Suggestion about the player list... - R.I.P. - 04-23-2018

Figured would make a poll to see how the community feels about this. But over the years i have read so many complaints about smugglers using the player list to avoid interaction, players using the list to shadow log others, and many claiming they seen someone on LRS (Long Range Scanners, aka player list) which to me i feel is metagaming by abusing the player list to claim they seen someone in a system and RP a reason to attack them even though they traveled through the system cloaked. I feel in RP you should not be able to see a ship was somewhere unless you see them on your ship's scanner, or visually see them. I think altering the player list from showing what system players are in would be a solution to a lot of the issues mentioned above. Smugglers would have to take their chances, no one could shadow log someone they dislike anymore. I am not saying remove that side of the player list completely, but maybe alter it to just say "playerx" is in Liberty, Kusari, Borderworlds, Etc. That way players could still see what areas may have a lot more action, but would actually have to fly around in those systems instead of logging onto the closest ship they have parked. Yes they could still do that via a friend saying "Hey log into your LN in New York, we need your help". But it would put a stop to smugglers using the list to see "OH LN, or LPI players are in New York, i better park here and log out until it is clear" They would just see lawfuls are in Liberty, and would not have any clue what system they are in exactly. Idk was just an idea that might help with the abuse of the player list imo.

There are more systems than there are players active at any given time. Actively hindering interaction seems like a really bad idea to me.

Maybe in New York and Penny. Maybe. But in every other system, players need the Player-list.

The entire Server is not Liberty 24/7. Or rather, New York, Texas, California, 24/7, since so many people refuse to fly beyond those three systems.

But many complaints are of people using the player list to avoid/hinder interaction, which this would put a stop to. It is just an idea, not saying it should be for sure, just wanted to see how people felt.

But why would you force them to interact with others?

I know, but may encourage some to finally get out of those systems. This hinders me too in some ways as well. Not saying it is the best idea, but it would stop people from abusing the list.

This would not really force anyone to interact, but would stop them from avoiding it and have to take chances not seeing exactly what systems people are in.

+1, basically we don't need less ways to find interaction with the system count rising and player count dropping.

But in some ways the player list does hinder it too, btw if anyone bothers to notice i voted against changing it myself.

To me just seems a much better solution than removing stuff to create bottlenecks and forcing those who avoid interaction via player list.

I know, but the consensus over the years was that overall the player list does more good than harm and it will remain. The harmful parts are also much rarer and some of them are punishable (constantly hunting someone out of ooRP hatred).
