Samuel Phoenix - Zeltak - 02-09-2009

Introduction - Biography

"My ship... my wealth... my life. All lost, in this single defining moment, all gone, everything. Why me? I have always been reasonable in my deals, always fulfilling guarantees, always had a pleased customer. There are far more unlawful scums smuggling everyday, distributing illegal arms and drugs. Hurting mankind in every shape or form in order to just gain that extra profit. They even scam poor people, they have no sense of morality. Yet, it's me, yes me, who receives the short end of the straw. Thinking of yesterdays-ransack is repulsive... It's disgusting but more importantly it's unfair!"

[color=#FF0000]"Hey you! Keep it quiet there, nobody wants to hear your whining."

"Go to hell you filthy sons of-"

"Don't make me bring out the shock-gun."

"Hmph."

"Yeah that shut you up real good. *Salutes* Officer Johnson!

"I want you to run a background check on that guy, for the time being."

"As you command Officer!"

"Officer Johnson! I have compiled the report sir."

"Excellent."

"Well, shall I let him leave now?"

"No, change of plans, we will detain him for two days and then transfer him to LPI-Huntsville."

"Oh... I see, very well sir."

*A few hours later*

"How can I help you sir?"

"I'm here to visit Samuel Phoenix."

"Unfortunately Mr. Phoenix is not allowed to meet any visitors."

"Why is that? I thought all detainees had the right to receive visitors."

"Hold on, I will speak with the Officer."

"Very well."

*Moments later*

"The Officer has allowed you to visit Mr. Phoenix, but five minute only, not a single second more."

"Jack, is that you?"

"Yes it's me, but I have not come here small talk. It appears you are in deep trouble, heh."

"You don't say. They have charged me for the most ridiculous things ever: Smuggling, avoiding taxes, even dealing with criminal organizations! Does that sound like something I would do Jack?"

"No, none of those things. It's all a bit strange, something isn't right. There is more behind this, I know it is."

"Well let me save your time and spell it out for you: The whole law enforcement in Liberty are corrupt!"

"Aye, they have always been corrupt. But I wouldn't think they would go this low in order to steal money."

"Bah! Sometimes I think they are even worse than those criminals! Of course they would, think about it: It's the perfect crime. They plant false evidence in order to charge me for everything I got. It's no coincidence they picked me. I'm not important enough to be a political problem but still wealthy enough for them to be interested."

"What matters now is that we get you out of here before even worse things happens."

"You are right about that my friend, only one problem: How the hell are we supposed to escape?"

"Hehe, you should known me better by now Phoenix. There are two "Policemen" outside of this office. They will claim to transfer you into a safer prison department. Once we are out we will take a hidden jumphole that leads to the California system. From there you can head to Bretonia space were Liberty jurisdiction can't touch you. But you will have to find a way to earn some money, since any wired money from Liberty can be easily traced."

"This idea is so stupid it might actually work."

"Haha, that's the plan."

Record one – A fresh start

Taking my first steps as a Bounty Hunter… felt a bit frightening, considering my somewhat peaceful life. However, I have never been the man to say no to a challenge.

Having just received my Bounty Hunter card from Sheffield Station, I was now officially allowed to participate and complete missions under their banner. Knowing that the New London system is considered to be the oasis for many traders, I headed my way towards in hope for my first escort mission.

Rummaging through the lanes for any possible work, I soon ended up near Planet New London were a trader by the call sign: "The.Jeweler" required an escort for his last shipment of the day. Our destination was to reach Stokes Mining Station in the Leeds system, a small route but the dangers that laid a head could prove otherwise.

Taking the first trade-lane to Southampton Station we only spotted regular patrols by the Bretonia Police, which I believe relieved me more than the one I was escorting. Any sight of pirates was not shown either near the Leeds Jumpgate and we could jump to the system without struggle. For a second there I committed a stupid act, an act that could be life threatening when working as a Bounty Hunter, thinking that the hazard is over and lowering my guard. Because at this very moment as we were traveling through the trade-lane which connects the Leeds Jumpgate to Planet Leeds, our path was hindered by a group of Mollies. We were outnumbered so I suggested the Trader to find an escape route and take it as fast he could, meanwhile I was trying to buy time:

I had lost one of my guns and the secondary engine was on fire, I desperately crawled my way to Planet Leeds, using a third of the money I had just received from the Trader for vital repairs to my ship. I met up with the Trader at the local bar, where he thanked me immensely for saving his life. I smiled but was unable to speak back, I was still in a state of chock. I couldn’t believe how a simple task such as escorting a trader through one single system could develop into complete chaos. Well... I guess this is the life of a Bounty Hunter.

A lesson learned, never lower your guard.

Record two – The still night

A few days has passed since my first escort mission. I have finally comprehended the aftermath of the shock that spawned during my first enemy encounter. I had travelled all the way to Freeport 9 located inside the Omicron Theta system. This place is like a haven for all the scums in Sirius, but also a safe zone for Bounty Hunters. It was here I came across a passing trader bearing the call sign: "Transport-Nayigama". Due to the increased rate of piracy occurred by the Corsairs in Omega-41 and Omega-47, he needed something to counter with if a problem would ever emerge and I was viewed like a viable choice.

The trader’s destination was Planet Gran Canaria in the Omega-49 system, his shipment contained mostly of engine components and would from Gran Canaria return to Planet Honshu with Deterium. However, he would only pay me through the route to Omega-49 and back to Omicron Theta, seeing that he would handle things on his own beyond that.

We plotted our course towards the Omega-41 Jumphole and initiated the designated trade route. I was very scared, as this very well could be my last mission. If the Corsairs’ didn’t kill me, the radiation would. Fortunately the Trader recognized my lack of hull armor and provided me with an Armor Uppgrade II, which would be compensated by a smaller reward. That armor upgrade surely provided me with comfort, but there it wouldn’t help against a band of Corsairs.

To my surprise our long and stressful journey to Omega-49 gave us not even a single sight of trouble. The Trader was as surprised as I was, he expected at least someone to try assault his vessel. Our trip back, again… no one, I mean not even Zoners showed up on our scanners. It was as if Sirius and its populace had ceased to exist, like everything was set to motionless except for me and the Trader.

Regardless, I received a small reward for the task and the Armor Uppgrade II.

A still night in its purest form.

Record three The convoy

Continuing my journey inside the Borderworlds I found a Jumphole that lead to the Sigma-13 system. Dodging the explosive gas pockets, I finally reached a trade-lane and I ended up near Gas Miner Naha. It was from here I could observe over seven transports flying relentlessly towards the same point. I didnt know where their destination was, but surely this amount of numbers prove this to be one of those "hotspots" the Bounty Hunter Guild were whispering about. As I followed I found that they were reaching for a Jumphole that lead to the New Berlin system, the very heart of Rheinland. I also noticed that all of the transports were carrying Niobium metal. What I learned during my training course to become a Bounty Hunter was that if you find a hotspot for traders, you will also find a hotspot for pirates. It couldnt have been truer: Corsairs, Outcasts, Blood Dragons, you name it they were also there in Sigma-13 system.

I found a group of Traders tagged [DEA] sitting near the New Berlin Planet. Their convoy-leader [DEA]WindRunner was complaining that they cant progress with their shipments due to Pirates sitting at the other door. I offered my services and these witty traders came up with an idea: My job was to jump over to the Sigma-13 system and annoy these Pirates in order to provoke them to engage. Then I would fly towards the Frankfurt Jumpgate and message the trade leader of the convoy that (were waiting on the other side of the Sigma-13 Jumphole) to fly as fast as they can to Honshu system. In short I was going to risk my life as a bait.

Though I was near to almost be destroyed by a Cannonball fired from one of the Corsairs, I somehow managed to escape and during the time wasted for these unfortunate scums, the Trade convoy had managed to reach New Tokyo. I was very satisfied, not that the mission was successful, but that I was given one-million-credits!!!
