#002 Appearance - Scars of the Past
Height: 185.3cm
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Green
Distinguishing Marks: Slight burns across right cheek.

Stuart carries the toll of Royal Flush on his body as much as his mind. Plasma burns from close-range fire on the ground still scar the entire right-hand side of his face. Despite the best efforts of Navy corpsmen, the close quarters battle he endured with several Gallic foot soldiers has left faint marks up and down his chest. Since his induction into the Force, however, very few outside have seen much of him - something that is perhaps his own conscious decision, in order to focus the matter on the task at hand rather than the scars of the past.

#003 Personality - A Hardened Heart
For everything that changed for Stuart between his old life and now, his outward attitude has largely remained the same. Sergeant Stuart was a by-the-book, get-it-done marine, largely a blank slate for the military machine in much the same way as his brothers and sisters. He secretly hated those long, boring patrols, and held great anxieties over those long range actions outside the wire - but there was never a moment when he publicly doubted or disobeyed.

Agent 'Veritas' is much the same man. Internal Affairs is not a position that allows flippancy or subjective feeling, especially after the Nomad War and the purges that came along with it. A large portion of his job description involves looking over his friends and colleagues with a fine-tooth comb, lest the entirety of the House be at stake. Whatever anxieties, frustrations, or misgivings he might have within the Force, he can't dare display them. That isn't to say he isn't quick to criticize or appreciate the actions and plans of those outside the Force, but anything internal will leave him but a cold, unforgiving slab.

#004 History - An Ongoing Fight
Stuart was born into the poverty that many Libertonians of prewar era Liberty understood well. His family drifted from spaceport to spaceport, taking the odd job here and there to keep themselves renting for the next month or two. Stuart could never attend a proper education, but he made sure to be as well-read as he could while they drifted between homes. By the time he was eight, the Nomad War had begun and ended in a flash - and the result, while devastating perhaps to the House militaries and the bleak future of the galaxy, was a net boon for the manufacturers of Houston. Ship and equipment contracts flew through the market, and for once, their whole family - including eventually Ian himself - had stable, reliable jobs working there.

But by the time Stuart was about to reach adulthood, the contracts dried up, and both of his parents suffered directly from the massive layoffs that struck Houston's job market. As he saw his friends languish in poverty, resorting to petty theft or even deciding to fight for an economic revolution, Stuart instead decided he would revive the long-lost legacy in his family, and ultimately joined up with the Libertonian Marine Corps. While his parents weren't particularly interested in seeing him sell his life to the House that had only caused them trouble, their financial failure left them little room to argue.

Two months after signing himself away, Private First Class Stuart found himself a fully-fledged marine, performing interdiction operations aboard the LNS Iroquois in Colorado. The next few months slipped away in a haze for Stuart as they repeatedly tracked down and cracked open smuggling vessels like tin cans. It didn't take long for Stuart to adjust to the rigor and shock of high-velocity assault boarding, and as such his team leader recommended him to be enrolled in reconnaissance courses. Shipping off back to Colorado for reconnaissance training, he quickly found out that what he had signed up for was a bit more involved.

Recon, as it turns out, was quite often done by excessive force in the Liberty Marine Corps, and the 1st Recon Battalion's latest Lance Corporal Stuart was now committed to a tempo and velocity of boarding and interdiction far beyond what the standard marine divisions had done. By the time he broke the famed Terminal Lance syndrome, he was three years older and three years wiser in combat. Corner-checking and accuracy-by-volume were tools in his belt, now, and the jovial shoproom worker had become a well-tooled killing machine of the Liberty state. He had started to long for action beyond the standard check-and-rinse of the cardamine and artifact smugglers that beset Liberty from all sides, and the universe was happy to oblige.

When Gallia burst from the seeming heavens and stabbed into the heart of Bretonia, Stuart felt the pains of sorrow and the desire for revenge. His family had been Libertonian for a century now, but many of his ancestors - and current relatives - were Bretonian, going all the way back to the Bretonia herself. That desire for revenge would not go unsated for long - within the year then-Fleet Admiral Davies signed off on the historic Operation Royal Flush, and the entire 1st Marine Expeditionary Force - including his own unit, the 1st MARDIV - would be headed planetside to Leeds, where the fighting was thick and fierce. Stuart had trained for planetside combat, sure, but much of his career had been spent in ship-side interdiction and shootouts with pirates. Now, his enemy wasn't a drugged up spacer with a flashy toy, but a trained military menace that had seethed with anger for a half-millenium.

To the Navy and Marine Corps' end, that now-Sergeant Stuart, filled with the desire to bring vengeance to Bretonia and to defend his homes, died planetside. He was last seen working with the 1st Recon Btn. at Point Channel, outside Wilkinson City, having saved the heavily-wounded crash victim Commander John Graham. However, Graham's saviors were also his - LSF forces that had been deployed planetside to conduct reconnaissance and counter-intelligence, and had become much too ingrained in the actual street-to-street fighting. Taking their unmarked vessel out of the city just before it fell entirely to Gallic occupation, the heavily wounded Sergeant was given the option to retire in peace as a broken Marine, or take up a new identity and role as an Agent of the Security Force. Without a moment's hesitation, he accepted.

After months of rehabilitation and training, Agent 'Veritas' entered service with the auxiliary Security Force, working what was essentially a desk job at their listening and surveillance post on Erie. His effective work there was mostly a plea for reassignment, and soon he found himself with a granted wish, now travelling behind enemy lines to meet with representatives of the Gallic Council, a government seeking to overthrow the militant Gauls. He happily met with both them and other embedded intelligence officers, exchanging the latest information from Gallia proper and bringing it back to Liberty. His service awarded him a one-month 'vacation job' as a desk officer at LA's LSF bureau, essentially a nothing position where he could go over the data he'd collected with his superiors remotely. Nearing the end of his service, he found himself at the front anyway - as a Gallic saboteur following him set off a bomb at his office.

'Veritas' took several more months to return to form after the attack, grateful for the defensive measures of his office that kept him from dying outright. During his return, now as a full-time Homeland Security officer at the Los Angeles office, he slowly identified and collected information on seven of his twenty-two colleagues that had loose ties or had outright collaboration with the Gallic forces. Submitting this detail in private to the LSF directorate especially, they returned his report three months later with an invitation to the Security Force's central bureau, a promotion to Senior Agent, and a transfer to the department of Internal Affairs. Ever since, 'Veritas' has dedicated himself to his new job with a certain purpose, hoping to fight this war in the shadows as effectively as he once did on the ground, and hopefully keeping the war away from his home in the process.
