PART I
Jarrow Island, Planet New London

Evacuation before the gallic assault of the system

Director Weber: Minister, I do not think I need to tell you how short time is. New London is now threatened, as such you are to be evacuated post haste. I am sending agents to Jarrow Island to get you when they arrive, please follow them to an assigned location where you will be taken to Cambridge
...
Whatever you can take from your facility is of secondary importance today. Although I don't think I need to tell you that Jarrow Island cannot fall into enemy hands if the Gallic Navy does make planetfall.
...
Baron Piett: The evacuation will be done without delay. Nevertheless I will need some time to order my cargo to be prepared.
...
I already knew this day might come and was prepared. The rest thirty of my guard agreed to remain on the island...to double check all the charges I've ordered to be set in all buildings.
...
If worst is to come I would not allow these gallic savages to know what we've done. If they land here they will find only raging hell, as the entire island will be blown to the skies - my men will make sure of that.

Time -11:00, sending message to the General Staff

Baron Piett: Ever since my facilities are operational I've been stocking battle armors with hope they would never had to be used unless a possible assault on the capitol is in motion.
...
I have more than 500'0000 armors ready and waiting in my island... You just have to send some transports to pick them up from here. May they serve well to our soldiers if they would be forced to fight a ground assault.
...
Admiral Jacob McIntire: These armors are very welcome now that the men and women of New London take up arms, I will open this communication to Lord Hamilton. The Merchant Navy will surely pick these up at the earliest convenience.
...
Captain Ryan O'Dukes, Executive Officer of the Merchant Navy: As my commanding officer Lord Hamilton is currently inspecting the Norfolk and its surrounding area, it is my task to report our transports manned, armed and ready for duty.
...
I have already ordered an extension of daily times of duty, so the crews are prepared for departure at any time. As we can not leave our boys on the ground defenseless, it is an honor for us to fulfill this task.

Time - 12:50, The Sage Tower, shuttle bay 1

SIS agent: Baron Piett, by orders of Director Weber you are to follow our Templars to Cambridge. When you are ready, give us a sign.
...
Black Trooper Captain: Sir, the shuttle cargo hold is full - your belongings are intact. The vessel is ready to take off. Shall we proceed?
...
Baron Piett: Very well, then. Captain Robinson fire up the engines. We are leaving.

"Piett sent a final glimpse at the island from above. As if it would be the last."

Time 13:00, Above Jarrow Island

SIS agent: Templar Sigma to "Knight's Fortune". Your engine is ablaze, do you copy?
Captain Robinson: This is captain Robinson of the "Knight's Fortune". We lost power to the main reactor. At this point we should get back to....

Time 13:30, "Knight's Fortune" wreck, Jarrow Island

Captain Robinson: Sir! Are you alright?
Baron Piett: I can't feel my legs...Robinson! Your arm is...
Captain Robinson: I know sir...I won't be making it alive. *coughs blood* but you will.
I've called Her. She will be here soon.
Baron Piett: *sighs* There is little time. Bring me the sphere its in this locker over there. I can't move...
Captain Robinson: Baron, its been honor serving you all these years. May the Light prevails! *with his remaining hand he salutes and falls on the ground lifeless*
...
"Shock. What happened? What will happen?" The unknown is ahead. With these thoughts Baron Piett took the sphere, given just before minutes by the deceased now captain and opened it. The Seer stone, the artifact provided by the leader of the oracles - Mother Satrina herself - glowed in peaceful purple light. Once the stone made contact with the skin of his hand visions from the past stroke his mind once again. He collapsed.
...

Time 00:30, Underground VIP bunker, Jarrow Island

Doctor Lydia: His vital signs are critical. If it wasn't for the stone's healing aura he would be dead. At this current state of healing process it would require more than year for full body restoration.
The Lady: Time is irrelevant, doctor. Jarrow must live. You are aware of the consequences if he doesn't.
Doctor Lydia: I've served him for years. I would never fail him. Instead of threatening me why don't you go out and hunt down those who brought him to this state, madam?
The Lady: That is exactly what I am going to do. Delayed or not our patron's contingency plan will be executed. You make sure to keep him alive until this...process of restoration is over...In the meantime I will relay justice.
Doctor Lydia: Said like a true adjudicator.
The Adjudicator: That would make a suitable nickname. What about his public status?
Doctor Lydia: Coma. I will transfer some medical files to the government to justify his sudden absence. We don't want prying eyes digging for the truth, are we?
The Adjudicator: Excellent. Proceed with your work, doctor, I want my father back on his feet as soon as possible.

Time 03:00, Unknown, Unknown

"Sitting in her chair, staring through the glass at the view outside, she thought about the past moments spent with her father. She loved these moments even though they were few. Labor omnia vincit - Hard work conquers all. Pulvis et umbra sumus - We are but dust and shadow. Fiat Lux - Let there be light. The latter was used more often than the rest. She was taught to respect and embrace this "Light". And so she did. They say there is no light without dark, no good without evil, no right without wrong. That nothing can exist if it's direct opposite does not also exist.
Her peaceful daydreaming was interrupted by one of the guards entering the room."

Black Trooper Captain: Ma'am. We've found the target.
The Adjudicator: Cito fit quod dii volunt. - she said these words with any lack of emotions. - Lead the way.

PART II
The Sage Tower, Jarrow Island, Planet New London

Time 04:23, Secret Lab, The Sage Tower

"After the nomad invasion in Newcastle system, the aliens sent an asteroid to impact with planet New London. The Government launched a mining operation to delay and neutralize the object. This lead to the discovery of the Azurite which build a name in the science divisions as a product of rare value. In secret Baron Piett was experimenting its influence on gallic prisoners of war. From his perspective they were not protected by the human rights due to their vicious nature and bestiary instincts. Years later the genocide unleashed on the planets New London and Leeds should prove his point as valid. No human being would ever commit such a terrible act to kill billions...for satisfaction. Any results concluded after these experiments are classified. Even though his inner circle consisted of trusted individuals some of them were starting to shake their affiliation after observing the horrors of the Azurite"

Black Trooper Captain: He is inside the lab, ma'am. I've ordered him captured and ready for interrogation. You will be shocked - I assure you.
* Her reaction was a simple smile with no emotion. They've entered the room but it was empty. The guard took off his helmet and pointer his laser rifle at her back. She turned slowly at him without changing her attitude as if she was expected him to do that.*

The Adjudicator: You are a brave man, captain. Sadly, most brave people are fools and you are no different.
Black Trooper Captain: Tell you what - you will die right here and right now. Then I will move down there in this cursed bunker and kill your doctor...and your father, as well. He seems to refuse to die. I personally set the charges on board of his shuttle. Once Gallia conquers this place I will be a hero. What the good old baron used to say? We are but dust and shadow. His words...his believes...Rejoice ma'am - you will become just that - dust in the shadows.
The Adjudicator: Duly noted. You gave my father one death sentence and yet he survived. Your penance will be paid with one death sentence...and you will survive as well. But you will not be the same.
*She vanished. Her personal modified NPT-V8 suit activated and rendered her invisible. The captain of the guards was surprised for a second but begun shooting in front of him. Suddenly he stopped and dropped his weapon on the ground. He felt the long cold nano-fiber blade penetrating his armor from behind his back. His assassin was visible again, grasping his hair and pulling his head backwards. She whispered in his ear*
The Adjudicator: Fear not, captain. You will live. This will be my condemnation for you.

Time 06:23, Lab №55, The Research Wing

The Adjudicator: How long do I have to wait for subject's retribution, doctor?
Doctor Lydia: Just a few more minutes. Usually, preparations for the procedure takes time and precision. You gave me very little of both.
...
*Ignoring what the doctor said she continued to observe the man behind the armored glass as she was seeing something behind him - she was thinking: The captain of the baron's personal guard proved to be a traitor. She expected an act like that as a possibility but not from him. It seems this man was driven by fear of the inevitable end of Bretonia and decided to strike a nice deal with the enemy. There is no mercy for traitors. Once a traitor - always a traitor. Bretonia is not the place for enemies of the Crown and subjects like this man were no different. There could be only one cure for them - consecration in service to the Light - where they might find peace and tranquility for their wretched souls. *
...
Doctor Lydia: Tara. we are ready. The subject is restrained. I took the liberty to inject him with neuromuscular-blocking drugs to ease the embrace of the gift.
The Adjudicator: Good call, doctor. We must not forget that we are human. Kindness is the force to stop us from making decisions we might regret. *she pressed a button to activate the microphone and surround systems inside the cell where the prisoner was lying on the lab table, so he could hear her.*
The Adjudicator: Captain Benedict Wood, you are accused of treason. Our agents found disturbing data connecting you to the gallic royal navy. The evidences are solid, so you have no word on this matter. With no further delay, you are sentenced to death. But...*she paused* ..since this is not an official court martial I am pleased to inform you by the grace of our patron - Baron Firmus Piett - you will be given chance to repent your sins and find salvation in the Light.
*Benedict Wood - the captain of Piett's personal guard was tied to the operation chamber and unable to move. His eyes were moving rapidly, trying to focus at too many objects at the same time. He was clueless, afraid and betrayed...by himself. Fear stroke his heart long ago and Fear dictated his actions so far. Fear lead him to believe he was doing the right thing...and Fear embraced him now to prove him wrong. No one wants to die.
Doctor Lydia: If I am not interrupting, we are ready to begin.
The Adjudicator: *acting as if she did not heard her* Consecrate him.

*Lydia pulled a small lever on her control panel which lead to the opening of a hatch door inside the cell of the prisoner. In a moment of silence the people in the room were like frozen - sitting and observing. From the tunnel emerged a mystic creature known only to few - most of which would not live to tell the story. The Envoy crawled over the immovable captain. Jumped at him and rises like a viper, spreading his thin head in to four malevolent jaws. As the creature was inserting itself inside the captain's body through his mouth, none of the people in the room were shocked or disturbed. In fact all of them, especially doctor Lydia, were quite intrigued of the whole process. Once the creature was inside Lydia activated an x-ray scan to continue the observation and change of the subject bio functions. The whole process took less than a minute. A minute which most would describe as cruelty while others - a merciful act. Benedict's eyes opened and were glowing in purple light. He was still restrained - unable to move.*
Doctor Lydia: Subject 55 has embraced the Light. The vital organs are untouched. The Envoy of the Light is linked to the subject's nervous system and is taking root at the base of the brain stem. As you see, the only visual change at the moment is the glowing eyes. Currently the subject is harmless.
The Adjudicator: How long would be required for the Envoy to take full control?
Doctor Lydia: Considering the early attempts and subjects...conclusion would be approximately two weeks. After that the host would lose full control of his consciousness and the Envoy would be considered as matured.
The Adjudicator: Excellent. This information is of great importance, doctor. If Bretonia ever face such a threat we must be ready to counter it. By knowing this we would have hope to save our people from assimilation. *she stared at Lydia* You look troubled. A sudden change of hearts?
Doctor Lydia: *staring back at Tara* Never.

The Adjudicator: *pausing for a moment and cutting the eye contact with Lydia shifting it to the rest in the room* You are all here for a reason. The Greater Good will never come to this world if we don't rise hand and take it! Open your hearts to the Light, continue to close your eyes from its rays of salvation but do not stop moving forward...*points the tied captain behind the armored glass* Those that fail shall embrace it like this man...the choice is yours. Serve the Light...or Embrace it. There is no middle ground. *she grin* What it would be for you?
The few doctors: For the Light! For the Light! *clapping with hands*
The Adjudicator: Baron Piett would be most pleased with your never ending efforts and support. You are an example to those afraid digging the dark.
Doctor Lydia: *closing to Tara and whispers* What about the subject? The Baron forbid us from keeping them here.
The Adjudicator: *turning back at her* I will handle the transportation of the subject. You make sure all here to be clean.
...
*Tara left the room leaving the doctors to continue their work. While moving in the corridor she made a phone call*

PART III
Several months later, New London system, Bretonia

Southampton Shipyard, New London

"As the beating heart of the Bretonian war effort, it was the inevitable target of the Gallic Royal Navy. With the lessons learned from Glasgow, LD-14 and Stokes, the Armed Forces took steps ensure that the Station, only a stone's throw away from New London, would not fall into the enemy's hands. As the "Blitz" arrived, the commanding Officer of Battleship York issued both the evacuation and demolition order of the Shipyard. Several key structures of Southampton - including The Bridge - were destroyed through controlled nuclear meltdowns of the Station's several Reactors, compromising any effort to repair in a timetable that could be of immediate use to the Gallic Forces"

York battlegroup, Southampton vicinity

"During the first stages of the war with Gallia in Leeds, Bretonia started open military ship transfer with House Liberty. Since then captain Robinson was in charge of one of the shared Defiant-class gunboats - HMS-Niagara. But after his demise, months early during the events in Jarrow Island, the ship was transferred to battle-group York. Until then the vessel participate primary in patron duty of inner Bretonia regions.
...
The battle around Southampton Shipyard was marked with the loss of York. At the same time, Niagara's engine was destroyed by an antimatter shot from a Cougar bomber. As the ship was immovable in space and easy target - Battleship Athos obliterated it with ease. The entire crew as well as its new captain were considered KIA."

Warwick battlegroup, planet New London

"Two of the many front line fleets forming the defense grid around planet New London were those of Gettysburg and Warwick.
Battleship HMS-Roya.Sovereign, the former flagship of the Armed Forces, accompanied by the Dunkirk HMS-Dauntless and the shared LABC HMS-Allegiance were part of the Warwick's group - located in tight formation around it.
...
*The Gettysburg, along with the Carrier Warwick met the frontal assault with all their strength, with their combined efforts rendering the Gullistere a smoking wreck, and dealing considerable damage to the other two. Unfortunately, such was the weight of the assault, the Dax broke through the formation, with the Gettysburg and Warwick going down with all hands.
...
Dauntless and Allegiance focused all their fire on the Dax, ignoring Nogent's charging forward gun. From point blank range the bridge of Dauntless was blown out rendering the ship with no captain nor officers to command the remaining crew. The men and women aboard the old dunkirk continued to maintain and fire the turrets until the ship's external armor begun to crack and breaks in to pieces followed by reactor breach and the inevitable destruction of the whole vessel. Only a small group of the crew have managed to survive.
...
Infuriated, the captain of Allegiance turned his attention from Dax to Nogent and ordered his vessel to build some distance. The crew begun bombardment from above where the valor was vulnerable and unable to use its deadly warwolf cannon. With every hit landed, the valor's armor continued to be shattered and melted. Nevertheless, Nogent's cruiser escorts were alerted by this move and flanked the Allegiance which was forced to disengage. Several hits landed on it's thrusters system control - without them the vessel was slowed down. Two bretonian destroyers closed in to provide assistance to the battlecruiser. The brawl took long enough but the enemy ships were destroyed. Due to reactor leak the crew of Allegiance were ordered to evacuate, leaving the vessel adrift - to join its many "brethren" in the newly formed metal field around the planet.
...
Roya Sovereign was heavily armed and armored with the best available protection suite. It was also highly modified with specialized equipment as well as cloaking device for surprise attacks. Before the initial assault of the valors trio, that cloaking device was activated, rendering the vessel invisible to sensors and naked eye. The ship was moved in position from which once uncloaked to be able to flank the closing valors from behind where they were most vulnerable. Once the valors fired their first warwolf shots and engaged Gettysburg and Warwick, Royal Sovereign disengaged its cloaking field and sent out flurry of never ending barrage at Gullistere. Once the valor was a wreck the crew turned their gaze towards Nogent's engines - disabling them and allowing the Alliance fleet to finish off the weakened ship later at the end of the battle. Sadly, one of the drawbacks of using cloaking technology was the shield array disruption. During the coarse of the battle - Royal Sovereign maintained shield of approximately 20%. The escorts of the valors would not allow the VIctoria-class battleship to regain its shield or use the cloak again. Cougar bombers and Obstinate cruisers swarmed the vessel from all sides focusing its main reactor placed in the middle. Sovereign's fighter escort did their best to take down most of the bombers while its bomber squad devastated one of the cruisers but the damage taken was critical. A long range missle fired from Suffolk disabled the last Obstinate. Nevertheless the main reactor of Royal Sovereign took enough beating and started to melt down. The evacuation was interrupted by multiple chain reactions, eviscerating the ship from inside out.
With one last explosion - the former flagship of the Armed Forces, a ship with long history of services since the war with Kusari and now presumably the final battle against Gallia - was devastated in pieces. Due to the unexpected fast reactor melt down the crew was unable to leave the vessel on time and was considered KIA.

Jarrow Island, planet New London

The battle for planet New London was exhausting with many losses on both sides. Nevertheless the Alliance fleet took the upper hand while the Royalists saw this as the beginning of a sudden defeat. As final act of rage to punish Bretonia, the gallic royal navy sent their Triumph-class destroyers to enter New London's atmosphere. These ships began to bombard cities, military installations, and government facilities, including the Buckingham Palace, residence of Queen Carina and the Bretonian Royal Family.
...
At this time, deep underground in the VIP bunker - doctor Lydia and her team continued to observe the status of their patron - Baron Firmus Piett. He was still in stasis for several months after the usage of the seer stone. The healing process was nearly complete but more time was needed for the results to be satisfying at best. The doctors were shocked to hear from the news the burning terror unleashed by the gallic royal navy upon their home planet. Countless lives lost, cities destroyed, chaos and panic fighting with the peaceful population.
...
One of the many Gallic Triumph-class destroyers obliterated the vicinity near the Jarrow island. The shock wave damaged the energy generators and shut down the electricity of the small evacuated city and the nearby Surgical Reconstruction Center (SRC). During the activation of the emergency generators a burst of light emerged from within the lab where the baron's body was located. The seer's stone was glowing in dark purple light and slowly fading out. Minutes later, once the gem's light disappeared, baron Piett opened his eyes and took a deep breath.

Baron Piett's office, The Sage Tower

"Few days later, in his office - Baron Piett, Lord of Jarrow, was enlightened by his daughter - Tara - about the past events since his blackout. His health was partially stable. Jarrow Island was one of his greatest personal accomplishments - he devoted himself to build battle armors to boost the protection of the soldiers as well as using his wealth to support the war front. To see it partially destroyed caused him pain. But that pales in comparison with the whole situation. The capital planet of Bretonia, most notorious buildings including the Queen's palace and the death toll rising even now let him with no words."

Baron Piett: Terrible news, Tara. Terrible...
The Adjudicator: Nothing could be done to prevent what happened. Still, the Alliance armada have won. Sadly at great cost, father.
Baron Piett: War without sacrifices? Never heard of that. *he sighed* Please, continue...
The Adjudicator: We've lost York and your old friend admiral George Richard Hall with it. Your gunboat - Niagara - was part of York's battlegroup and sadly a casualty as well. Suffolk had a hard time battling the valor Nogent but proved to be victorious. Nevertheless the ship was incapacitated.
Baron Piett: Poor old Hall...I wish I could have few more moments of talk with this shady old bastard.
The Adjudicator: *ignoring what her father just said, she continues* Your former flagship - Royal Sovereign accompanied by one of the BRF old dunkirks Dauntless and the LABC Allegiance are also destroyed.
Baron Piett: Any survivors from these ships?
The Adjudicator: Only a small group. *she paused while staring at him emotionless*
Baron Piett: *taking a deep breath* Where is captain Benedict Wood? The one that...delayed my plans.
The Adjudicator: He's been consecrated.
Baron Piett: *a smile arose on his sad face* I hope he serves well in the name of the Light.
The Adjudicator: He lives...and he serves...
Baron Piett: I only wish it could be that easy to remove any...obstacles to Bretonia. These gallic savaged are no human - a metaphor of course - but true nonetheless. Our situation is dire, Tara. From what I read on the news and listening to your reports these past days I see there is much work to be done. Our future - the next generation and the generation after them - must have a normal life. We must honor the dead and appreciate their sacrifice, which was not in vain. Bretonia is in ruins - we must all work together to rebuild it.
The Adjudicator: What would you have me do?
Baron Piett: Once the time is right, I will be contacting you to start your mission. Until then, continue to look for more information about the "Nobles".
The Adjudicator: As you wish, father.
Baron Piett: *waves at her* Go, now. I need to rest.

"Tara left the room leaving Piett in his office. He removed his gloves and held the seer's stone but there was no light coming out of it. He did not sense a presence nor a voice whispering in the dark. He was alone in the room and alone in his mind. K'Hara|Il'lume - the nomad wanderer and observer to the young seeker was gone."
