The Deserter - Diana.Daymarova - 03-04-2018

The room is white and almost completly empty. Paula finds herself standing in it. A vase made of small ice-like crystals was placed in the middle, right in front of her. With a touch, she feels a damp and chilly surface. It's calming. But then, out of nowhere, a warm wind blows.

Paula opens her eyes, but closes them again because the light of the stars was too strong. What an odd dream. Little does she know that it is scarily simmilar to a dream she once had in the hospital. She wants to take off to explore as soon as possible, but her stomach refuses to cooperate. She is really hungry. The bar offers many kinds of food, but Paula doesn't really like any. Although the living quarters are of a high standard, the dining is a misery. This time, she doesn't care about the taste. She hasn't eaten in days.

"Two sausages with bread and mustard, please." This is a rather cheap meal, but unlike others, Paula likes it a little. Bite by bite, the sausage is disappearing. With a glance out of the bar window, she notices a corsair vessel. It is preforming docking manuevers. That concerns her, because she had a few encounters with corsairs before. They weren't really nice. They behaved like bandits to be precise. Paula doesn't know what to expect, so she just sits and waits what is going to happen.

A man slowly walks into the bar, he is dressed rather formal and has a serious look on his face. He glances over the room looking straight into everyone's eyes, almost as if he is reading their thoughts. His eyes swing over a woman eating and is drawn directly back to her. She looks rather lost in her own thoughts as she was chewing away on what lookes to be rather poorly made food.

Just judging by the formal appearance, the man, unlike other corsairs, is polite. This makes Paula feel much safer. But how can she be so certain that he doesn't hide a gun somewhere beneath the fair outfit? You know, never judge people by their look.

She feels insecurity as he lays his look on her, but realises there is nothing much the corsair can do to her even if he's a mean bandit. The bar is full of other people after all. Just exchanging looks feels quite awkward, so Paula nods her head and encourages the corsair to take a seat beside her.

The man sees the woman hinting at him to take a seat, more likely to break the strange look he is giving her than the hopes of company. The man walks over and takes a seat.

Barman! Can I have a double whiskey on ice? He yells only as to make his presence more known in the room

The man looks over the woman again. He clearly sees that she is not from here and that she seems uncomfortable with him there.

What is your name senorita? He asks with a clear voice that shows charisma and clarity

From up close, he appears even more cultivated. The way of his speech sounds convincing and friendly. It's definetly not the typical corsair dialect. Paula swallows the last bit of the sausage in order to make herself able to speak.

"I'm Paula. Paula Kirschner."

The answer sounds calm, not showing any sign of nervosity. Just like she intends it to be. Thirst dries her throat all of sudden. Maybe she could order some water. Nah, water wouldn't be that formal. She doesn't really like whiskey unlike the corsair. Rheinbier perhaps? She originates from rheinland, which is the reason why she finds beer tasty. But that is less formal too. Wine looks like a good choice to her.

"Excuse me. I'd like a glass of rosé, please."

She asks a bypassing barman. With a speed of an eye blink, the bevarages are brought to them. Paula glances at her glass and picks up the courage to question.

"And what is yours?"

The man looks at Paula with curiosity as he still somewhat stares at her just before he grins and replies.

Ray...You can call me Ray. He halts before revealing his last name as to keep it a obvious secret for now.

Ray takes a sip from his drink and savors the taste before he lifts his head and stares into the emptiness of the room

What are you doing out here Paula? Ray still stares with a blank face as he asks Paula with a dry voice

Paula can answer easily. The sole purpose of her presence on Atka is it being her home. However, answering only this is not enough for her. She starts speaking without hesitation.

"I woke up from unconsciousness a few weeks ago. Doctors found out I have an amnesia and treated me in a local hospital."

Paula sips the wine and takes a look outside.

"Well, now I wander around here, explore and mainly search for a source of income. I'm grinding my way up to earn more money for living. I feel like this place suits me best."

She looks outside again. The amnesia is still present and makes her feel so... Empty. Now she is familiar with most of the Sirius sector, but not even her personal life. She now slides her look over the table and curiously asks.

"What about you, Ray?"
