Fission Reactor - IRMM - 07-24-2019


Fission Reactor

A very old reactor type which relies on Nuclear fission by splitting atoms of radioactive materials. This kind of reaction is controlled by moderator buffers and control rods to prevent reactor overheat and inevitable explosion. Usually contained in a water tank, due to the very high radiation absorbance level and cooling. Further contained in a lead body to due to the sheer density of the material and its ability to stop gamma radiation with relative ease. These types of reactors use water and heat to pump steam into mechanic rotors to generate electricity. Water emits a bright blue light as it is slowing down the particles from the reactor. Uranium and Plutonium are the primary fuels and create several byproduct materials from this reaction.







Thorium Reactor - IRMM - 07-24-2019


Thorium Reactor

And updated version of Fission reactor but using Thorium as a primary fuel. Thorium has better overall properties, including higher maximum working temperature while exhibiting smaller amount of gasses being generated. A safer and cleaner version compared to Uranium&Plutonium reactors with increased lifespan and smaller maintenance costs.






Fusion Reactor - IRMM - 07-24-2019


Fusion Reactor

An exactly opposite process of Fission. Under great temperatures and pressures, nuclei nuclear force overcomes electrostatic force and both nuclei bond to create a heavier nucleus, whilst releasing energy. Usually, this kind of reactor uses two main components, magnetic flux and plasma. Plasma is an ionized gas that conducts electricity and its pathways are altered by magnetic field to repel plasma from touching reactor's hull because the temperatures can reach millions of degrees. Hull containing the plasma is a spherical ring made out of a material able to withstand extremely high temperatures and have negligible effects on the magnetic field.







Antimatter reactor - IRMM - 07-24-2019


Antimatter reactor

Device which has two roles: Harvest Antimatter and Annihilate Matter. Harvesting antimatter can be done within systems where an antimatter storm is present or above clouds on planets during heavy storms where small amounts are created. In any case, the amounts of antimatter required to supply a battleship is counting in milliliters even at full operation for several years. The risks regarding it are by far the most dangerous, as antimatter has to be transported in special cases under constant magnetic field to not touch any "matter".


Otherwise an explosion comparable to Nuclear warhead is likely to occur. Device is fairly small, and even for a battleship it requires a space of a Rapier fighter. Annihilation process happens when a particle and its respective antiparticle meet and both "annihilate" each other, creating gamma-rays/photons. Therefore, Electrons/Positrons, Protons/Antiprotons, Neutrons/Antineutrons for an easy process not involving any exotic particles.

Dark Matter Reactor/Engine

Process of harvesting dark matter is so exotic and problematic because it's not visible and has no weight. It bends light when it passes through it and affects gravity. The only way to harvest it is to travel far away from Sirius or find large enough empty gaps between systems where mass of the matter doesn't equal the space in total, and then artificially increase the gravity in a large area to push dark matter onto itself.

The function of a dark matter reactor relies on simply affecting gravity by forcing matter on dark matter, causing a great amount of push force. If this process is repeated on a harmonic frequency of the ship hull. The Ship using this device can move through space undetected using gravity itself (slingshotting itself) and be virtually impossible to detect to conventional trail analyzers. Piezoelectric properties of certain materials can be employed to generate energy for the entire ship from the gravitational waves of the engines.

Unfortunatelly, this kind of Reactor/Engine requires trips to no-mans-land away from Sirius in order to "refuel" and the reactor itself may cost more than several Dreadnoughts. Dark matter itself has a value of several billions per milligram in scientific communities. On the other hand, a prototype of it has the ability to sneak anywhere and requires little to no maintenance or refueling until the mission is done, as the ship may appear to be a lifeless pile of garbage.






Singularity Reactor - IRMM - 07-24-2019


Singularity Reactor

One of the most advanced and scalable powergrid of Maltese ships. Constructed close to Razgriz Blackhole in Omicron Phi, it relies on catching the virtual particles of Hawking radiation before "igniting" the process. The amount of particles collected decides on what power the core has. It might sound simple, but this process takes nearly a day for Rapier class powercore and about a month for Ranseur. Exact inner working are a closely guarded secret, but it's known that the drive is notoriously hard to detect and emits small amount of fast traveling Neutrinos. And due to it's nature and creation place, it's nearly impossible to reverse engineer.

It works by creating a dense gravity well where Black hole's virtual particles are spawned and attract their corresponding antiparticle. These antiparticles are then held inside dense energy field and forced onto each other to form either an Electron Neutrino or Muon Neutrino. Fusion of this scale releases massive amounts of energy and cannot be run continuously or else the reactor would undergo a fast meltdown. Therefore it's done in approximately 1 second intervals and these sudden surges run through Fusion diodes to Nanocapacitors. Initial spark from a 3rd party device is required as this device is not capable of self recovering after prolonged sleep due to Nanocapacitors having internal resistance and loosing power overtime. On the other side, there's virtually no need to disable the reactor inside Capital ships.
