History

Sebastian's entire family history is wrapped up in the Alster Union. His great grandparents were blue-collar ship builders during the 80 Years War, and laid off from Alster Shipyard when it concluded. For three generations, the Wolff family has lent its technical expertise to the benefit of the Alster Union, in defense of the blue collar people of Rheinland. His parents, until recently, continued that tradition as ship designers at the Leipheim Base in Munich.

Sebastian's entire childhood was filled with stories of his family's responsibility to the Union, and his parents' interpretation of the Union's two primary goals: to ensure safe working conditions and fair wages for all Rheinlanders, and to use their technology skills to empower all those oppressed by the corporations to stand up for themselves. On top of that, in August 825 A.S., he watched his older brother, Hunter, leave home and become a pilot with the Union to support those ideals.

Living life on Leipheim Base was both a blessing and a curse for Sebastian. He was educated by his mother, who insisted on well-rounded subjects, despite his father's desire for him to focus on ship design like him. Emilia spent time making sure her sons knew about art, literature and music. She imparted on both of her chlidren an appreciation for the world around them, a curiosity about the universe, a deep sense of faith and trust in others. She protected them from some of the less savory history of the Union, perhaps to their detriment.

The other defining thing in Sebastian's life has been the relationship with his older brother. Despite the six years between them, they have been incredibly close for as long as the younger Wolff sibling can remember. Having always idolized and tried to follow his older brother's example, Sebastian was both proud and sad to watch Hunter leave to take on Union responsibilities elsewhere. They kept in close contact, sending comms back and forth constantly throughout Hunter's service. However, the nature of those communications recently changed.

Before they stopped suddenly, Hunter's communications were becoming erratic, emotional and paranoid. Worried for his brother, Sebastian attempted to calm him and find out more about what was going on. He knew that Hunter's faith in the Union's leadership was being shaken, and learned about his brother's participation in some attacks which their parents had shielded from him. In his second-to-last communication with Hunter, Sebastian was given contacts and directions to escape from Leipheim if ever Hunter stopped reaching out to him. Less than two weeks later, Hunter was not heard from again.

Following his brother's final wishes, Sebastian worked with a long-time family friend, Niklas Lehmann, to steal an old Ragnar-class freighter from the base. In the scuffle to escape, Dieter Wolff, the boys' father, was killed, as was Hunter's former girlfriend, Klara Fischer. However, Sebastian, his mother Emilia, Niklas and his wife, Hannah, were able to escape. Additionally, Sebastian's boyfriend, Thomas Keller, insisted on accompanying him. Now, they have nowhere to go and no resources, just the freighter and its hold for protection, while Sebastian tries to find out what happened to his brother.
