Debrief at HMS York - Cashew - 05-28-2018

She'd spent a few days onboard HMS Essex, recooperating - rejuvenating. Her captors had been harsh in their treatment and the scars on her body showed it, not to mention the fact she no longer looked like the confident and bold 29 year old she once was. Her face was serious and eyes cold - only her dry humour had somehow survived the ordeal.

She hadn't met Commodore Edmund Steiner before; she pondered on his potential character as the nerves in her stomach began to swirl and tumble, she was escorted to her shuttle. The shuttle looked worn and tired, it'd probably only seen a few years service and it was already bruised and broken. The flank of marines took their positions as Brooks strapped her harness in - it was only a short flight.

HMS York could be seen in the distance and Brooks could hear the pilot in the cockpit.
"This is B-Sierra.4 requesting docking permissions, over"

After she heard the faint muffled response from HMS York, the shuttle proceeded to dock. The hissing of the airlocks greeted Brooks as she was paraded down into the hangar where the Commodore was waiting for her...

Edmund stood in the middle of the hanger bay, his uniform now emblazoned with the new insignia of 'Admiral', was distinctly out of place in the busy Hanger bay. The shuttle that arrived was nothing special, but it's passenger, that was different. Admiral Charlotte Brooks was a name lost to the history of the BAF, or so he thought, he had to pull her service record before he knew anything about her. He was impressed by her history, and by her rapid rise through the ranks, but he would save his final judgement until he met her.

Admiral Brooks... he began in his typically cold manner as she descended from the shuttle Welcome aboard the H.M.S York. I believe we have a few things to discuss.

"Commod-, excuse me, Admiral" She smiled awkwardly whilst thinking of the, soon to be sorry, intelligence officer who had wrongly informed her of Admiral Steiner's rank.

She smiled politely at the Admiral's expressionless face "Indeed, there is much to discuss. But perhaps our conversation is best suited elsewhere, would you agree?"

RE: Debrief at HMS York - Victor Steiner - 05-28-2018

Quite so. I believe this vessel has changed little since your command of it, shall we head to the conference room? it'll almost certainly be warmer than here. he said leading her out of the hanger bay. I understand you have been a guest of the Mollies recently, you have my condolences for their treatment of you. How long have you been away?

She nodded as they began to exit the impressively large hangar. "It's been at least 2 years, if I recall correctly."

She cracked a bad joke to ease the formality between the two, "All that kept me going was the thought off a steamy cup of tea!" She let out a short laugh, then continued: "How is the war? I've not had time to ask for a sitrep since I was administered to the hospital wing after my escape." Her face returned to a solemn nature, she had noticed the especially grave looks on those aboard HMS York, the war can't be going well - she thought.

They arrived just outside the conference room when she had asked about the war, he sighed and placed his hand on the door handle before looking at her with an exhausted look You'd better come in.. he said holding the door open.

The room was fairly standard, two Bretonian flags on poles were in the corners, a holographic projector was in the center of the room, which in turn was ringed by a circular oak table with the middle cut away. The western windows focused on Southampton and the debris field just beyond. He extended a hand to one of the various seats around the table and locked the door behind them before sitting down himself

Not good. Was the answer to her question. Leeds, Tau-31, Planet Harris, Edinburgh, Orkney and Magellan have all fallen. There is a Gallic battle group in Cortez, which the L.N.S Yukon is getting ready to have a show down with and now we hear there is a high concentration of Gallic fighter wings in the debris field just over there he said pointing towards Southampton. Planet Leeds is invaded, I don't know how they're holding out and to top it all off, we've lost our Fleet Admiral. This is the Front line miss Brooks, this vessel represents the Bretonian Front, the Government has been evacuated to Cambridge and a general mobilization order has been issued on New London. However, the Queen has refused to leave the capital, which has done a world of good for moral, but...even then. he stopped talking to catch his breath and gage her reaction to this somewhat appalling state of affairs.

Brooks followed him in. She looked at the Admiral as he explained the situation, it was as bad as she'd thought.

"As you can imagine I have many questions" she said whilst slumping into one of the chairs.

"What has happened to the Fleet Admiral? She was so well last I saw her." Brooks glanced out the windows at the gloomy debris fields of New London, letting out a sigh.

"And how are the fleets coping?"

She looked back towards the Admiral hoping for better news.

Stress related heath problems I'm afraid. This war isn't going well and I fear she cracked. Admiral McIntire now holds Command of the heartland fleets. He cleared his throat before continuing to the second question. Norfolk is busy repulsing the Corsairs and protecting the refugees coming in from New London, as well as maintaining a vigil over Poole. Newcastle is battered and bruised, but not yet broken. The Ark Royal and Macduff are holding the line. Essex is in serious need of a refit and major overhaul, but with the current state of affairs, we can't afford to withdraw her. Harlow is continuing to hold Manchester, supporting the Yukon from our side and guarding Fort Winchester. Finally, you have the York and Suffork, both of which are on front line duty, as I mentioned.

He leaned back into his chair and produced his pipe, which he began to stuff. Fortunately, Rheinland has allowed the Merchant Navy to fly in and pick up supplies from their territories for fair prices. Which has certainly helped, Liberty has allowed the same. The SCRA, Gaians and Mollies have all agreed to a ceasefire until the Gallic threat is taken care of. The Outcasts and Crayterians support us still and tensions with the Red Hessians have declined as of late. Yet the Corsairs still push, and are getting bolder in the south. You may, in your travels, encounter BDM transports within our borders as well, don't worry about them. The government, in all it's wisdom, has allowed them to fly, so long as they aren't escorted by their own fighters. I suspect the SIS had something to do with that. He finally lit his pipe and began puffing away on it while awaiting her response patiently.

"Such a shame, she was a fine leader." She paused for a moment, breathing in the fumes from Steiner's pipe.

"Much has occurred then. I suppose the ceasefires offer some room for re-grouping our forces..."

She projected a hologram map of Bretonia into the convenient gap in the center of the table using the projector. Inspecting the various systems that had fallen she looked back towards the Admiral, looking into his eyes.

"I leave myself wondering, Admiral, where I'll fit in regarding the defence of Bretonia and her allies?" She sat back in her chair.

Here he said using the end of his pipe to point to Newcastle. You are to take command of the Ark Royal and continue the defence of that system. he paused, thinking for a moment You should be aware however that Planet Darlington is outside of your authority, Battleship Grimsby is under Commodore McKinley's command, but the planet itself is held under the SIS. I trust you will take that into account. You have also been demoted from the rank of Admiral back to Commodore, I'm sorry but we need time to assess you and your mental state before we can return you to your previous station. I would advise you get yourself looked at by one of the doctors as well, you'll be given a three day leave pass if you wish. Rest and recuperation is not a bad thing and I dare say you've earned it.
