[split] Discussion about Cruiser Greifswald - Shelco - 01-22-2018

The infocard states that the ship was passed onto the LWB because they were kind of the last sympathetic organization to the LWB, very simple explanation for a useless and unnecessary change both in and ooRP. Gaians are busy in Bretonia and don't have ZoI or any force in Rheinland, a much more logical thing to do would be giving it back to the Hessians or the Unioners. Now Stuttgart's only unlawful base is owned by bretonian terrorists... really...

Infocard for reference:
The Greifswald is a rare example of a Hel cruiser in continuous service ever since it was first launched. The ship was originally constructed at the shipyard of Wolfsburg almost two decades ago. Its service under Hessian colours was short but intense, and numerous exchanges of fire with much stronger vessels of the Military soon left the cruiser scarred and unable to keep up with Hessians’ dangerous working environment. Its owners were unwilling to let the resources go waste, and as the ship accumulated damage that made it unsuitable for direct engagements, it was recalled to Wolfsburg for a retrofit. It was decided to modify the cruiser into a staging platform, stripping some of its armour and heavy armaments in favour of hangar capabilities and point defence. As a result, the ship became a miniature carrier, and the burden of its maintenance was then passed on to the LWB, as a gesture of friendship.

Ever since the change of ownership, Greifswald filled a role very similar to its heavier counterpart, the Schwarzwald, acting as a mobile firebase and a supply point for LWB and Hessian raiders in western Stuttgart. The ship remained fairly stationary for the coming years, only alternating between different locations within Westnebel to avoid detection by lawful forces.

The next decade was particularly stale for the vessel, with nothing but scarce maintenance at Wolfsburg breaking the monotony. This state of affairs lasted until the middle months of 824 AS, not long after the brutal conquest of Saalburg. The loss of the outpost threw the already weak LWB leadership into disarray. With most local leaders overthrown, and no one capable of reuniting the squabbling subgroups, the movement inevitably became inert. Some members of the organisation decided to turn to their closest allies for help, however, the overly invasive “aid” provided by both Hessians and Unioners left little doubt. In the eyes of Greifswald’s crew, who were helplessly watching LWB crumble from afar, their former friends were now vultures, tearing the small organisation apart for their own selfish gains.

Unwilling to become pawns of neighbouring factions, the crew of the ship remained hidden within the nebula. Soon joined by a handful of like-minded refugees from Darmstadt, the Greifswald, now accompanied by a few transport vessels, remained idle as the last LWB members planned their next move. After a long and heated debate, they made a daring decision to enlist foreign help. With no one but the Gaians remaining sympathetic to their organisation, a contact was made with LWB’s bretonian partners. Bolstered by limited financial and tactical support of their new patrons, the “remnant fleet”, as some of its members began to call it, is now slowly sending out its small craft, scavenging for supplies and preparing to continue their fight for Stuttgart. Even in spite of the widespread doubt whether there’s anything left worth fighting for.

I just took it as they still do their LWB stuff, just with support from and under the guise of Gaians. heck, the current Gaian Guard already has 3 sub-groups in it, this could easily be a fourth. perhaps an ID update could come (if it hasn't already) granting Gaians some rheinland/omega zoi, or lines to counter synth as well?

Ship will likely be moving during the next two updates and won't stay in Stuttgart.

Gaians are bretonian eco-terrorists and should definitely remain that. If their force is split up that much then it makes even less sense to deploy people far away, I wouldn't mind a Gaian ship passing there but a base? The LWB would logically give the ship back to a faction that is certain to be able to repair/move it properly, meaning all Rheinland factions. So what makes them ignore their 3 closest allies in Rheinland and instead give it to the Gaians?

Doesn't make the inRP decision any more useful in my eyes. Even if it was, the lack of forces the Gaians can/would risk to send there to make sure the ship doesn't rot in space doesn't even out the possibilities they have there. From an ingame perspective it is even worse, unless the Gaian ID gets Stuttgart ZoI, which, again, would seem rather forced to justify the ship's placement there other than an actual tactical decision they would come up with.

Be honest, Shelco, you're just mad the Bundies got nothing from LWB ceasing to exist.

RE: [split] Discussion about Cruiser Greifswald - "Jade Fire" - 01-22-2018

Well he does bring up a good point. InRP they gave it to the Gaians yes, but Gaians got no ZOI in that system, nor an inRP reason to go there yet, thats the base line hes getting at and it makes sense, if the base does not sell cargo for the Gaian ships, nor ships or even weapons, its just a Gaian IFF'd station outside of their ZOI with no practical inRP use at the moment

Kaiserslautern depot is now Bundschuh IFF'd, that is the best thing we could have gotten, I literally don't care who owns the Cruiser, if you look closely, I didn't even suggest the Bundschuh.
