not interfere. If you have complaints with this, file one formally for the National
[13.01.2018 00:37:12] LH~Orange.Dream: I am sure we will be able to sort this misunderstanding.
[13.01.2018 00:37:13] NC-Pantelleria: Council.
[13.01.2018 00:37:36] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: I'm afraid I do not take your orders, or any of the Council, under consideration, pilot.
[13.01.2018 00:38:05] NC-Pantelleria: What is the reason for this?
[13.01.2018 00:38:31] NC-Pantelleria: What harm do you see in this transport of cardamine?
[13.01.2018 00:39:26] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Curiously, the Codex states in Section 4, subsection 3 that I am to disconcern myself with your orders.
[13.01.2018 00:39:53] NC-Pantelleria: I see. You do understand the implications of this, then?
[13.01.2018 00:40:07] NC-Pantelleria: Do you think the consequences of disobediance are worth this?
[13.01.2018 00:40:11] NC-Pantelleria: A transport of Cardamine?
[13.01.2018 00:40:14] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: It was taken under consideration when they drew it up.
[13.01.2018 00:40:15] NC-Pantelleria: To our allies?
[13.01.2018 00:40:55] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The Republic does not formally see the Lane Hackers as staunch allies.
[13.01.2018 00:41:05] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Therefore, they are not exempt from the Codex.
[13.01.2018 00:41:56] NC-Pantelleria: I would like to know why the Codex devalues the Lane Hackers, one of the most reliable forces to assist us.
[13.01.2018 00:42:50] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: With all due respect to your ally, the Republic sees them merely as another conduit of which to contaminate the houses.
[13.01.2018 00:43:19] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: More preferable than Rogues, but still a conduit.
[13.01.2018 00:45:04] NC-Pantelleria: So, what you are saying is
[13.01.2018 00:45:35] NC-Pantelleria: You will oppose the supply of cardamine-users that depend on this supply
[13.01.2018 00:45:45] NC-Pantelleria: for the sake of prevention of spread of the Orange Dream?
[13.01.2018 00:46:41] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The limit set by the Codex more than supplies the need for the estimated number of users projected in the colonies.
[13.01.2018 00:47:01] NC-Pantelleria: When have those numbers been set?
[13.01.2018 00:47:09] NC-Pantelleria: Or updated?
[13.01.2018 00:47:20] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Three weeks ago.
[13.01.2018 00:47:38] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Around when the Codex was completed.
[13.01.2018 00:48:13] NC-Pantelleria: I take it the Codex has no approval by the National Council?
[13.01.2018 00:48:35] [212th]MNS-Monty: hi Santa
[13.01.2018 00:48:40] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: We don't need the Council's approval. Your organization was considered corrupted and defunt upon inception.
[13.01.2018 00:49:06] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Well.. maybe not upon inception, but certainly around the time.
[13.01.2018 00:49:44] NC-Pantelleria: I take it there was no publication of the Codex?
[13.01.2018 00:50:10] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: There is, actually. It's posted on the Neural Net, though I doubt your command has taken any of it into consideration.
[13.01.2018 00:50:42] NC-Pantelleria: Well, you make it sound like National Council and your so called Republic are opposing each other.
[13.01.2018 00:50:46] [212th]MNS-Monty: hi again
[13.01.2018 00:50:46] NC-Pantelleria: Not that is something new.
[13.01.2018 00:50:54] [212th]MNS-Monty: whats going on here?
[13.01.2018 00:50:55] NC-Pantelleria: Good day, Captain of the Monty.
[13.01.2018 00:51:01] LH~Orange.Dream: Good evening, mister.
[13.01.2018 00:51:14] NC-Pantelleria: Burocratic differences. Nothing that requires the attention of a Dreadnought.
[13.01.2018 00:51:17] LH~Orange.Dream: A small dispute between these two gentlemen.
[13.01.2018 00:52:03] NC-Pantelleria: The Captain of the Santa Maria appears to not support the official government of Malta and their operational codes.
[13.01.2018 00:52:04] [212th]MNS-Monty: ok...
[13.01.2018 00:52:36] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The Council is anything but the 'official government'. Corrupted officials and infectees are not the face of Malta.
[13.01.2018 00:52:53] NC-Pantelleria: You seem to be wrong informed, Captain Valdez.
[13.01.2018 00:53:13] [212th]MNS-Monty: we suport Malta... don't worry
[13.01.2018 00:53:18] NC-Pantelleria: The National Council is, evidentally, free of any infected forces.
[13.01.2018 00:53:28] NC-Pantelleria: We even got rid of Enma Loyola.
[13.01.2018 00:53:59] NC-Pantelleria: I believe, good Captain, you are merely misinformed about the National Council.
[13.01.2018 00:54:00] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Loyola.. a stepping stone, but far from the end to evil within Malta's body.
[13.01.2018 00:54:20] NC-Pantelleria: Do you have any evidence on corruption or infection within the ruling body?
[13.01.2018 00:54:32] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: On hand? No.
[13.01.2018 00:54:33] Changing screen mode=windowed
[13.01.2018 00:54:36] Changing screen mode=full
[13.01.2018 00:54:37] [212th]MNS-Monty: // *drink*
[13.01.2018 00:54:45] NC-Pantelleria: Well, that would be too easy.
[13.01.2018 00:55:18] NC-Pantelleria: If you actually do have evidence or at least a foundation for suspicion, Captain, you should share it.
[13.01.2018 00:55:33] Rules Tip: This is a roleplay server, so keep your ship's name in line with the setting. Do not use references to pop-culture such as memes or distasteful subjects.
[13.01.2018 00:55:50] NC-Pantelleria: The main goal of the new National Council was to eliminate the threat of infected maltese within the government.
[13.01.2018 00:55:55] NC-Pantelleria: And in general, obviously.
[13.01.2018 00:56:14] NC-Pantelleria: You see, even our allies wouldn't approve to cooperate with infected people.
[13.01.2018 00:56:35] NC-Pantelleria: The Lane Hackers have proven to be very effective at fighting the threat of the Nomads.
[13.01.2018 00:56:36] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: Infection is but only half the issue. Corruption still stands.
[13.01.2018 00:56:55] LH~Orange.Dream: We would not, indeed.
[13.01.2018 00:57:11] NC-Pantelleria: Captain Valdez, I believe you are a good man of good intentions. Really.
[13.01.2018 00:57:25] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: I appreciate the words, pilot.
[13.01.2018 00:57:25] NC-Pantelleria: But this isn't leading anywhere, right?
[13.01.2018 00:57:50] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: IT is merely leading into an argument regarding views and opinions.
[13.01.2018 00:57:57] NC-Pantelleria: There are people waiting for this load of Cardamine. It needs to reach its destination.
[13.01.2018 00:58:00] NC-Pantelleria: They need it.
[13.01.2018 00:58:13] LH~Orange.Dream: Yet, it does not settle the matter concerning me, mister.
[13.01.2018 00:58:20] LH~Orange.Dream: I am still awaiting on the resolve.
[13.01.2018 00:58:45] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: As I've said, the Codex is moderated for the proper limit. Fifty units is more than enough.
[13.01.2018 00:59:13] LH~Orange.Dream: For a whole organisation? Tell me, how was that number calculated?
[13.01.2018 00:59:16] NC-Pantelleria: For what? That's what a small station might needs.
[13.01.2018 00:59:24] NC-Pantelleria: There are millions of cardamine users out there.
[13.01.2018 00:59:37] LH~Orange.Dream: This load is not even required need for Mactan. Not to mention several other stations, and Rogue users.
[13.01.2018 01:00:00] LH~Orange.Dream: Liberty has far more users than you think, mister.
[13.01.2018 01:00:11] LH~Orange.Dream: We depend on constant supply.
[13.01.2018 01:00:14] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: It has far more users than is needed.
[13.01.2018 01:00:32] NC-Pantelleria: I believe that is not to us to decide, Captain.
[13.01.2018 01:00:46] LH~Orange.Dream: Indeed.
[13.01.2018 01:00:53] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: It is still a violation of the Codex. My request stands firm.
[13.01.2018 01:01:04] NC-Pantelleria: We can't just have all those people make use of Cardamine and suddenly stop supplying them.
[13.01.2018 01:01:05] Changing screen mode=windowed
[13.01.2018 01:01:19] Changing screen mode=full
[13.01.2018 01:01:37] LH~Orange.Dream: I will repeat myself, I can only obey orders coming from the representative of the Council itself.
[13.01.2018 01:01:37] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: It's called 'stabiline'. give it to the poor ones who were forced into using Cardamine.
[13.01.2018 01:01:58] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: For the ones who genuinely need it, fifty units is more than enough.
[13.01.2018 01:02:02] NC-Pantelleria: Stabiline is still to be researched, Catpain.
[13.01.2018 01:02:07] LH~Orange.Dream: Apologies, mister, but you seem to have no concept of who the Hackers are.
[13.01.2018 01:02:17] LH~Orange.Dream: We were not forced into using. We chose to.
[13.01.2018 01:02:31] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: I'm not speaking of your group, capitan.
[13.01.2018 01:02:38] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: I'm aware of your group's choice.
[13.01.2018 01:02:53] LH~Orange.Dream: Will you try to push whole faction into usage of Stabiline?
[13.01.2018 01:03:03] LH~Orange.Dream: I am sure that will not end good, not for you, atleast.
[13.01.2018 01:03:21] NC-Pantelleria: No need to threaten, please.
[13.01.2018 01:03:38] LH~Orange.Dream: Oh, it was not a threat, apologies if I was misunderstood.
[13.01.2018 01:03:43] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: I will not force any Lane Hacker to use stabiline. What you do with Cardamine is your business, and the Codex does not-
[13.01.2018 01:03:47] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: -forbid it.
[13.01.2018 01:03:57] LH~Orange.Dream: I was talking about the people. The addicts mind is quite violent when it lacks Cardamine.
[13.01.2018 01:04:05] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The Codex merely restricts the amount per ship.
[13.01.2018 01:04:37] LH~Orange.Dream: And how should we acquire Cardamine, then?
[13.01.2018 01:04:40] NC-Pantelleria: Is it possible to have the codex reviewed under the aspect of a more realistic number calculation?
[13.01.2018 01:05:03] 72nd|MNS-Santa.Maria: Valdez: The Codex /was/ reviewed under a realistic number calculation, pilot.
[13.01.2018 01:05:26] LH~Orange.Dream: Indeed, we could settle with that. 50 units is a mere amount for personal use. And there's millions of us.
[13.01.2018 01:05:26] NC-Pantelleria: With all respect, Captain, but I doubt it.

[13.01.2018 01:07:09] LH~Orange.Dream: Ah, indeed I do. It was an attempt to catch your attention. But still, there's thousands of Lane Hackers in existence...

Buenos dias.
Before I begin, I would like to state that I am not an active, participating member of the Seventy-second, whom we refer to as the 'Armed Forces'. My role is merely figurehead and head of state for the Republic of Malta, so mentioned by our captain aboard the Santa Maria. While the Fleet does not answer to me, their key leadership does, and to forego a diplomatic and/or military incident, I'll step in his place as a more.. 'level-headed' voice.
I want to apologize for Colonel Valdez's actions and statements. In many ways he represents the Republic, but there are in fact discrepancies within his judgement that he will be notified about. Still, there are items that the National Council should be informed upon from a less 'direct' standpoint.
Firstly, while I am well aware the Council maintains it's own set of 'laws and regulations', the Republic does as well, and therefore adheres to those of the Codex instead of the Council. This matter was in fact summoned up, and agreed upon, by both myself and Senor Santiago, the lead figurehead of the Armed Forces. While the Codex itself is up to each pilot's depiction, it does outline the intent fairly well, and Colonel Valdez was merely adhering to the direct statement of the Codex in it's entirety, a sign of integrity that few these days seem to strive to.
Secondly, and what I believe you are most interested in, is the Republic's view on the 'National Council', or rather lack thereof. On almost every occasion, your group is eyed with the same disdain that any enemy of Malta is viewed with, for almost all of the same reasons. It was agreed upon that corruption and infestation have infiltrated the Council's ranks through your mergers with the prior tyrants of the homeworld, most notable being the Crimson Cross, an enemy the Fleet, and by extension the Republic, have fought with a grueling hatred. As the Council has more-or-less accepted these remnants of failed governance into their fold, and thus their imperfections, the same corruption and infestation that plagued them now plagues the Council.
There was no attempt at diplomatic relations as the Fleet Admiral was convinced that cooperating with the Council would only spell an end to the efforts we'd worked so hard for. We'd no idea how far the infestation had gone, and thus the eye of corruption was extended to the entirety of the Council.
And thirdly, the view of the 'Orange Dream'. While it is true that the Republic is of Maltese origin flying Maltese flags and ships, all equipped with Maltese arms, the Nacion is far a solely Maltese state. As a true Republic, men and women from across the colonies have accepted their place within our society, and as such the Republic has adapted to the needs of the people that comprise our force. The Republic does not hold the same view on Cardamine as the Council seems to. There is no 'Orange Dream', but instead only a goal to understand the good that it can do, instead of simply introducing it to any and all we come across. The Republic follows this mentality to better the people of the homeworld, whether it be orthodox or not.
I believe that 'clarifies' what might be questioned here that Colonel Valdez did not already do for me. Perhaps once the Council finds a way to root out the 'evil' and corruption that controls it, then the Republic will work happily alongside for the betterment of the Maltese people. Otherwise, I can't speak for the Armed Forces aside from explaining the reasoning in a more 'politically friendly' manner.
Should the Council not be satisfied with this response, do feel free to contact Senorita Iltzmann, my secretary. She will relay it to myself.

RE: To: 72nd| || From: The National Council, Benito Contari - Foxglove - 01-15-2018
It is always a marvel to see righteous men and women with little to no self-awareness.
The Council has since its inception been about integration rather than dividing the Nation. We are well aware of the state of our culture and we strife to preserve it without fighting it. You disrespect the Code of Interstellar Laws, disregarding the fact that it has been established not solely to further the National Council but to create a modicum of stability, a kernel of consent that the majority of Maltese can agree upon. Cardamine is a major part of that, as you may know. Opposing its export would mean a major decrease in wealth and lead to poverty, famine, and ultimately the death of the Maltese people. I hope you are aware that there is no stopping the Cardamine trade without being willing to eradicate an entire people, Signora. I wonder how you bring this into accord with your 'democratic' and 'egalitarian' principles. Evil tongues might assume that you are being played by the non-Maltese elements within your ranks to willingly bring about the reduction of the Nation to one of beggars. Surely, you are too smart for that, however.
In any case, the Council has no intention of letting this incident slip. I will now connect the Lane Hacker in question into this communication, and then you will listen to him and do whatever it is he wants as compensation for the obstruction of the Cardamine trade.

Senor Contari,
Thank you for extending this channel to The Lane Hackers. I wish to compliment the way in which your operative handled the incident. It was truly professional work in a very difficult position. Please send my gratitude to your fine pilot.
Senorita Zerda,
I am known by the alias Nicole Hunter and I am presiding over the Professorship of The Lane Hackers. It is a great pleasure to meet you, despite the unfortunate circumstances that led to this communique. Let me start by assuring you that I am genuinely interested in an amicable resolution of the incident. For this reason allow me to present you my personal thoughts on this matter. For over 5 years now I am struggling to help our Maltese allies to unify and peacefully resolve their differences. I have devoted a lot of resources, energy and time to normalize relations between Malta and number of its allies after the civil war. It is my personal commitment to do whatever it takes to prevent another Maltese civil war if it is only possible. I believe it is important for you to understand that my intentions are genuine. The best interest of Malta is also the best interest of The Lane Hackers.
As you surely know first hand Malta society is divided between the two extremes. One extreme is devoted to the Nomad interests and ultimately betrayed the human kind in favor of the alien species. I am obviously referring to organizations such as The Commune, The Oracles, bygone Crimson Cross or 101st under Casta family reign, who harbor known infectees and openly work for the alien agenda. Another extreme is represented by idealists such as yourself. There is, however, a middle ground that opposes alien subjugation while remaining pragmatic enough to see the economic potential of the Cardamine. I am delighted to see this common sense approach being the cornerstone of the National Council, as it was also the case for former Contari Lance and 101st under more reasonable leaders.
You surely understand that Malta population, even considering the labor resettlement programs and an influx of volunteers from across the Sirius, is relatively small in comparison to its numerous enemies on every single border. Considering low fertility and limited industry, Cardamine is, at least for now, vital to the survival of Malta. It is the real fuel for your war machine which is the only thing standing between Malta and forces of Gallia, Kusari, Corsairs or even Crayter Republic, not to mention armed corporations such as Core, GMG and IMG. Cardamine is for Malta what oil was for Arab states on ancient Earth. Their wise leaders knew that oil wells will eventually get dry and when it happens the billionaire will become a beggar overnight. Instead of vanquishing the oil industry straight away they decided to invest their wealth into new technologies with an aim to establish this way a sustainable economy. By the time electric and hydrogen engines made oil based fuels obsolete, most Arab states managed to become technological hubs attracting the best and brightest from all around the globe.
A wise idealist is the patient one. There is no stopping of the Cardamine trade now. However, considering our Cardamine-extended life-spans we may all live to see the bright future you are dreaming of. But only if we work together. As I see it our differences are negligible if you compare us with the Nomad-worshipers from The Commune who openly practice eugenics and transhumanism. If I was you I would certainly prefer to seek compromise with us instead of the Commune. However, survival of Malta is above everything else. If you insist on endangering it by suffocating us with your embargoes, you will leave me no other option. Cardamine must flow and if I have to ally myself with the devil to ensure it, reluctantly, I will.
I would really love to speak with you directly in a hope of reaching a long-term compromise and possibly a prelude of a fruitful cooperation.
Kind regards,
Professor Provocateur
Nicole Hunter
P.S. I do kindly ask you to send 40 000 000 SC to LH~R&D as a refund for our lost income from the halted transport.

Senorita Hunter.
I'm not sure I've ever truly met any Lane Hacker before, so forgive me if the event is a little underwhelming.
I appreciate your honesty, and while I can't say that the Republic's ideals lie with your beliefs, I will say that the whole of the Nacion feels sympathetic to a point. The Republic's goals do not lie with 'destroying the economy' or any item of the sort. In contrast, the cabinet and military body has seen great promise in Cardamine, though not through the use of raw trade. As you reference ancient Earth, and the old Arab states, so will I, though on a much different course.
As it did back then, the psychoactive drug known as marijuana floats around our abodes like air and bad Neural Net jokes. The drug back then was used purely as a form of relaxation device, and in time, was eventually used to help nullify the chronic pains of individuals who had been subjected to trauma unable to cured by standard medicines. Over time, the drug was put to the same use constantly, and while the synthetic version we have today is more or less a carbon copy or the original in almost all aspects, it does not range past the ability to reduce pain. The Republic's scientists have theorized that while Cardamine can have lasting effects, all of which you're familiar with, such as extended life expectancy, increased physical strength and cognitive function, experimentation with the drug has given light to the idea that more good could come from it than was ever perceived before. The benefits without the ailments, long lasting boosts to the benefits, and even a lack of effects from withdrawal were theorized.
The Republic's goal was never to destroy Malta's economy, and certainly not to see the homeworld besieged by enemies. In fact, certain opponents of the 'Orange Dream', as well as the homeworld in general, have seen promise in the Republic's goals, which the Council refuses to understand could potentially be a greater benefit to our society than the original idea of cardamine smuggling could ever be. While we'll never expect groups such as the Commune, the 'Oracles' or the 101st see the light of the ideas the Republic hopes to make reality, their disregard being one of our main motivators, we do believe that their refusal will continue to feed the growing desire of the Maltese people to adapt and change to better fit the survival of our society. Where your belief stands with continuing the trade that, in the end, poisons our people, we see promise in ending the pointless fighting with groups that would rather see promise from our culture.
In short, the Republic will continue to abhor slavery, the trade and the continuation of wars that in truth stem from the 'Dream'. Adaptation and change will do the homeworld good, and while it may be a prod to some of the factions the Council sees as allies, we will continue to drive on to work for a better Malta.
To remedy the tension, however, I will speak with my advisors and the Fleet Admiral to amend the codex to see favor towards those who have, in one eye or another, had interest to aid the Maltese people. I cannot, however, authorize payment of the 'losses' that Colonel Valdez was responsible for. I am merely a politician, and do not oversee the treasury or the national stockade.

Senorita Hunter.
Indeed.
You'll have to forgive my lack of update, Senorita. On the matter of the treasury, Senorita La Huerta has seen no reason to transfer the sum, it seems. While I've not had the intent to lord my position over those who aid me in this Nacion's running, as we are all of a fairly strong belief in individuality, it appears I was not as adamant in my suggestion. I will speak with her within the day and see if an understanding can't be met. In the worst of cases, the money will simply be lost. Best, you'll receive your money and an 'apology statement'.
As for a proposal to deal with our issue, I'm afraid I've already done as much as Senor Santiago is willing to allow me. With the Armed Forces seeing the need to protect Malta in these trying days, I'm afraid the most I could persuade him was to lax the cardamine restriction for those bearing your transponders, the Chrysanthemums and any Rogue party that sees fit to trade with Malta. While he wasn't pleased with the outcome, it's certainly better than anything he'd have given the proper circumstances.
I hope it's an acceptable, though not truly ideal, solution to the issue. The Republic is still fledgling in it's workings, and while politics does have say, I'm afraid it's not much branching from the Armed Forces we once stemmed off of.
