When were jumpgates developed? - swift - 02-17-2009

Well, some time ago a rather huge idea came to my mind, about a certain story, but the crucial element for it's justification of existence is the date of the invention of jump gate technology.

So when was it?

130 First prototype Jump Gate is tested successfully in Texas.

Thank you. Now I know. Hmm.. It'd suit me more if it happened a bit later.. but it's good either way. Who am I to question FL history?:)

So tell me, what would be the latest date possible in which a faction capable of launching a small amount of settlers without yet knowing jumpgate technology?
I ask cause I'd want to make it a bit later than 130.

You see, cause it's a prototype gate, I don't see Liberty giving it up too soon.. So other houses like Kusari, for instance, would gain access to the tech years later.

I'd say somewhere around 170-180. Gives Liberty enough time to refine the tech, but not enough for the other houses to have finished their own versions.

Hmm okay. Thanks for the answers then. I won't discuss this further, lest I reveal what my story will be about.:P

180 First test of a full-scale jump gate between Texas and Alaska is conducted.
185 In a ceremony that is broadcast throughout the Sirius sector, Liberty unveils the jump gate project to the public. Almost immediately, inquiries from the other houses concerning terms for the purchase of this technology begin pouring in.

The Liberty backstory tells all about the Jumpgates.

Swift, if you want lost colonists, go for pre-jumpgate times. They still had colony and exploration and all sorts of ships that were travelling to and fro from the newly colonised systems, or exploring new ones etc. Bound to be some that failed or were lost etc.
Oddly enough, this is exactly the same story I am developing atm.

Yeah, that is why I asked, Linkus, to know when to place them.

Oh and, I'll write mine, you write yours, and once it's done, and if they have the same thing in their objective, why don't we merge the beasts?

Anyways, what the point of my story would be, well not the point, but an important characteristic, is the fact that the jumphole they used to get to the system they colonized fell out of alignment and collapsed, only to either be re-aligned/ or the colonists find an alternative route out of the system.

An isolation thing you see.
It will most likely stay a story only, due to the magnitude of it all, but who knows I might put it into gear one day.

The Coalition had both jumpgates and cloaking technology which could hide whole fleets... in Starlancer.

So, the answer is 'nearly 1000 years ago'.

I should really play starlancer... As much as I know freelancer roleplay backwards I'd quite like to go back a little distance and get some idea of how it all started. I have heard it's even more stereotyped than FL, but frnakly I didn't think that was possible.

Seems that with the exodus to sirius a huge amount of technology was lost.
