First Flight - DorkwadJones - 07-10-2019 Rendon Strell was born in raised in a backwater town on Planet Houston, mostly known for both staffing, and filling the cells, of the many prisons located throughout the Texas System. With his daddy in and out of Huntsville, from an early age Rendon vowed to himself to avoid crime and stay on the right side of the law. When he was grown, he got his first job as a guard aboard Huntsville, where he worked for many years. He learned a lot about people, and came to the conclusion that, while there were a few examples of truly evil individuals, most of the guys locked up in Huntsville were largely victims of circumstance, that society had forced them into behavior that landed them in jail. He began to sour on his career in Law Enforcement (wasn't much of a career, his background, lack of education, and parentage hadn't allowed him to move up the ranks), and he started putting money away for a ship, spending his leisure time in simulators in order to prepare himself to pilot whatever beat up jalopy he could eventually afford. It took him 10 years, and during that time, he only further soured on laws of the land. He'd heard that out in the Border and Edge worlds, there were people who forged their own destiny, and the only law was avoid conflict and allow for free trade and movement of individuals. Rendon had come to believe that the only true law of humanity was to follow one's own heart, as long as it didn't hurt anyone else in the process. He saw the way the laws of the major Houses oppressed people, and while he sympathized with the revolutionaries, often branded as pirates or terrorists by the authorities, their militant nature created its own systems of injustice and oppression. He found the only groups he could really respect were those that strove for near-absolute neutrality, like the Zoners. While he aspired to Pacifism, he was too practical to believe such an existence was really possible, but rather a standard to try to live by and work toward. He knew if he was going to leave liberty behind and find a place for himself in the Edge worlds, he'd need to know how to protect himself. But he vowed to avoid conflict whenever possible. He registered himself as a freelancer, and hopped aboard a Transport bound for the Edgeworlds. He found a beat up old Spatial for sale and spent his entire life savings on the ship. He vowed not to judge anyone by their faction allegiances, but only by their actions and expressed desires. He hoped he could find a place for himself as a true independent, not beholden to any laws that caused the oppression of himself or others. The whole universe was his oyster, and he powered up his cruise engines and headed for his destiny among the stars. |
