A Strange Bedfellow - Jonathan Seabourne - 08-23-2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PLANET NEW LONDON, NEW LONDON SYSTEM, BRETONIA SPACE Luxury liner Breezewood continues to play its part in the refugee convoy out of Leeds. Aided by ad-hoc collections of freighters, the vessel's 4,000 emergency berths have been pushed to the limit, saving another 20,000 souls from destruction at the hands of his majesty. However, the current desperate attempt to evacuate as many as possible has lead to a curious confluence of Sirius's messy politics in the orange smog clouds of the Leeds system. Breezewood was flying with the Daumann cargo vessel DHC-Steyr earlier today. The Daumann craft, capable of cramming 5,000 desperate refugees into its hold designed to carry ore with minimal atmosphere and life support, was already an interesting sight in Leeds. Rheinland is officially neutral in the war and ALG's actions in the Omegas nearly brought a diplomatic crisis between Bretonia and the fatherland. However, DHC has successfully skirted the line in avoiding upsetting Gallia or Bretonia while transporting refugees. One group that does not tolerate the foreign intervention, however, is the Mollys. "They ran into the dread pirate Goldfang," explained Jonathan Seabourne, the Breezewood's captain. "He opened fire on Kapitan Hemmel [of the Steyr], which we heard through the jump hole on comms. His ship was badly damaged and he spilled his cargo of refugees. We had a choice: do we push through the jump hole and take our chances with whatever was on the other side or do we cut our losses and ground ourselves until BAF could scare him off?" Ultimately, the intrepid OSC liner braved the risk, which turned out to be the right call. The Molly pirate flagged the OSC vessel to perform search and rescue on the refugees that had been spilled from the Steyr's hold. "He didn't have a problem with us running refugees," said Seabourne, "just with a Rheinland corporation doing it." However, when Gallic forces showed up to interfere with the evacuation, Goldfang dashed off to secure the skies from Gallic influence before eventually being driven off by BAF forces. "It was a very tense situation," confessed Breezewood. "Everyone's trying to help, but there are still a lot of unresolved conflicts between these factions. We're trying to serve a greater good and give the benefit of the doubt out there, but shots are still being fired." "I even had a freelancer named Andres.Perea offer me a hold full of Gallic personnel," referring to the French subjects trapped on Leeds who are being murdered en masse by their own King's fleet. "However, we're not in the prisoner transport business, and I could not in good conscience evacuate members of the house executing this atrocity while millions still eagerly look to the skies for anything that flies and holds atmosphere." "It's a mess," concluded a weary Seabourne. "It's a gods-forsaken mess, but we're trying to clean it up, one cargo hold at a time." Orbital Spa and Cruise Planet Curacao, Cortez System |
