I suggest reading the rules, and asking many questions.
Also, I suggest that you, after a period of adjustment and discovering, find yourself a faction you want to be a part of. It enhances the game experience a lot.
Also, don't get discouraged by any oorp in NY you might meet, cause neither NY nor Sirius is mostly like that. There's plenty of RP to go around.
