An Unexpected Layover - Jonathan Seabourne - 09-02-2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PLANET NEW BERLIN, NEW BERLIN SYSTEM, RHEINLAND SPACE The Breezewood, unlike many OSC liners, does not keep to a fixed itinerary. Those who need to be at a particular place at a particular time likely can't afford the liner's amenities anyway. But on her inaugural flight after being released from refugee ferrying in Leeds, Breezewood had to make a journey that was completely unexpected, even by her standards. "We were carrying some Manhattan socialites to Baden Baden [in Stuttgart]," explained Jonathan Seabourne, the Breezewood's captain. "We encountered three Rheinland military vessels, two cruisers and a similarly sized ship. There was some confusion over their IFFs, so we hailed them and asked permission to observe them fly by. A lot of our passengers live for the chance to spot some of the rarer, and more impressive, hardware Sirius has to offer." The normally unflappable captain turned grim as he continued. "Without warning or demand, the three ships opened fire upon us. We were out of position with the jumpgate [to Stuttgart] so we fled south, seeking to be anywhere but here." The move seemed to surprise the vessels who spooled up to cruising speed to pursue Breezewood but not before the liner managed to get out of weapons range. "We used up all of our nanobots and batteries fleeing. Our hull integrity was down to 5%. If New Berlin had been a radioactive system, there would not have been enough ablative armor left to hold atmosphere." Breezewood kept sailing south, hoping her pursuers would have bigger fish to fry. Eventually, they turned off, allowing the Captain to plan the next move. Seabourne ordered the vessel to hold course until they were well off the beaten path. "We weren't even on the nav map for New Berlin anymore," he noticed. Eventually, Seabourne ordered the helm to make for New Berlin for repairs. Fortunately, the vessel made it with no further issues, and many of the socialites seemed delighted at the prosect of having survived such a close brush with death. Seabourne, however, was less than thrilled. "My passengers are safe and happy, but we came too close to never coming home," said the captain. "I've had ships shot out from under me, but this, this rattles me. I've never had to use my lifeboat alarms except for drills before. I hope I never have to pull that lever again." Anyone with information about the offending vessels, Onkel_Patrick, Onkel_Sippi, and Onkel_Hammy is encouraged to contact the Rheinland Federal Police and Rheinland Military.
