Ouroboros Research Log - Mobius64 - 03-28-2019 Research Log of the Ouroboros Log Entry: 00001 Date: 2803826 This is Alistair Sudrey. I am an independent researcher, and a graduate of Cambridge University. Well, independent to some degree anyway. I am flying the research vessel Ouroboros in search of a Katherine Pennybrooke (ID: RV-Pennybrooke). Of course, I am will conduct exploratory research during my search, but the mission's primary objective is tracking down Pennybrooke. My cousin, Alexander Sudrey, brought up an incident during when the Sudrey's last gathered. I have attached an extract his log for the benefit of anyone reviewing this report. Despite my cousin's relaxed attitude, this is a pressing concern. He failed to obtain any photographic or data evidence, however I have no reason to doubt his word. I had heard the name Pennybrooke batted around certain circles in Cambridge, of course. But I believe it to be of utmost importance that she is found and questioned on what business she is conducting with the Nomads. After I secured the appropriate amount of credits from the Fund, I made my way first to Omicron Theta, were Sandy had sighted her and the Nomad ship. I had originally planned to secured a E78-12 Spatial, however it seemed more prudent to opt for the XDS-2 Voyager. I christened the ship Ouroboros and began my search. Omicron Theta (ΟΘ) I first covered the known locations of O-Theta. The Zoners were particularly helpful in providing the landmarks of the system. However, I failed to find any trace of her or a significant Nomad presence. Instead, I moved to O-Kappa, where Sandy had theorised that Pennybrooke and the Nomad may have been heading next. Omicron Kappa (ΟΚ) O-Kappa was a beautiful system. I had heard of the sights that might be seen this far from House Space, but it was hard to just quite comprehend it myself. And of course, I had heard the stories of the Gammu AI. I identified one vessel that was engaged in combat, however thought better of trying to directly communicate with it. Perhaps in future I should return and attempt to question the Gammu AI. It would satisfy my own curisotity about them, at least. I have attached evidence of my sighting here. My first port of call in O-Kappa was Corinth Research Station. The Zoner researchers there were unable to confirm any sighting of Pennybrooke, although they had heard the same rumours of her as I had. I was able to secure a few valuable contacts during my stay. I was aided in repairing and resupplying my ship, and I took part in an experiment to modify my IFF. It was thought we could jury rig my IFF to broadcast as friendly to the Gammu AI. It would certainly make my exploration safer. Despite the time and cost to conduct the experiment, it unfortunatly failed and the AI was able to see through our ruse. Thankfully they did not find me threatening enough to attack. Omicron Chi (ΟΧ) The Zoners of Corinth had provided me also with information of a high concentration of Nomads in the O-Chi system. Here I made several discoveries. Firstly, of the existence of a Nomad minefield. The mines were of a powerful yield, however had a poor range. They were able to disable my shields almost instantly, however required me to come almost within touching distance. My thoughts were that they were laid with the intention of keeping out capital ships. I was able to slip and navigate throught the minefield, however. Within the minefield, I discovered the location of a vast complex of Nomad construction. I was unable to gather data on the structure for fear of being obliterated, however I have attached a record of the encounter. The location of the minefield and Nomad complex are recorded here. I made call at the Johnson Supply Base to further inquire about the location of Pennybrooke. I was unable to pin her down with the information I gathered, however I was made aware of the Nomad presence in O-Delta. I made course for the approximate location of the jump hole. Omicron Delta (ΟΔ) O-Delta was another stunning locale that I was not prepared for. However, the presence of Nomads made it increadibly dangerous. I was thankful for the Core who occupied a significant portion of the territories. I was able to uncover two further objects of interest. These were the a Nomad complex, perhaps the location of Nomad battleship construction or something similar? The second was a gigantic rock like structure. I can only guess at to what its purpose is, however I feel as if it is connected to the Azurite gases that were detected on sensors. The location of these installations and evidence of their existence are attached here, however I was unable to obtain evidence of the Nomad Complex here. I was also unable to conduct any readings on either the objects, due to both the nature of the Palau Ice Cloud and the presence of Nomads. If I am unable to find any further leads of Pennybrooke in the Core's territory, I will return to these locations to find out more. For now I will rest at Yaren Station and plan for the next stage of research. RE: Ouroboros Research Log - Mobius64 - 03-30-2019 Research Log of the Ouroboros Log Entry: 00002 Date: 3003826 Perhaps I was wrong to come out here alone. Or come here at all. Yesterday I had been back and forth to the Nomad constructs, slowly trying to get closer or approach them from different angles. I'm still no closer to a conclusion as to their nature, but that probably shows more about my own inexperience than the impenetrable mysteries of the Nomads. I've once again berthed the Ouroboros in O-Delta, although this time it is at the Freeport. I think I will decide on what is next for a few days before I take the ship out again. Or perhaps I am letting that Zoner get into my head more than I should. Och, who knows. For the benefit of the record, I was approaching the rock construct once again today. I was fortunate enough to encounter another Freelancer. He claimed to have gotten lost, and I have no reason to doubt his word. He was mining in the area, hoping to make enough to ensure his safe travel back to more friendlier space. Of course, I asked him about Pennybrooke and told him my reason for looking. We were, however, joined by a Zoner patrol. We were questioned - as is their right, of course. When I told the Zoner about the nature of my mission here in the Omicrons - to find Pennybrooke - he became right... cagey? Defensive? I'm not sure, but he wasn't for helping. Although I appreciate his warnings, his words have stuck with me more than they maybe should? 'Classified,' he had said. It seems like I am not the first person to go looking for Pennybrooke. And it seems the Zoners, in Delta at least, have her on their sensors already. Of course they would, it would be silly to think they wouldn't. Maybe I was hoping that I would be the one to find her. Maybe it's the space getting to me. In all honesty, I am thinking of packing it in. I'm not sure how I could return to the Clan now, after the investment we have put in the mission. Although it doesn't seem like it was our place. The Zoners have a thousand times the resources that we could ever have. My leads are dead and cold, and it didn't seem like the Zoners are going to help. I could contact their leader at the Freeport, perhaps? But, I suppose, what would be the point. Ocht, that's probably enough for now. I don't think any of the Sudreys are in any good shape right now. I had heard that Sandy was ambushed in Leeds by a squadron of Gallic fighters and a gunboat. He said he had just found the LRF as well. Heard his ship was pretty roughed up. Robert and Malcolm are making money in Liberty, of course. But then again, when are they not? He told me that a bunch of Lanehackers and Rogues were sitting outside Manhattan while an LPI gunboat waited for back up. Made it sound as if Liberty was being run by that lot. Anyway, that's will do for tonight. |
