REPORT #825-001
TO: HCSTA High Commissar Alexey Novikov
FROM: SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov
RE: Progress on ‘Tselina’ project

Comrade High Commissar,

The crew of “Kardashev” salutes you as one! We are pleased to hereby rapport to you on steps taken to advance our glorious cause and project ‘Tselina’. We believe, that the steps we have taken were in the right direction and the yields of research during the short existence of SCEC can prove to you that your efforts in the Duma on establishing this institution were not in vain.

After analysing the scope of the project, the research crew came up with the flight agenda and the data that can be collected during one short flight that can draw minimal attention and allow the vessel to stay clear of hostile sensors without hindering our capacity to obtain needed data and samples.
The expedition included two ships: CPRV ‘Kardashev’ and a personal ‘Insurgent’-class vessel of aspirant Anton Shweik that was subsequently used for reconnaissance and probing.

The course used:

Path 1: Mykolaiv Research Station (New Moscow) -> Omega-49 -> Cayman -> Planet Lesbos (Omicron Omega).

Throughout the course we managed to stay undetected by hostile vessels and made it safe to Planet Lesbos. Our particular point of interest was obtaining information of the weather patterns of the Planet as well as updates on atmosphere composition.

The crew came up with schemes for cyclone patterns in both hemispheres.

As we suspected, the planet is of similar type as Braillia and weather patterns resemble each other for 64.1%. The yields can be subsequently used for planning of lifeforms or terraforming aerosols dispersion over Braillia.

Note: Lesbos is overall suitable for planetfall and is considered as a valuable asset by the Corsairs. We do believe that should the hostilities between the Coalition and the Corsairs aggravate, the proximity of the Cayman system which is under our control now can allow for swift blitzkrieg against located nearby ‘Barcelona’ station and taking control over Lesbos which may be susbsequently colonised with the technologies we already have.

Note 2: Cryer base used a few communication satellites over Lesbos. We managed to hack them and download some encrypted data currently being decoded at Mykolaiv facility. We also found a weak yet very consistent signal from a distant quadrant of Omicron Omega system. Aspirant Shweik undertook a recon flight and found a fully automatic base run by Gammu AI. More details on this are to be provided in a separate report by aspirant Shweik.

Path 2: Lesbos (Omicron Omega) -> Freeport 5 (Omega-41) -> Omega-55 -> Planet Vespus (Omicron Theta) -> Planet Pygar (Omicron Theta)

Using the advantage of our intel on Omicron Omega, we employed a rapid manoeuvre to Omega-41 jumphole without detection. After the repairs from irradiation at Freeport-5 and updating information from the zoners, we made it safe to Omicron Theta through Omega-55.

The first point of interest was understudied in Coalition literature Planet Vespus. Zoners provided us with some useful insights that allowed to speed up our analysis. The planet was proven to be devoid of life signatures. The atmosphere is composed of noble gasses, mostly of Neon and Argon and some Helium, slowly dissipating into space. The planet poses no further interest for the People of Coalition.

The second point of interest was Planet Pygar, the alleged initial source of nomad contamination that led to the events commonly referred to in bourgeoisie academic literature as ‘Nomad Wars’. Although the planet has been studied for many times and we obtained most of the data on it, the Coalition never truly performed the analysis of our own.

We were mostly interested in possible biological signatures in planet’s soil, atmosphere and hydrosphere. We also conducted a seismic analysis and 3D-scanning of the derelict alien ‘city’.

As we suspected, the ‘city’ was empty, although the pattern of structure can provide insight into mining on planet Volgograd. In particular, it pertains to how natural karst caves can be adapted to industrial mining without inflicting damage to the cave (more details in a separate article to be published by our geologist Dr. Huang Xiao).

The analysis of atmosphere and almost absent hydrosphere was tedious and troublesome, as we lost three probes to unstable weather conditions. With skilful calibrations and angle amplification carried out by aspirant Shweik, the probe reached the ground and was capable of transmitting the data back regardless dust clouds interfering the radio signal. We found out that the nomads left the world almost barren, yet simple prokaryotes persist and flourish in small lakes of underground water and upper layers of soil. This proves that ecosystem is not doomed after nomad invasion, although further investigation is needed in controlled conditions for eukaryotes and viruses.

Path 3: Planet Pygar –> Corfu Base (Omicron Theta) -> Kamchatka Base (Omega-55) -> Omega-47 -> Omega-5 -> Mykolaiv Research Station (New Moscow).

After refuelling at Corfu Base we set our course back to New Moscow system. However, not far from Corfu we were intercepted by a corsair gunboat-class vessel CNS ‘Perseus’. The culprit forced us to fight back despite our reluctance and we inflicted substantial damage to corsair’s vessel without receiving any hull damage, leaving the latter without nanobots and shield batteries yet still in one piece. The fight was dragging on and realising the hazard of waging a battle near Omicron Gammu system and without possible reinforcements we decided to withdraw to Omega-55 system. The priority of the data obtained was utmost so believe we did it right, although defer the judgement to you, comrade High Commissar.

After resupplying ammo at Kamchatka base, we proceeded back to New Moscow system without incidents.

We hope, that our extensive report will suffice to answer most of the question back in the High Commissariat and the Ministry.

Availing this opportunity, we would like to assure you, comrade Novikov, of our deem esteem and would like to draw your attention to necessity of providing SCRA professional military pilots to escort our expeditions into deep enemy territory.

With respect,

SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov

REPORT #825-002
TO: HCSTA High Commissar Alexey Novikov
FROM: SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov
RE: Progress on ‘Tselina’ project

Comrade High Commissar,

The crew of “Kardashev” salutes you as one and hereby presents you the next report.

REPORT SUMMARY

This report in brief describes most recent steps taken to further ‘Tselina’ project as well as your personal directive #HCD-32 on the gas substance commonly referred to as ‘Asurite’. To sum up, the mission was a success, although we could not obtain all the data we intended to due to interference of third parties. Our expedition also suffered casualties with one Militsiya pilot MIA and my aspirant losing his spacecraft and suffering moderate injuries. The data obtained were successfully delivered to Mykolaiv Research Station for further analysis.

Course of Action

Our itinerary started at Zoners’ facility ‘Grand Vista Orbital’ in Omega-49 system. There SCEC forces of CPRV ‘Kardashev’ and ‘Insurgent’ VHF of aspirant Anton Shweik were joined by SCRA Senior Lieutenant Vladislav Vaska. Being convoyed by SCRA pilot, we deemed possible to employ the shortest route through Omega-58 system. However, Sn. Lieutenant Vaska intercepted a Corsair bomber that managed to jump into Kiev (Cayman) system. Under Sn. Lieutenant’s orders we headed to Kiev system to protect the sovereign territories of Sirius Coalition from hostile incursion.

We intercepted Corsair vessel in quadrant 5B. The vessel proved to be a ‘Preatorian’-class bomber piloted by a corsair who referred to himself as ‘Jose Caballero’. Failing to comply with demand to be interrogated by Sn. Lieutenant Vaska, the fight began. SCRA officer ordered SCEC forces to stay clear of the fight. To our regret, Sn. Lieutenant Vaska’s ship suffered critical damage during the fight and CPRV ‘Kardashev’ had to secure his escape pod while ordering aspirant Shweik to engage the bomber. At that very time, Corsairs capital vessel identified CNS ‘Lanza’ approached space dangerously close to Shadowhaven station and we decided it was necessary to stop this incursion by repelling the capital vessel using force. After a brief fight, our technological supremacy allowed to disintegrate ‘Praefect’s’ hull with a mortar causing fatal breach.

To our regret, we underestimated ‘Praetorian’s’ characteristics and peculiar feature of mounting VHF-class weaponry that allowed the latter to come on top in fights against both of our VHF, most-probably a multi-core synchronised energy supply system. In exchange for securing aspirant’s Shweik escape pod we allowed the Corsair vessel to pick up the survivors from CNS ‘Lanza’ and return to Corsairs’ space. The bravery of these Corsairs can not be denied, though. We advise to mount experimental ‘Pechal’ module on all Coalition capital ships to dampen hostile psychic activity and forceful anxiety and despair, that will allow to improve our win-loss rate by approximately 14.9% (preliminary evaluation). We also call upon engineers at Mykolaiv to study the possibility of mounting VHF-class weaponry on our ‘Revolution’-class bombers to secure the strategic advantage of Coalition forces from now on.

After refuelling and repairing the ships, our expedition proceeded to Omicron Delta using the following route:

Omega-49 -> Omega-58 -> Omega-47 -> Omega-41 -> Omega-55 -> Omicron Theta -> Omicron Kappa -> Omicron Delta.

It should be noted that starting from Omega-47 we were followed by an Auxesian gunboat-class automated vessel that claimed to be on the same route to quote: ‘Deep Omicrons’. As the vessel posed no evident threat to the mission, we decided to ignore its presence and learn the most of it. The ship design was totally human-made with some cockpit modifications allowing to house a powerful computer which was likely to be the AI core. The design is absolutely different from the data we obtained having scanned Outpost Primus in Omicron Omega: unlike machines made by machines of Gammu AI, Auxesian specimen was most-likely human-made as it was more bulky and crude in design. Our research team believes that Coalition research capabilities will be capable of producing similar self-aware AI modules if set as a research priority.

Having made it to Omicron Delta without any hindrance, we proceeded to our objectives:
  1. Surveying the crust and microflora of Tuvalu’s moon Nauru;
  2. Studying ‘Asurite’ in quadrant 3F and relevant megastructures of alien origin.
Despite Core facility orbiting Nauru, our expedition made it safe to Lagrange-one point of Nauru and commenced launching probes. The analysis showed weak tectonic activity and pretty regular microflora for a world with derelict structures of alien origin. There is also a small colony of unknown allegiance and an unfinished docking ring. Our research team believes, that the surface installation belongs to the Core and that heavy protection by the Core ‘Yaren’ base and a battleship-type in orbit indicate Core’s ongoing undercover operation to terraform Nauru. Since the planet yielded no particular valuable data of possible application in ‘Tselina’ project, we decided to employ nuclear bombs aboard our VHF to destabilise the tectonic situation on Nauru in order to undermine Core operation that is detrimental to our plans on setting foot in Omicrons.

However, this was not going to happen as our scans captured an unlikely presence in Omicrons – Unioners. A wing of three VHF came out of Omicron Kappa with a view to carrying out a mission referred to as ‘GHEIST’ (that is the work for our intelligence to be done). Keeping in mind our priorities, we headed to 3F quadrant from where we previously had received strange results of spectral analysis with unknown chemical element.

Having successfully passed Unioners without drawing attention, we made it to the quadrant that was filled with the presence of Wilde and alien vessels of organic structure (also known as ‘nomads’ in bourgeoisie literature). While being covered by SCRA we managed to sample ‘Asurite for further analysis at Mykolaiv and conducted a material reverse chemical analysis of alien megastructures. The preliminary analysis showed that also natural-like in appearance, these asteroid-like structures haven much thicker crystalline facets and ion bonds, making it very solid albeit light. To obtain the sample we had to use our frontal cannons to inflict even a slight damage to the structure. Further analysis at Mykolaiv is required and is estimated to take at least a week.

In the meantime, the developments near Freeport-11 started to get dangerous. The recon flight by Sn. Lieutenant Vaska revealed alien presence in the system. The agile alien specimen was equivalent to our VHF and engaged Unioners. For the sake of survival under guidance of the respective SCRA officer we entered into temporal truce with the Unioners wing to fight off alien presence. We were also assisted by an independent scientist Dr. Dreilide McKane. At this very time a handy reinforcement in the face of a Militsiya pilot Cpt. Evgeniy Rain came to our aid.

To our surprise and regret, the alien specimen was very fast and tactically-savvy. Despite the cover of ‘Kardashev’ secondary guns, throughout the fight we lost two Coalition and one Unioner VHF-class vessels.

Aspirant Shweik approached dangerously close to the specimen away from the support of the rest of the expedition and was badly damaged. Luckily, we managed to salvage his ship with the escape pod.

Militsiya pilot Cpt. Rain disobeyed direct orders of the Senior SCRA officers and engaged the alien vessel without cover and tactical plan, resulting in the former’s demise. Current status – MIA since we never managed to retrieve his escape pod but due to proximity to Freeport-11 Zoners might have done so.

Quite soon the purpose of Unioners’ present became evident as their transport filled with civilian refugees appeared from Omicron Kappa jumphole. Without preliminary intel on the status around Omicron Kappa jumphole, the transport was immediately obliterated by alien specimen resulting in many casualties among the civilians and proving Unioners’ lack of tactical coordination that was in more detailed analysed from military point of view in Sn. Lieutenant Vaska’s report. The whole Unioners’ mission proved to be a complete failure.

Despite the heavy losses, we still had to finish our mission. At that time it was evident that the alien specimen lacked firepower to take down the rest of Unioners and a capital vessel like Kardashev. Our acoustic sensors started to capture a sound pattern coming out of the specimen which we believed was a form of communication requesting aid. Enabling long-range scanners and using planet Tuvalu as a reflective mirror for amplification of the signal, we captured activity in deeper alien space. On that point a decision to retreat was made. CPRV ‘Kardashev’ made a jump to Omicron Kappa and proceeded the original itinerary mentioned above to return back to Kamchatka Station in Omega-55 and, after refuelling and fixing aspirant Shweik’s spacecraft and treating his frostbite after space exposure, to New Moscow system.
Sn. Lieutenant Vaska stayed back to cover our retreat as well as to secure Unioners’ civilians.
Thereafter the data and samples were successfully returned to Mykolaiv Research Station.

CONCLUSION

  1. Having preliminary analysis completed, we believe that we can proceed to mining ‘Asurite’ for further research and industrial use.
  2. We have a confirmed information on human-made AI that can be replicated on Coalition facilities.
  3. Nauru is being terraformed by the Core (likely) and most probably indicates their plans on further expansion in Omicron Delta. The planet remains vulnerable to targeted bombing of seismo-active areas should the confrontation become necessary. Except for derelict alien structures, Nauru poses no interest to the People of the Coalition.
  4. Unioners can be reasoned with in dire situations. However, their lack of coordination of a fully-fledged military organisation make them at best mediocre allies.
  5. Corsairs’ bombers employ multi-core synchronisation technology that can and must be replicated for our use. Until then, we have the disadvantage fighting their bombers.

Note 1: The collaboration with SCRA forces proved to be very beneficial. We would like to call upon you, comrade High Commissar to distinguish SCRA Sn. Lieutenant Vladislav Vaska for his assistance with an honorary award and recommend to SCRA command his promotion.

Note 2: upon recommendation by SCRA military personnel, we request facilities and instructors to conduct a versatile military training for SCEC personnel in case of forced hostilities.

Hail the Unity of Our People!
With respect,
SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov

REPORT #825-003
TO: HCSTA High Commissar Alexey Novikov
FROM: Aspirant Anton Shweik
RE: Article for review

Overview of the observation of Nomad bigger "Marduk"[1] speciemen in action in the Omicron Delta
By A.Shweik, M.Belov.

1. Introduction

According to Decree #825/2/11 of the Second Plenary Session of the HCSTA on Frontier Expansion, Dr.Belov research group has started exploration of Omegas and Omicron Systems in search for valuable data for “Renegade”[2] and “Tselina”[3] projects. Group’s leader ship SCEC|CPRV-Kardashev is well-equipped with large arrays of sensors, detectors and emitters, which are able to operate within range of EM-spectrum, and have the newest “Elbrus-X23”[4] onboard calculating cluster.

When group’s recon “Insurgent” fighter got vector in gravitation anomaly leading to Omicron Delta[5], local communications broadcasts interception provided info about heavy fights in this system. After the contact with Order’s agent, research group encountered a large nomad speciemen ”Marduk”.

2. Observations and results

This speciemen was encountered by research group during its attack on station identified as “Kemmerer Supply Station”[6]. This accident allowed our group to obtain unprecedented spectral data of nomad bio-engineered weapons in action. Mentioned speciemen also did use unknown type of cloaking during hostilities, allowing it to “disappear” in EM-spectrum.

2.1. Investigation of the spectra of bio-engineered systems

As known bioengineering technologies of nomads emit light with a wavelength ν = 300-450 nm, what unmodified human sees as “violet” or “blue”. Proceeding from the assumption that this glow can be secondary fluorescence of outer “hull's” material, and considering the Stokes shift, we made the assumption that it is possible to study the internal structure of the living nomad organisms by detectors operating in x-ray and γ-ray spectra.

p.1 Nomad big speciemen with escort:image from "Insurgent" OLS

Measurements, made during speciemen's "quiet" stance, showed us only propulsion system's plasma traces, probably due the "hull" absorbed much of inner radiation.

p.2 Measurements result in x-ray spectrum:image from SCEC|CPRV-Kardashev's ART-24 observatory

Measurements made during speciemen's "aggressive" stance, showed inner "energy system", this x-ray signals probably can be high-conductive plasma, feeding the bio-engineered ray emitters, which can fastly adapt in needed range of EM-spectrum to deal maximum damage to their targets. Weak γ-rays emission was also detected, which can indicate ongoing nuclear reactions inside of speciemen.

p.3 Measurements result in x-ray spectrum:image from SCEC|CPRV-Kardashev's ART-24 observatory

2.2. Observing nomad’s EM-cloaking

As mentioned above, nomad speciemen’s “hull” can absorb much of EM-radiation. But most interestingly, speciemen can also fully hide self-emission and successfully redirect incoming irradiation, literally disappearing and cannot be spotted by EM-methods. This is the most likely theory, but another one provides speciemen partially moving out of our main dimensions by an unknown method.

3. Conclusions

Our investigation of nomad’s “energy system” suppose their native ability of easy and low-energy cost control of inner thermonuclear fusion, probably providing them power for bio-engineered adaptive range emitters. Further investigations needed for understanding of nomad’s methods used for it. Probably with received spectral signatures, we can calibrate our detectors and notice more in deep Omicrons.

EM-cloaking of this speciemen needed further study with gravimetric methods. It can answer the question of this physic nature, and if this based on EM interactions, we can try to study and reconstruct it for Coalition People's purposes. Now we lack the nomad samples for a comprehensive study.

REPORT #825-004
TO: HCSTA High Commissar Alexey Novikov
FROM: SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov
RE: Acquisition of Construction Module

Comrade High Commissar,

The crew of “Kardashev” salutes you as one!

This brief report is to corroborate successful acquisition of a construction ship from the Order with a view to construct SCEC research station at a location to be designated further on. The mission was supervised by Aspirant Anton Shweik and will be in-details covered in his report.

CPRV ”Kardashev” heeded the agenda devised by Aspirant Shweik and escorted our operative to Omicron Mu where the latter successfully obtained the ship.

The itinerary employed:

Mykolaiv Research Station (New Moscow) -> Omega-58 -> Omega-47 -> Omega-41 -> Omega-55 -> Corfu Base (Omicron Theta; repairs and refuelling) -> Sigma 17 -> Omicron Sigma

Observing our diplomatic neutrality with The Order, CPRV ‘Kardashev’ remained on guard at Omicron Mu jumphole in 3F quadrant of Omicron Sigma until the operative returned with the construction ship.

The whole time to the destination we remained undetected by hostile forces. However, on our way back in Omega-55 system we experienced communication interferences in different spectra. Similar patterns have been previously observed when we encountered alien specimen in Omicron Delta (detailed coverage provided by Aspirant Shweik in his previous report). Expecting the worst, we decided to dock Kamchatka station. Having repaired, resupplied and failing to read any hostile signatures using both “Kardashev’s” and station’s sensors, we decided to continue our path using the closest jumphole to Omega-11 system. The itinerary was modified to:

Kamchatka Station (Omega-55) -> Omega-11 -> Omega-47 -> Omega-58 -> New Moscow

In Omega-11 our fears came true: a big alien specimen appeared out of nowhere, presumably having been following us in cloaked mode. This one, in particular, was of slightly different colour, possibly indicating its higher position of the hierarchy. The images we saw in our heads clearly indicated its aggressive intentions, most commonly using the word “void”, “anger”, and “purify”. We suggest, that the specimen was some kind of a mind-node that is capable of controlling lesser alien specimens.

Quote: Note 1: "This method of communication is particularly of interest to us since it instils fear on subconscious level. Our research crew believes, it is capable of instilling other emotions as well. If we manage to obtain more samples and replicate it, we can create a mobile “invigorating” generators to dampen psychic capabilities of the Corsairs (as it was mentioned in the previous report) and other enemies of the Coalition, as well as to enhance our propaganda, covert revolutionary operations in Houses core worlds and to bolster the morale of our troops." - Dr. Belov

Our mission coming first, CPRV “Kardashev” changed its position to rearguard and secured the operative coming first through the jumphole before proceeding itself. We hoped, that the specimen will not follow us into the space of our allies Red Hessians of Omega-47. However, the specimen appeared from the jumphole a few moments after us. Securing the only construction ship of non-Coalition design in the property of SCEC and the Coalition, it was decided for “Kardashev” to interrupt the pursuit by engaging the specimen.

On engaging, the crew of “Kardashev” could feel rage and anger in our minds. This impeded the accuracy of our turret gunners and overall dampened our battle capabilities. Using the most advanced tachyon-based military technologies of the Coalition, however, proved to be effective against both the shield and the hull of an alien vessel. With proper tactical positioning in asteroid field of Walker Nebula, we managed to get on tail of the specimen and disintegrate its shield. Afterwards, we used the mortyr to breach its hull. The bright bluish light that burst out of the hull upon the breach can indicate either ongoing nuclear reactions inside (as it was described by Aspirant Shweik in his report on the encounter with “Marduk”-class specimen) or presence of plasma. Taking into consideration the organic origin of the hull, the version with plasma seems to be less credible. However, if that is true, we have no preliminary idea on how organic matter can contain plasma.

Upon the destruction of the specimen we managed to salvage its remains: damaged hull parts and solid objects of spherical shape which are likely to be some sort of ammo. Unfortunately, nothing of the intestines could be obtained.

The remains were hermetically sealed off in one of the cargo pods of “Kardashev” and cooled down to 1 degree Kelvin for further studies.

After the encounter, “Kardashev” continued to escort our operative to New Moscow system. The rest of the itinerary was completed without any developments posing threat to the mission.

FURTHER RESEARCH NOTES

  • The remains of the specimen will remain to be sealed off in the cargo bay until the directive of the HCSTA is given as well as the permission of Mykolaiv Research Station.
  • All ship personnel aboard “Kardashev” have undergone chemical- and bio-sterilisation and extensive medical check-up to avoid possible infection by alien microorganisms.
  • Special equipment is needed to be assembled in order to dissect the remains which are extremely solid and can not be pierced through with regular lab equipment.
  • The analysis is suggested to be carried out on the orbit of Planet Odessa not far from Mykolaiv Research Station. In case of any unforeseen events that might pose threat to “Kardashev” or, “Kardashev” having been contaminated, other Coalition facilities and ships nearby, the sample (or “Kardashev” with the sample) can be thrown into the gravitational pool of Odessa and burned down in the atmosphere.

This report is also to formally seek permission from HCSTA to proceed with the preparation for the dissection. The research crew is looking forward to your notification, Comrade High
Commissar Novikov.

Hail the Unity of Our People!

With respect,
SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov

Dragi tovarishi,

In case you haven't heard the news, there has been a sudden increase in witness reports of slaver activity in the Tau's.

This suggests that the Outcasts are desperate for labor force.

We must do our utmost best to prevent as many slave transports as possible from reaching planet Malta.

Not only the Outcasts will work these people to their deaths, but their labor will boost our enemy's economy.

If we liberate these people they can start a new life within the Coalition, all citizens have skills that can be put to use.

The possibility that you may find new work colleagues among them is not improbable.

I have been given permission from HC to conduct a rescue operation and bring these people to New Moscow, and I request your support.

Tasks that you may assist with:

1.Provide fire support in case of hostile response from Outcasts or other enemies.
2.Provide transportation for the slaves.
3.Locate slave shipments.
4.Provide deterrent for possible hostilities.
5.Conduct medical check ups on slaves before bringing them on New Moscow as to prevent foreign diseases.

Slava Rodu! Slava Koalitziya Siriusa!

RE: Request on Slavery

Comrade Vaska,

This news is troubling indeed. However, SCEC draw your attention to the fact that rescue operations lie outside of the scope of the responsibilities stipulated in the Decree #825/2/11 under which SCEC operates. SCEC does not have any transporting ships adequate to house passengers and refitting the only capital ship in our possession is not an option. We also believe, that for medical check-ups a typical medical module of any friendly station shall suffice. Therefore, we do not deem it expedient to dispatch SCEC for this mission.

However, as the aforementioned Decree #825/2/11 provides, SCEC obeys the orders of senior military personnel of SCRA and stands ready to assist with mission of any kind unless it threatens the primary objectives of SCEC. If the SCRA command provides us the express clearance regarding rescue operation in Tau systems, SCEC is ready to render the needed assistance. Otherwise, we are subordinate to HCSTA directives that require our concentration on other projects.

SCEC avails this opportunity to re-assure you, Comrade Vaska, of our esteem towards you.

Hail the Unity of our People!

SCEC FORM #42/2: UNFORSEEN DAMAGE TO EXPEDITIONARY ASSETS

EXPEDITION: “Bystrina”
DAMAGED VESSELS:
  • “Hurricane” Battlecruiser x1 - CPRV “Kardashev” (Minor hull breach, reactor leakage)
  • “Insurgent” VHF x1 – Aspirant Anton Shweik’s personal spacecraft (Destroyed)
LOCATION: Kiev system (Cayman)
REASON: Hostilities with the Corsairs
CURRENT STATUS OF DAMAGED VESSELS:
  • CPRV “Kardashev” – hull repaired, reactor’s integrity being renewed;
  • Aspirant Shweik’s “Insurgent” – being re-assembled.
ADDITIONAL INFO/LOSSES: Reconnaissance module looted by Corsairs’ forces

DETAILED EXPLANATION

During routine survey of Planet Braillia’s atmosphere, hostile signatures of four Corsair’s vessels were detected: two bombers and two VHF. Since it was an incursion into Coalition sovereign space, SCEC personnel carried out its duty to protect the Homeland with any assets available, albeit civilian.

SCEC were represented by CPRV “Kardashev” and Aspirant Anton Shweik on the battlefield. We were assisted by local militia wing: “Revolution” bomber pilot comrade Gennadiy Belov. The SCRA command was immediately contacted regarding the situation in Kiev system. Yet, before SCRA reinforcements SCEC and militia forces had to fend off hostiles on our own. The beginning of the fight was not in our favour as we lost “Revolution” bomber of Gennadiy Belov.

The reinforcements of SCRA arrived quite soon, represented by “Insurgent” SCRA pilot comrade Antoine Joassard, SCRA “Storm” Gunboat CPW “Matochkin” piloted by Comrade Premier Mehmed Selim, and a militia “Insurgent” pilot comrade Anna Novikova. The reinforcements managed to turn the tide of the battle. By then damaged CPRV “Kardashev” was ordered to withdraw from the fight in order to save valuable equipment and scientific data. Unfortunately, Aspirant Shweik was left without cover of “Kardashev’s” turrets, resulting in his fighter sustaining severe damage incompatible with flight. Thereafter, comrade Antoine Joassard has also sustained critical damage and evacuated his ship.

Glorious SCRA and Militsiya forces destroyed three Corsairs’ vessels, driving the last one away to the Periphery cloud. This victory undeniably secured space around Braillia and hindered Corsairs’ further advance in the system. All Coalition pilots were successfully picked up by rescue shuttles from Shadowhaven Station. The remains of the destroyed spacecrafts were delivered to Shadowhaven station for repairs and re-commissioning.

Unfortunately, the escaped Corsair pilot managed to salvage the reconnaissance equipment from Aspirant Shweik’s “Insurgent”. Although, this particular equipment does not poses any threat as to the loss of technologies, it is an undesirable waste of SCEC budget.

We believe, despite the damage to SCEC assets, they helped to carry out the strategic objective of securing Cayman system by assisting SCRA and Militsiya forces in direct combat. Thus, we deem the sustained damage acceptable and justified.

REPORT #825-004
TO: HCSTA High Commissar Alexey Novikov
FROM: SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov
RE: Progress on ‘Tselina’ project

Comrade High Commissar,

The crew of “Kardashev” salutes you as one and hereby presents you the next report.

REPORT SUMMARY

  • Obtained scraps of AI Drone originating from Omicron Kappa
  • Obtained remains of smaller “nomad” specimen
  • Omicron Minor mapped
  • Derelict alien tradelanes analysed
  • Active alien jumpgate analysed
  • Adapted “nomad” weaponry obtained

COURSE OF ACTION

Relocation of “Bystrina” Expedition HQ to Kamchatka Station (Omega-55) has proven to be extremely useful for the access to Omicrons and shorten our itinerary and safety thereof significantly.

Our first route:

Kamchatka Station (Omega-55) -> Omicron Theta -> Omicron Kappa -> Freeport-11 (Omiron Delta)

The first run was carried out by CPRV “Kardashev” alone. The main points of interest was lithospheric scanning Planet Vaitupu and receiving intel from local zoners. Both objectives were completed, revealing small deposits of Nikel, Iridium and Titanium on Vaitupu that can be extracted, however the cost/yield ratio is not beneficial for the Coalition.

Upon arriving to Freeport-11 after Vaitupu, CPRV “Kardashev” detected an AI Drone from Omicron Kappu. It showed hostile behavioural patterns in the beginning yet posed no threat overall. Conversation with it revealed its software to be highly outdated as “human speech-to-binary code” function was working very slowly and poorly implemented. The unit refused to accept direct data exchange in binary code, most probably for security reasons. Its ulterior motives remaining unknown, the objective of that particular unit was to research. We believe, that smaller AI nodes like drones are limited in their cognitive capabilities on purpose (see communication log below for details).

Unexpectedly, our interaction was interrupted by a Gallic Intelligence pilot on a VHF identified in Coalition database as “Lynx”. Despite persistent inquiry of the Gaul regarding our mission, we revealed only basic and obvious objectives of ours like “mapping” and “scanning”. The further discussion came down to ideological debates and poses no scientific value.
The events started to develop rapidly when a small “nomad” specimen arrived out of nowhere, showing quite aggressive behavioural patterns similar to those we have seen previously throughout encounters with “nomads”. It engaged AI Drone resulting in the destruction of the latter and immediately attacked Gallic Intelligence. Using the opportunity and occupation of them both, “Kardashev” managed to salvage the remains of the drone for further analysis. Aspirant Shweik is working on AI project and is to issue a separate report on the remains analysis and integration into our own technologies.

The Gallic “Lynx” managed to drive away the specimen into Palau Ice Cloud, fate of both unknown to us. Availing the situation, we returned to Kamchatka Station and secured the findings.

Second route:

Kamchatka Station (Omega-55) -> Omicron Theta -> Corinth Research Station (Omicron Kappa) -> Freeport-11 (Omicron Delta) -> Omicron Minor

The second run was a massive expedition comprising of mixed SCEC, Militsiya and later on SCRA forces. The ships deployed:
  • CPRV “Kardashev” – captain Dr.Belov (SCEC)
  • CPW “Korolev” - captain Antonov (Militsiya)
  • CPW “Indigirka” – captain Gena (Militsiya)
  • “Insurgent” VHF – pilot Anton Shweik (SCEC)
  • ***CLASSIFIED*** “Odin” VHF – pilot Commissar Krsnik (joined the expedition later on)
Our purpose was to investigate Omicron Minor system, namely:
  • Planet Toledo: traces of orbital bombardments. Our intention was to use data obtained to hone our terraforming bombardment process and to provide insight into space-to-surface WMD.
  • Derelict station / ships: the battle in such a remote sector corner must have left hulls of damaged. Information on their design can be useful for engineers back on Mykolaiv Research Station.
  • Any anomalies and/or suspicious activity.
All the goals were successfully completed.

Planet Toledo is completely destroyed and uninhabitable as of the moment. Surprisingly, it preserved the atmosphere. The bombardment was directed at tectonically active regions and on zones of the collision of tectonic plates. This “asymmetric warfare” as it is known in Coalition database is extremely potent even with limited bombardment ammo. We could not establish the type of bombs used as the patterns of damage differ greatly, indicating multiple factions having used their own type of weaponry. Most like, “nomads” were also to blame for the damage.

The expedition also found hulls of “Osiris” class battleship, identified as “Isis” and a hull of Core battlecruiser. The remains were already salvaged multiple times by the time we arrived and posed no value. In addition, Aspirant Shweik traced remains of a destroyed station that posed no interest to our mission.

The true findings of the expedition in question happened next. While mapping the system we ran into a derelict structure of alien origin which strikingly resembled trade lanes used by the “Houses”.

We analysed the material and found it to be 96.3% same as the megastructures in Palau Ice Field in Omicron Delta system. Unlike Houses’ tradelanes, alien technology has no traces of using any form of electronics, leaving the principle of their operation a mystery for us. Our research team believes, the capability to uphold a tradelane “warp” is innate in this material, the properties of which are still to be analysed.

At that very time a suspicious freelancer with Blood Dragons IFF approached our expedition. The presence of a ship with such an ID and IFF in this part of space being unlikely, our Militsiya escort remained alerted all the time. The freelancer, named “Megaera” claimed to be in friendly relations with Blood Dragons and sister to Sakurai Augus. Having neither resources to prove this statement, nor desire to cause a diplomatic fall-out, we left her be on the condition of non-interfering into our surveying process.

Following the idea that a “tradelane” has to lead somewhere, we followed derelict tradelane until leaving Omicron Edge Nebula and finding something truly spectacular and bizarre: an operational alien jumpgate.

Located in 3F quadrant of Omicron Minor, this megastructure is colossal and same as the tradelane has no traces of any electronics inside, and is composed of the same material. At the moment our best minds are thinking over how it can operate, yet we concur that at this verge of our civilisation development, we are incapable of even partly comprehending alien technologies.

Having no idea where the jumpgate can lead and taking into account its operability, the decision was made to refrain from proceeding in and obtaining any information possible from our side. With the help of aspirant Shweik, we managed to launch a probe inside and received the data during the first 0.427 milliseconds of the flight that revealed the character of the generated wormhole to be similar to jumpholes and Houses’ jumpgates.

Our observation was interrupted by a small nomad specimen identical to one the Gaul fought against. However, this one used complex communication techniques that mimicked the vocal patterns of humans. We believe that the specimen used similar “telepathy” that allows nomads to relay their emotions directly into human mind. However this one relayed complex vocal signals, resulting in our personnel “hearing” themselves or other members of the expedition even when the radio communication was not enabled and when the people were on different ships.

Most disturbingly, the specimen quite freely and in amicable way negotiated with previously mentioned freelancer Megaera, who we believe might be an infectee. Despite denying such allegations, Megaera’s behaviour was very suspicious and taking into account complex manipulative “telepathical” techniques used by the specimen, her being infected is very likely.
As we know from the previous encounters with “nomads”, appearance of smaller specimen, the “scouts”, indicate that bigger specimen are nearby. For the purpose of the safety of the expedition and retrieved research data, the decision was made to return to Omicron Delta.

The specimen and the freelancer followed us there and were quite curious about our purpose of being in Omicron Minor. Realising the threat, we had to scrap further objects that are not revealed for the security purpose in this report, and withdraw to Omicron Kappa system.

Later on, we were communicated the presence of comrade Commissar Krsnik in Omicron Delta system. The expedition reported the updates and status to him and proceeded back into Omicron Delta to find him engaging the smaller specimen mentioned above. During the battle, aspirant Shweik’s vessel was severely damaged and tractored into “Kardashev’s” cargo bay to avoid further damage. The ship is currently repaired, the pilot having not sustained significant injuries.

Supreme military prowess and professionalism of SCRA was undisputed as Comrade Commissar took down the specimen. Commissar Krsnik picked up the remaining “ammo” and some pieces of technologies that were subsequently kindly shared with SCEC. “Kardashev” picked up the bio-remains of the hull.

Upon refuelling and repairing on Freeport-11, we parted ways with the Commissar, having received request to obtain “nomad” weaponry for the advances of SCRA weapon line. Since “nomad” weapons usually self-destroys in the process, we decided to obtain samples already adapted for the use on human ships. Having this in mind, we returned to Kamchatka station (Omega-55), in vicinity of which there is abnormally high Wilde activity. With the help of CPW “Indigirka” and repaired ship of Aspirant Shweik, we managed to obtain many samples and delivered them to safety for further analysis and directives from SCRA High Command.

FURTHER RESEARCH NOTES

  • Commence preparation to expedition into alien jumpgate. This will require high secrecy, substantial resources, military presence/assistance of SCRA/Militsiya personnel, zoner pathfinders, and freelancers.
  • Samples from both smaller and bigger specimen are now in possession of the Coalition and SCEC. Commence comparative analysis in terms of chemistry, xenobiology, engineering, etc.
  • Samples of AI drone obtained. Combined with intel on AI outpost in Omicron Omega and observation data on Auxesia “Predator”, SCEC AI department can commence our own AI project. Receiving data from Auxesia upon the request of Commissar Krsnik is expected to speed up the research.
  • Having obtained adapted alien weaponry, commence project on reverse engineering. Particle emission system is of core priority.
  • ***CLASSIFIED*** location that we had to avoid visiting is to be included in the next itinerary.

As you can see, High Commissar Novikov, “Tselina”-project is advancing rapidly, although major data influx is not on terraforming itself. Yet, I believe that we have the time and other data are of crucial significance as well. The allocated funds and assets are sufficient for further steps.

Hail the Unity of Our People!

With respect,
SCEC CRO Dr. Mstislav Belov
