Question about Ports - onca - 09-28-2006 Hi folks, here's one I hope is simple. My firewall is continually blocking intruders.... cool that's what its supposed to do. But many intruders seem to be probing UDP ports 2302-2304, which for the unitiated are the Freelancer MP server ports. BTW I'm not running a server, just playing client on Discovery. My question is should I be allowing access thru these ports? Could it be causing lag/slowdown if they're blocked? I wouldn't think so, but.......... o. Question about Ports - McNeo - 09-30-2006 If it always lags when you log on to the server straightaway, then i suggest opening the ports from your firewall. However, if thats not the case, i suggest leaving them closed by your firewall. I have been told that there are 65252 or a similar amount of ports so 2 ports shouldnt really be a problem :D Question about Ports - Wolfpack98 - 09-30-2006 McNeo,Sep 30 2006, 07:55 AM Wrote:I have been told that there are 65252 or a similar amount of ports so 2 ports shouldnt really be a problem :D Nope. There's an unlimited number of ports available. I've once set my router's web interface to port 8833445577 once. It was funnier than hell, but it worked. most idiots wanting to port-scan you can't go that high on their counting :) Question about Ports - McNeo - 09-30-2006 Thats just ridiculous port number  Question about Ports - Wolfpack98 - 09-30-2006 McNeo,Sep 30 2006, 11:14 AM Wrote:Thats just ridiculous port number  hehe.. That was kinda the point. The more ridiculous, the harder for port scanners. I tried to port scan the box from my local machine going up to that number. it seg faulted on me once it hit port 65524 |
