Logs of LR-Base.Race - How Leo Nine got lost - RockCrystal - 07-10-2019 7/8/826 AS: 10:47 Ohhhh man, my head. Got waaay too drunk at the Heart Thorne last night. Last thing I remember is thinking this post on the job board looked good. Then I wake up in this piece of crap Jackal (Where the hell did I get a Jackal in Galileo? Ship dealer won't even sell them up here...That's how crap they are) with Base Race painted on the side. Did I enter a race? The hell? Gotta figure out what I was looking at on the job board. 11:33 ...Hump me sideways. Wasn't too hard to figure out once I turned on the Neural Net in this steaming pile of a ship. Had a note from Underboss Brooke in my messages. 'Accepted. Don't screw up, or you're dead meat.' Had the job I took on attached. I need to get a blazing Base Constructor to TNF, with all the bits and pieces it needs to do its thing. Bloody hell. At least the job doesn't have a time limit. I'll ask my Junker buddy Joe on Rochester. Maybe he's got one in his salvage yard. 12:10 Wow. OK, the Jackal may have paper thin armor and guns that wouldn't tickle a sleeping LPI desk sergeant, but DAMN it's quick. I think I overtook a ship in the Rio>Pueblo lane on the way down to Rochester. 14:22 Had to threaten to hit Joe before he stopped laughing at me. May have been a bad idea. He didn't have one in stock, and says none of his Junker buddies will have one either. Bastard. Told me if I wanted one so bad, to steal one from Texas. After I just got out of the slammer last month. With half the cops down there probably still looking for me. Thanks a ton, Joe. He did shout something after me. Think he said 'Or get one off the Order'? Well... It's not like I have any other leads worth a damn. All I know about the Order is they show up in Liberty every so often hunting... Something, then piss off before the Navy gets there. Never heard of them having bases in any of the houses. Huh. Well, if there's one group of smarmy, pacifist dirtbags who know where everything is, it's the Zoners. I should know that better than anyone. Wonder if Ames still has me on their 'Do not dock' list... 17:57 PAYDIRT. I found an Outcast pirating ships in Kepler and had a nice long talk with him. Didn't even need to dock at Ames, they can kiss the fattest, grungiest part of my... Anyway. The 'Cast said the Order hangs out in a system called 'Omicron Moo'. Dumb name, but at least it's easy to remember. He also said I could get there through... damn. Toe-Hockey? Toe-Hokum? Friggin Kusari names... He also said I could get there through Alaska. LAWL. What is it with people giving me dumb ideas today? Sure, lemme just go through the most heavily fortified system in all Liberty on an errand to grab a ship. Thanks. A. Ton. Welp. On to Kusari. At least after all these years I can say 'Shikoku' without breaking my teeth on it. 18:38 Ooooh, 'Golden Dragon Casino'? This wasn't here 8 years ago... 20:04 Aaaaaaand now I'm broke. At least I got a room for the night before I put everything on red. Should have stuck to cards, I bet the damn table was rigged... RE: Logs of LR-Base.Race - How Leo Nine got lost - RockCrystal - 07-10-2019 7/9/826 AS. 08:34 Okay, not quite broke. I had enough in my pocket to get breakfast, and a bribe to the morning bartender. On top of the bribe I paid for them to let me dock. And the bribe I paid to let me onto the damn casino floor. I hate Hogosha. Anyway. The bribe got me, what he -claimed- was 'A full map of the fabulous Jump Holes of Kusari'. Yeah, just one problem - everything's labeled in damn Kusari too! Hump me running... Well. At least I know these first two jumps from running Cardi up this way. The one in this system goes to Kay-oo-shoe, and there's one right next to the exit that goes to New Tokyo. From there... well, there's only two others in that system. I'll try em both. 11:19 I hate Kusari. I haaaaate Kusari. There was a damn cop on the other side of the jump hole in New Tokyo. Just waiting for me in the middle of nowhere like he had nothing better to do. ...Or was he a cop? I don't remember the cops around here having a funny name like 'Kem-Pay-Tay'. Well, whoever he was, he wasn't as fast as this damn... ship. I made like I was going for the southern hole, then switched north once he was out of scan range. Hopefully that gets rid of him. And hopefully this is the right damn hole... 13:24 PAYDIRT AGAIN. I bumped into a GC girl chasing a trader. I mostly let her do her thing, but I ran ahead and disrupted the lane rings for her. Ain't I a nice guy like that? Heh. Trader deserved it, it was the kind that may as well have been piloted by a robot. No comms, just some half measure evasion till he died. Anyway, while she was waiting for a transport to come and collect all that Neon, we had a nice little chat. Turns out, Toe-hoe-Koo was right there, and she not only showed me the right jumphole, she led me all the way through to the next one! She told her superior she was 'Escorting me out of Kusari Space' but I could tell. She's into me. Told her she could look me up on Padua anytime she wanted. Anyway. Apparantly this next system is Omicron Sigmund (Not Moo), but I feel it. I'm getting close man. Here we go... 13:26 (String of expletives) BLACK HOLE (More expletives) I'M SO (More expletives) 13:33 Okay. Okay. Keep it together Leo... How the hell does this place work? Shouldn't everything be sucked right down into... don't look at it, don't think about it. Anyway. There's a planet up ahead. Gotta be some way outta here, right? ... Right? 14:03 Followed a trail of debris from the planet into a nearby cloud. There's a base here. It's Order. That's the good news. Bad news is, HOO BOY are they not happy to see me. They were yelling their heads off about me being.. infested? What the hell? I had bedbugs one time, man. One. Time. Anyway, no way are they letting me dock. Well. This can't be their main base, anyway. Way too small. When I showed up, I saw a transport heading out of the cloud toward a bigger one. Best lead I've got. Now remember Leo. Don't look down, do not look down.... Aw, ffff.... 16:37 Been in this big green cloud for hours. It's radioactive. This piece of garbage jackal isn't happy about that, and neither am I. Just picked up a jump hole on scanners. Don't know where it goes. Don't care. I just want out. 17:04 I have never been so glad to be shot at. Automated Order turrets, in a system with no whirlpool of death, no radiation, no nothing. Bliss. There's a planet here, and it looks nicer to live on than half the planets in Liberty. No way the Order isn't based here. Now, how the hell do I get down... 18:42 Note to self: make this part sound WAY cooler when I'm telling it in the bar later. I disabled my transponder, then claimed I was a Junker that got lost. The jackal was so badly banged up I didn't look like any kind of threat. So I'm down... in the scrapyard. I 'borrowed' a mechanic's uniform, but the ship dealer here is under super heavy guard. I gotta get my ship and get out before they realize I don't know my bolts from my bolters. 19:03 I AM THE LUCKIEST ROGUE ALIVE. The hulk sitting in the corner of the mechanic's shop? The exact damn ship I need! I mean, sure, it's got no engines, but just about the only things left working on the Jackal are the engines, and I know they're made so any idiot can swap em out. If I pull an all nighter, I can be out of here before I need to do any real work. RE: Logs of LR-Base.Race - How Leo Nine got lost - RockCrystal - 07-10-2019 7/10/826 AS. 03:46 Did I say I wasn't doing any real work here? Yeah... no. The Jackal's engines might be overpowered but they are NOT made to push a hulk like this thing. And I don't get to do a test run - once I start this monster, the jig's up. Had a couple close calls already. Oh yeah - one other little issue I forgot to mention. Engines weren't the only thing missing - all this monster's guns were stripped off too. So no way in hell am I shooting my way out here, either. I need a better plan... 05:12 Okay. I made it out. Funny story - if you rig an EMP mine to set off right after you blast off, it actually disables planetbound tech in a pretty big radius - not shielded for it, after all. So I don't think they saw me leave, and they were probably too busy to chase me anyway. I hope. No clue what my next move is, but no way in HELL am I going back to Omicron Sigmund. There's a trail of beacons leading away from the planet, let's see where that goes. 05:33 Had to do a circle around a big ol battleship. Not sure if it saw me. Beacons lead into more of that green soup they call a nebula around here. Oh goody, my favorite. 06:10 Through another jump hole, and I'm surrounded by big ol chunky asteroids. No nebula here. Real sick of being lost... 07:04 My eyes are starting to burn. I'm bouncing off more of these asteroids than I need to. Need sleep... or at least some damn coffee. Been wandering around this system way too long without spotting any jump holes. There's gotta be a way out though, right? 09:54 STILL THE LUCKIEST ALIVE. I found a Junker patrol on their way back from supplying the station here. They're letting me follow them back to their base. Only downside is we're back in that green effing soup. I swear I'm starting to see little critters moving around in it... 10:03 Holy hell, that planet got blown to crap. Junkers say that's where the Order used to live. Seriously? That used to be livable? What the hell does that to a whole planet? At least I know what the Junkers are doing out here now. There's a battlefield and a half of wrecked ships out here. Maybe once I wake up I can find some engines for this ship that don't suck so bad. Guns would be nice, too. I feel naked without em. Station's up ahead. Safety... sleep. I can taste it. 22:31 Mhm. Must've needed that. I'm back to playing the 'Good little Zoner' card with these guys. Namedropping Joe seemed to impress them, I guess he's with the Congress now. Got a decent meal off em, they said I can have all the scrap and parts I want as long as I load it on my ship myself, and best of all - they have a convoy setting off for Munich in the morning, and they said I could ride along. All I know about Munich is it's in Rheinland, somewhere, but I can for sure get back to Liberty if I get there. Just gotta follow the traders. RE: Logs of LR-Base.Race - How Leo Nine got lost - RockCrystal - 07-11-2019 7/11/826 AS. 03:10 I really hate manual labor. At least I have something to show for it besides some busted up rocks at a penal colony. The Base Race has GUNS. I mean, if I were pirating it I wouldn't worry about em, but it might make some rookies think twice. Also, filled my hold with scrap metal. Normally wouldn't bother, but the Junkers are hauling the stuff to Munich so it must be worth SOMEthing to them. Still hours till the convoy leaves. I'm gonna grab another little catnap. 07:09 Convoy's forming up. Apparantly there's a ton of jump holes in this system, and most of them are bad news. We're heading for Omicron Delta, though, which for these parts is apparantly not so bad. OK. Hey, I've had sleep, I've had food, and I'm heading back to Liberty. Bring it. 08:13 Uh, yeah, it's been brought. Delta's kind of pretty, which was about the fourth thing I noticed on jumping here. First, second and third being the three way battle between some crazy blue things, what looked like Bounty Hunter ships on steroids, and what're becoming my least favorite guys in the galaxy, the Order. Well, second least favorite. Aint no way you can top the LPI on that list. Thankfully, they were way too busy fighting each other to give me a second glance. Or the Junkers. We're heading through the system now, passing what looks like a planet being terraformed. What the heck are bounty hunters doing out here though? 08:32 OH HELL NO. The crazy Junkers tried to take me through a system full of these jacked Hunters. Guess they're called Core? Hump. That. Noise. Junkers mentioned there's a Freeport in this system, so I'm making for that. Like I said... hell, was it only three days ago? The Zoners know where everything is. And these ones don't know me, which is a huge bonus. I'm getting real sick of pretending to be mister goody two-shoes, though. Space help whichever transport captain I run into when I'm done with this damn job. 11:07 Uhhh... okay, so the Zoners kept me locked in my ship while they did 'security checks' till I wanted to scream, then they wanted to give me a damn physical? Not worth it. Since when are the Zoners security obsessed nutjobs? It must be this space, man. It does something to you. Got my damn directions and got out. I'm on my way to the jump hole now. 11:24 Okay, so this system's called Kappa... And that's about all I know. Except that there's another jump hole in an ice field somewhere to Omi Theta... and through there, SUPPOSEDLY, I can get to the Sigmas. I'm starting to doubt these Omicron systems actually end. What if they loop around on themselves somehow? I do NOT want to be stuck here forever. Okay. Keep it together, Leo. I see the ice field. Let's go for it. 11:48 That was suprisingly easy... and strange. Hell, at this point I'm expecting strange. What I wasn't expecting was this dinky little ship with antennae sticking out all over that looked too small to fit a person. And if there was a guy in there, his comms were down, or he wasn't in a talkative mood. He kind of led me over to the jump hole, and then just... buzzed off. Okay. Whatever. Here's a hole. Let's go in the hole. 11:55 Okay, another Freeport. Let's see if these guys are as freaked out as their buddies in Delta... 12:39 Now, this is more what I was expecting from Zoners. Open bays, cheesy decorations, and a warm seat at the bar. No Liberty Ale, but I can deal. After the last few days, I really want to get drunk, but I don't exactly have a ton of cash to blow here. A little cash, but not a ton. The dealer gave me about what I thought the scrap in my hold was worth. And hey. I have the first thing on the Underboss's little goody list. Reinforced Alloy, check. Apparantly, the jump hole in the north cloud here will go to Sigma-17. Can't hardly wait. 13:04 I'm through, but I can't tell the difference between that system and this one, so far. I'm still stuck in the same damn green soup. 13:12 NEVERMIND. GMG has a planet in this soup. With nav beacons leading to... drumroll please... a Jumpgate! So glad to see that thing. I mean, I'm not stupid enough to actually use it, but just the fact it's there means I'm finally back! OK, not gonna get super excited. I still need to find an actual jump hole. Let's see if - Oh hell. 14:24 Okay. Just had to dodge a KNF patrol. Caught the outer edge of their scanner and they were hot for me. Dodging house navy in a transport - Yep. I'm back. And I'll take twelve more encounters like that over exploring unknown space, please. Anyway, I took a jumphole and now I'm in some blue soup. Big improvement over the green. 14:36 Hold the hump on. I KNOW where I am. This is Sigma 13! I hated that damn remedial school the Zoners sent me to, but I at least remember the 80-Years-War was a thing. So this is that system sized blue nebula they fought in. Neat. Okay. Old battlefields mean more Junkers. I'ma try and find em. 14:40 Oh great. My jury rigged thrusters are setting off explosive gas pockets as I pass. The shields can take it, but I feel obvious as hell to anything nearby... 14:55 Nothing so far. Here's the trade lane. Seems weirdly quiet... did Kusari and the krauts blockade each other again? Seem to remember that being a thing in the news while I was in jail. 15:17 Okay. So, this used to be a Junker base, I can tell. I guess all the good scrap is gone now though, because it's being run by a group of freelancers. They seem to be chill with me so far. I'm gonna relax a bit here, check my mail, and figure out my next move. 15:30 Very first message was from Underboss Brooke. 'In case you survive'. Real cute. She attatched a list of places that'll sell me the stuff I need. Kinda helps, EXCEPT, under 'Fusion Diodes' she just wrote 'Only sold by Kruger or RFP. Good luck!' Thanks so much. I don't have the credits left to buy half this stuff anyway. I need a creative solution here... 17:13 Joe, you dick. Why do you only answer the damn comms after hours? Anyway. He was impressed enough that I had my ship to give me a little loan. He also said he'd see if anyone from the Junkers could get the Diodes I need. I'm meeting them behind planet Heidelberg, noon tomorrow. Assuming they're coming at all. I'm back in house space, I have a map, I'm gonna buckle down and put some cruise hours in. Updates when the sitch changes. 21:40 Holy hell, Honshu is massive. Took me this long just to cruise across it to the Blood Dragon base, and I still have to go back! The Dragons were snooty and condescending, just like always, but they took my money in the end. Optronics, check. Next stop... 'Augsberg Wreck'. RE: Logs of LR-Base.Race - How Leo Nine got lost - RockCrystal - 07-12-2019 7/12/826 AS. 01:03 This place really is a wreck. Guess they didn't build it with dark matter in mind. It's also really empty. I don't think more than half the place is even pressurized, but there's plenty of extra rooms. Free bed, dark matter outside... Reminds me of Padua. Think I'll kip here for the night and bug the shop guy in the morning. 10:21 Finding the shop in this place? WAY harder than it needed to be. I'm gonna need to burn hard to make the meeting with that Junker guy. What was his name? Jake The Wrench? Something like that. 11:57 Made it. Had to dodge a Kusari battleship though. (Side note: Why did I have to dodge a Kusari battleship? Pretty sure Frankfurt is in Rhineland..) 12:05 Junker jerk is running late. 12:27 Finally. Quick little cargo transfer later and I have the damn diodes. Lemme check my map... Ugh. I'm going deep into the Omegas now. Freeport 5. Why can't the damn Zoners live in normal places? 16:03 WHY CAN'T THE DAMN ZONERS LIVE IN NORMAL PLACES?! Seriously! I don't mind a bit of radiation if it hides me from the cops, but the Zoners don't even have to hide! Why are they living around friggin deadly disco balls?! Ugh. Whatever. Got the damn PlasFoam stuff and got out. Time to get my assets to Arranmore. Gonna spend the night there, the Mollys know how to throw a party. 19:25 WOOOO! CHUG! CHUG! CHUG!... FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! |
