The Office of National Security (ONS) is the national-level intelligence agency of the Republic Liberty under the authority of the Liberty Department of Defense and the Director of National Intelligence. The ONS is responsible for Sirius-wide monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The ONS is also tasked with the protection of Liberty communication networks and information systems as well as the securing of Liberty's wellbeing in all forms. To achieve these goals, the ONS relies on several ways to accomplish its tasks.

History

The origins of the ONS can be traced back to the April 28, 600 A.S. The ONS was supposed to support the primary LSF task forces that were responsible for the interdiction of criminals outside of Liberty. Shortly after, the collapse of Denver Industries lead to the establishment of LPI Sugarland, where the movement known as the Xenos was formed. In the same year, a high number of criminals gathered and formed the pirate movement known as the Liberty Rogues. With the rise of illegal activities the ONS was tasked back to Liberty, where they had the mission to disrupt smuggling convoys and destroy the new rising criminal organizations that formed and leave intelligence objectives to the rest of the LSF. For long the ONS was working alongside the law enforcement and conducted smaller hit and run tactics due to low amount of personnel and budget cuts, eventually leading the dissolvement of the agency. Over 100 years later, in 738 the notorious and highly organized group known as the Lane Hackers was founded by former Ageira employees. Pirate activity rises steadily. Due to the high amount of Cardamine addicts, the body altering, highly addictive drug was declared contraband by the government, leading to a booming smuggling business for pirates. Liberty was forced to spend more of its budget on security and re-founded the ONS to fight against primarily the Lane Hackers, which proved to be a highly dangerous threat due to their technological advancement. In the fear of it spreading amongst the criminals in Liberty, the ONS was responsible for the destruction of the Lane Hacker movement as well as the cardamine market, not knowing where it originated from. The ONS, despite being a smaller office with a dangerous objective, fought against the internal threats of Liberty.

In 800 A.S. the Order of Cincinnatus, otherwise only known as the Order, destroyed the RWK-Donau, a Rheinland cruiser-class warship that was sent on a diplomatic mission to the New York system where Admiral Schultzky was supposed to meet President Jacobi. It was unknown to the Liberty forces that Admiral Schultzky was a slave to the Nomads at that point already and was there for one purpose: to infect President Jacobi and lead to Liberty's downfall. The Order, which has been declared as a terrorist organization, managed to destroy the Donau and eliminate Schultzky before any harm could be done. For the first time in hundred years, the ONS was tasked to gather intelligence about the Order's intentions behind their attacks, despite the public propaganda. With the ongoing conflict, huge budget funds were transferred to the intelligence authorities and the ONS received a lot of new equipment and personnel. The Order's well-placed headquarters prevented an easy outcome of this mission but the ONS Task Force Renegade eventually succeded at breaching through the Omicrons by routing through Alaska, before anyone else. Instead of resulting in a combat with the numerous Order ships they found in a system later known as Omicron Minor, they learned the truth behind the Order's intentions and wanted to report back to the headquarter of the ONS. Their message was only picked up by another team in Alaska, which was closest to Renegade, they delivered the information to the former Director, Isaac Dawinsky, who was unsure whether this was to believe or not, as it could have been lies that the Order sent in the direction to Liberty. Dawinsky never confirmed any alliances between the Order and the ONS but it is rumored that he passed this knowledge and belief onto his following Director.

Eversince the ONS has expanded, the general structure has been split in the following departments to ensure an organized securing of Liberty's interests and prospering.

» Department of Foreign Intelligence and Elimination (DFIE)

Objective: Act behind the lines of the enemy and either eliminate, surveil, interrogate, capture, hack or damage property or personnel of organizations at war with Liberty or the ONS. Maintain a steady flow of information from outside of Liberty to keep the government informed about possible attacks that may risk Liberty's public security.

Modus operandi: Hit-and-run-tactics; Interrogation; Surveillance, Assassination, Hacking

» Department of Internal Conflict Dissolvement (DICD)

Objective: Help the law enforcement, namely the Liberty Police, Incorporated and the Liberty Navy at maintaining the peace and security within Liberty's boarders. Eliminate threats before they can pose a danger to citizens, operatives or public property.

Modus operandi: (Medium-Scale) Assault; Law enforcement

» Department of Wartime Response Actions (DWRA)

Objective: Assist the Liberty Navy with assaulting the Kingdom of Gallia's Royal Navy at the front by utilizing the leased capital ships from our Liberty armed forces.

Modus operandi: (Medium+Large-Scale) Assault

Usable equipment: Guardian; Avenger; Havoc Mk2; Upholder; LNS-Evergreen(Defiant); LNS-Radiance (Archer); LNS-Renegade (Interdictor);

» Department of Civil Surveillance Operations (DCSO)

Objective: Use a given civilian identity to slip under the regular public of Liberty or other regions and surveil the surroundings after possible threats. Gain trust and crucial information amongst criminals and other suspects without being caught.

Modus operandi: Espionage, Undercover surveillance

Director

The Director is the head of the ONS and in charge of all management issues reaching from electing his right hand and the department chiefs to the announcement of new operations. He consults with the President and the government to find new ways of pushing the ONS to the top of Liberty's protection services. As the ONS does not possess enough high classed individuals, all departments are currently under the Director's supervision and authority.

Deputy Director

The Deputy Director is the assistant of the ONS Director. Their job is to replace the Director should they be unavailable at the moment for whatever reason. They act as advisor and secretary and may execute all ranges of orders that the Director permits them to.

Agent-In-Training

The greenhorns of the ONS who passed the necessary tests and met all requirements to begin their career within the ONS, they are to respond to all commands their supervisors give them. At a certain point, an AIT may be promoted to Agent if they have proven their worth to the ONS Directorate.
