Have been considering with trying this mod out, but... (Update) - ARWINGx1 - 04-27-2019

(This is an update, which would also be an alternative to what I originally asked about) https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=169313

There was one other alternative career I was aiming for, I wanted to be a Mercenary... (and later on, when I find a Player Group/"Faction" that I feel comfortable staying with, Cargo Ship Security)

Because although Combat can be fun, and that PvP (Generally) have the potential, I also wanted to put that experience to good use, and one of the things I'd probably prefer, is by helping someone.

HOWEVER! The "issue" was that I felt like I'd be no good to anyone at the beginning, such as that in a random scenario, while escorting a transport, and are attacked by Pirates, I'd be the first casualty, after up to 30 secs. And that would also prevent others from being willing to "waste" their time training me. Which is also worsened with that having an odd, hard-to-get-over habit of being skeptical, at least when the one giving the advice's still considered a stranger.

As for ship "weight classes", by default, although a "Medium-Heavy Fighter" generally sounded cool to me, I would guess that "Medium-Light Fighter"'s more my kind, as I imagine that with enough experience, I would want the ship to "tank" a small amount of damage, while dodging most of them. Though I'd still experiment until I find one that works out for me

You can always just fight in conn to not drag anyone down and get used to different things.

That is an arena kind of system outside of the rp environment.

RE: Have been considering with trying this mod out, but... (Update) - Sombs - 04-27-2019

Snubs are easy to survive in, but the majority of people plays snubs and the skill gap couldn't be higher of any class. Gunboats and cruisers are easy to fly and easy-ish to master, as the golden rule is to stay at maximum fire range or go full in the moment you can outtank the enemy. Battleships however are the five-minutes-of-fun class if you are a beginner. You are absolutely required to have any kind of support because you will always be the slowest and biggest target on the battlefield and you can't thrust, neither can you CD any enemies (except with missiles, which are not like CDs).

If you feel like you are not that good in snubs and don't want to train all the time in Conn or watch videos and read tutorials to get better, you can just get a gunboat, trade to get a CAU-8, put some Solaris and Missiles on your ship and everyone will think twice about fighting you. A dangerous presence is often a good way to intimidate the enemy.

The only way of getting better, however, is trying, trying and trying over and over again. Adapt and overcome. Remember it is just a game and you can explode.

Gunboats/Cruiser may not be as easy for me, 'cause when testing and experimenting in Singleplayer, I preferred to engage at close range. At least with these Snubs.

In Singleplayer, you can't zoom out. In Multiplayer, capital ships can zoom out in turret steering mode. So you control your ship with the arrow keys and rotate the view with the cursor/mouseflight while keeping the right mouse key on the enemy. That way your gunboat/cruiser/battleship/freighter/transport fires at the target regardless of where you are flying.

Ah. Though I have also been thinking that "for the future", I'd aim at being in command of a a small Skirmish Team, (easier to manage a few players simultaneously) and unless they're rare, what class of Cap. Ship are common among those Captains?

Eh, the server is full of people that lead factions. They all struggle at finding people that join their cause. I'd refrain from trying something on your own. Try joining a few factions and look at how they deal with things and player management.

Every person here has different gameplay preferences. I, for example, fight only in Battleships. That's my forté. Other people play preferably in snubs, most in Very Heavy Fighters, some rather in Light FIghters. Many other people prefer cruisers and battlecruisers because they are the perfect ships to play alone but also contribute very well in group fights. Discovery really is all about trying out different things until you know what you like the most.

All of above posts are useless.

There are 2 type of pirates : Pro and Not Pro. there is no medium etc.

So if there is some random pro pirate around , NO one can simply defend SHIT . Because some Specific pirates tend to do strange magic Avoiding all the incoming fire.

as matter of fact , Escorts just survive in movies.

Disco is not balanced for such task , and it should not be cuz In real life space combat you cannot get such safe Method to survive each time!

Sadly On the Other hand ,there is No Cure for a disease named : Abuse

humans simply abuse the shit out of everything to enjoy their moment.

during all of these years lolwutts were here and there also players hacking the game as well.

So... Best thing is to gain man power and Gank the shit out of the hostile .

Or Join them

Or try to Be smart and game the system by checking player count, logins log off etc....

Or Simply suffer from it. (some may rage and fade away and some just roam around till 2 hour rule ends)
