Counterintelligence is a powerful tool in today's warfare. Arguably the strongest non-direct way of getting advantage in a war is through spying and deceiving the enemy. The latter is exactly what happened in Newcastle - Gallia sent false intel with low encryption that they're moving their fleet from Tau-31 and Leeds to Newcastle to strike Bretonian stations around Carlisle. Bretonia took the bait and immediately sent a fleet to respond. Liberty was quick on the call as the intel gave enough time to prepare and they came to Bretonia's aid.

However, as they got there they realized the intel was incorrect and they were played out. Assuming the worst, they immediately went back to defend the most important point - Planet New London. This went directly hand-in-hand with Gallia's plans, who not only planned the ambush but also called in Corsairs to help them out. Allies' fleet jumped to New London and immediately realised what's up. Gallia and Corsairs attacked them, out of position and far from friendly bases, and a massive battle arose.
