this is bad because it's a pvpve event where one side gets assblasted by the other yet win because they actually fullfilled their objective while ignoring the other team. this makes bretonia frustrated because they "lost" to gallia and makes gallia players frustrated because they also "lost" to bretonia, meaning everyone lost and everyone hates everyone (the outcome of the event is fixed (as far as i understand) and thus there's no winning or losing for either side no matter what) , even though bretonia got by far the worst of it in terms of gameplay.

next time i suggest you set the event in 2 clear and continuous stages. players fight pve, fullfil the objective (or not) and then continue to the pvp part. a similar approach was hugely succesful in the XTF birthday events set up a few years ago because players who died in the first fight went to a different system to continue fighting until another round began from scratch. caps were included and were the center of the first battle with most of the players on snubs trying to support their capital ships, while the rest of the fights had snubs exclusively and in decreasing numbers each time because people were tired and/or ran out of time to play, meaning that despite of the participation of ~15 XTF players and ~40 non XTF players, the event wasn't a ***** of lag except at the beginning and we didn't crash the server, because there were fights taking places across 2 systems at once, sometimes 3, and both sides interacted with eachother in a couple of different ways.

despite this seemingly "negative" feedback the event has obviously been a success, seeing as the server was full, something I haven't seen except in rare occassions such as this type of event, but if you wish to have these continue to be succesful i suggest you implement some changes as suggested above.

I like the idea.

Kudos to the event team and devs
apart from the crashes, infinite login screen and lag it was a sight to see
the NL atmosphere was beautiful
server was at its limit, hasn't happened in years. well done

RE: [Official Event] Pyres of Remembrance - Catbert - 08-18-2019

Kudos to the devs and to all the participants. I knew that the outcome was predetermined, so I didn't have the feeling that Gallia "lost". There were other issues, that the people above brought up, but ultimately it was a great experience story-wise.

I absolutely loved the Atmosphere system: awesome starsphere, thunderclouds with actual rain and lightning. A part of me wishes that system remained in the mod. It could house a couple of the many stations that are orbiting New London right now. It would also provide ambience for some nice RP, like military parades, etc. On the other hand, I understand that it might not be feasible gameplay-wise (extra jumps, etc).

Either way, it's something to remember.

Damn, I was screwed and I couldn not participale in event...and who won ?....will planet stay Bretonian or it has fall in Galic hands ?

RE: [Official Event] Pyres of Remembrance - Sombs - 08-18-2019

Gallia destroyed New London, everything is good.

No idea.

I suppose we will have to wait for the Official Announcement from the Devs.

RE: [Official Event] Pyres of Remembrance - Karlotta - 08-18-2019

I think the event was well done all in all, especially the dramatic setup and the visuals.

There was a lot of moaning on the gallic side because "omg we can't win", but one side is bound to experience that at some point of most battles, and it's one of the reasons why event outcomes shouldn't change the future of the mod (and thereby the future of some factions and their players accomplishments).

About the lag, because 2 x 10x10 collision checks (probably?) take less bandwidth than 20x20 collision checks (I'm guessing it works like that in the FL engine?) the event can be split into 2 battles in 2 systems where player numbers are controlled by the staff activating and de-activating jump holes near the spawn points. And/or make an additional dedicated event server with the right restarts like for the destruction of Toledo event.

[Official Event] Pyres of Remembrance Video Full Version
Full video, no cuts. Including server crash.

During the recording, I had 20 - 30 FPS, as indicated in the corner of the screen. But in the video, everything seems to be smooth.

RE: [Official Event] Pyres of Remembrance - Dank Vader - 08-26-2019

After facing huge trouble from premiere pro for basically no reason, I finally managed to edit my footage of the event. It'll be in 3 parts, of which the 1st one can be found here for anyone that's interested: https://youtu.be/UKJUikXR3Eo
The other 2 parts shall be up relatively soon.

RE: [Official Event] Pyres of Remembrance - Dank Vader - 08-27-2019

Shameless self promotion here: part 2 is up if you want to take a look at it.: https://youtu.be/vLaGz1mneNo
