Announcement of Server Transfer - Xalrok - 02-04-2019 As of 03/02/2019 DiscoveryGC is under new management with @Xalrok and the Department Heads of the Development Team. Both the game and web server have been moved and are now under new ownership. We have made the transition as smooth as possible from a user’s perspective. You won’t notice much has changed. The new game and forum server are under the same hosts and located in the same countries, so there should be no change in anyone’s ping or connectivity. The launcher has been updated to redirect to the IP of the new game server. Our reasons for the transfer of the server are the following: • We went to the admin team, who believe they should be entitled to oversight over Discovery’s other staff groups, with concerns and evidence of potential misconduct within their organization and it was brushed off immediately. Our concerns regarding the conduct of one of their former members were dismissed out of hand by the administration, including the evidence provided. • The admin team revoked my access to the server, which prevented the dev team from patching the server. Not only did this prevent new updates from being implemented, it also meant configs related to gameplay like mining could not be edited and bugs could not be fixed. • Also because of the above, we no longer had the tools necessary to run critical story events that would require advanced features like spawning POBs and special equipment and ships. • If the administration will not even consider policing their own, then something is very wrong. The Administration team is being integrated into the development team as the GM Team, or Game Master team. The purpose of this is to prevent future interdepartmental conflict from occurring ever again. We find it illogical that an external team which does not participate in the development of the mod and is entirely selected from forum moderators would have authority over the team that is responsible for the mod’s existence and development. The Moderation team is welcome to remain onboard as is. It is likely that we will look to existing moderators as first line choices for additional GMs should the turnover rate of the previous administration prove to be high. Other potential candidates include fresh blood from outside the current staff entirely. More on this to come as things begin to calm down. Because we are aware of historical concerns regarding the security of user data that have been recently brought up again, we have been working on a new and comprehensive Terms of Service agreement to bring Discovery into GDPR compliance, and further work is underway to upgrade our software to comply with this regulation. It’s our hope that with this situation behind us, we can now move forward in delivering the significant backlog of content and bug fixes which have accumulated over the past month, and finally conclude the Gallic War arc once and for all. We have a lot of very cool stuff planned over the days and weeks to come, and we want to you all there to see it happen. Sincerely, The Discovery Development Team RE: Announcement of Server Transfer - Sombs - 02-04-2019 Does the kindergarten show end now finally? RE: Announcement of Server Transfer - Banned player t202085 - 02-04-2019 I was about to say the terms and service looked copied rather than actually made to fit Disco. you don't need a huge doc to be compliant. The word Copyright is mentioned 10 times in the TOS have you actually registered any content https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/register/usa_registrations RE: Announcement of Server Transfer - realekki - 02-04-2019 looks like that at least a post of mine didnt survive the movement :-( RE: Announcement of Server Transfer - Banned player t202085 - 02-04-2019 (02-04-2019, 12:50 AM)Xalrok Wrote: As of 03/02/2019 DiscoveryGC is under new management with @Xalrok Is this not just swapping one dictator for another? the only way to actually negate the same shit happening again is to have a third non involved party host and manage it for you. RE: Announcement of Server Transfer - Karst - 02-04-2019 Y'all got a backup of the forums that's more recent than the one you've reloaded? RE: Announcement of Server Transfer - Tenacity - 02-04-2019 Things are better off in the hands of the developers. Admin corruption has been around for as long as I can remember, way back to <2007 and probably prior. People get in as admins, and they start doing shady crap behind the scenes, it leads to this kind of drama when they're found out and then we have a huge mess on everyone's hands. |
