A Question Saved - Is a Question Earned - LegendOfTheWolf - 10-04-2019

It is a usual story for Sirius. A chance encounter in orbit of New London kindles the curiosity. An accidental remark about "doing some digging" results in an entertaining, if not outright flirtatious exchange. This evolves into a game of chance, with secrets at stake and the winner asking the questions. Emily wins. Multiple times. Getting to ask what she wanted to know, to the point that she gives the last round to her opponent out of courtesy. On one condition...

The sun has begun to set for New London, the sky traffic slowly decreasing for the day's rest. On one of the launch pads, an Eagle sat calmly, the drizzle of rain slowly slipping down the wings and tail fins. The bar inside a nearby building was almost empty, clearly the youths of the night life were yet to appear.

Emily sat patiently, watching the weather soak the window she was peering through towards the launch pad, as she awaited her company to land. She removed her slightly damp jacket of tanned leather, revealing a black turtle neck jumper beneath. The makeup she had applied with haste began to run slightly, no matter how brief her time in the rain had been.

"A drink for the lady?" A voice disturbed Emily's peace, she looked up and saw one of the barmen, staring down at her. "No, thanks" Emily spoke out after composing herself. The barman removed himself from her presence, and she once again peered through the rain.

The sound of the engines outside gave away the approach of another ship. The sleek Griffin descended from the skies towards a nearby landing pad. A specialist would distinguish the lower sound of a PTE-series engine, not commonly found on such ships. A custom work, surely.

Half-a-minute after the engine shut down, the hatch hissed wide open. A man looked outside, noticing the Eagle and the bar nearby. After a quick glance and estimation, he rushed towards the building through the rain. The bell alerted everyone of the opening door, and a blond in a brown leather jacket walked into the bar.

Quickly glancing around, he noticed his companion sitting at the table. A barely-noticeable smile made way on his lips as he approached the table, the wet leather jacket now under his arm. Noticing a hanger nearby, he'd put the jacket on it, before returning to the table in his dark-blue T-shirt.

"Apologies for the delay, Miss Anderson," he said, tilting his head slightly to the right, and looking at Emily with his green eyes. "May I take it?" he pointed at Emily's own jacket.

The arrival place a smile on Emily's face smooth pale face, she rose from her seat nervously, welcoming the man to her table.

"Of course" she replied, unaccustomed to the gesture. Handing the man her jacket, some water still dripped from it, as she passed her coat gently over, still screwed up.

As the man turned to store her jacket the next to his own, Emily noted his appearance, eyed him up, from the back of his blond hair to the shoes, mostly taking note of his physique,
Somewhat pleased with what she saw, thus far.

"I thought I asked you to stop calling me Miss Anderson?" Emily questioned, after quickly fixing her hair while the man's head was turned, she rushed her make-up so much that she entirely forgot about her hair.

A strand of hair dangling from her face purposely, while the remainder of the brunette hair stayed pulled back by a bobble, forming a ponytail which flowed carelessly down to her shoulders.

Julian's physique seemed like the epitome of average, apart from the fact that he was slightly lean. Black jeans and boots added to the picture. "Apologies, miss... Emily," the smile got a little more evident as he turned back to face his companion. "Old habits die hard."

Julian wasn't fast enough to notice Emily adjusting her hair, but he did catch the very end of the movement. He proceeded to the table, waiting for Emily to sit down, after that he'd take a seat as well. "So, you said you wanted a drink, and it looks like I owe you one. Anything in particular you fancy?"

Emily's blue eyes were fixed on Julian's, only after he asked did she avert her eyes towards the bar, behind it were several colours, and shapes of bottles. Emily wasn't much of a drinker, so her knowledge of beverages was limited. The search continued until she found a bottle with a round bottom, and a narrows stout, filled with a lightening blue. Liberty Ale.

"Oooh" she spoke out, a hint of excitement in her eyes, spotting a familiar brand.

"Liberty Ale, please," she asked politely as she returned her attention to the man before her, gently resting her arms on the table. Emily wished that she could've been a bit more adventurous with her choice, but with the company before her, she didn't want to seem unsure of her choices, even if it was a simple beverage, after all this was the first time the two had come face to face, she needed to assert herself before Julian, let him know she knows what she's doing.

With that thought still in mind, she had a quick thought of how this was her tactic when dealing with diplomatic business back in the day. Those days were long gone for Emily, though those skills still remained with her.

Julian nodded, the smile still on his face. "Liberty Ale it is, on my tab," he nodded to the bartender. "And a glass of scotch for me," he gestured with his thumb and index finger how much of the glass to fill, before turning his gaze to Emily.

"I also remember that since you forfeited the game, I get to ask you a question. I figured I'd ask something I don't know about you yet," he paused, still looking at Emily intently for a few moments, as if trying to figure her out. Back in orbit, she had let slip a lot about who she was, and now it was the time to put the pieces together.

"You're currently a freelancer. Working with the military types, as evidenced by your desire to take jobs against the Enclave. You've just ordered Liberty Ale. And yesterday, you mentioned you used to fly an Avenger. It is a Libertonian ship, and rather restricted one at that," Julian paused, his smile a bit warmer now, as he observed Emily's reaction, while trying not to alert her too much with his conclusions.

"At this point, it's fair to assume you're from Liberty. Maybe with a military or intelligence background. Probably the latter, seeing how Avenger is LSF's toy, and it takes someone who's used to flying it to prefer it over other vessels Liberty has at its disposal," he continued looking at Emily, his head tilted.

But that's the moment when the drinks would arrive, distracting Julian from his train of thought. He'd take the glass of his scotch: "I'd drink to your gambling luck. May it never run out?"

Emily listened intently, Julian's observations and reasoning were sound, she couldn't help herself but be impressed, the man was right, about everything thus far she confessed to herself. Was she really that easy to read?

When the drinks arrived, she licked her lips trying to hide a smile, but it appeared either way.
Emily grasped the glass of ale and raised it to her eye level.

"I digress, I believe you are in need of more luck than I" The dangling hair swayed over her left eye as she spoke. The two shared a smile.
After the pair took a sip from their drinks, Emily confessed to Julian's observations.

"You would be correct, but..." Emily leaned forward, playfully smiling at the gentleman "I don't think there was a question in all of that".

Julian chuckled at the joke, taking a sip. "Oh, do I? I figured I was in luck already," he replied, not too far from truth. Tilting his head to the right, he made his smirk more evident: "It's a matter of perspective."

As Emily's comment about the lack of question arrived, Julian leaned a bit forward too. "You got that right," he had actually been distracted from coming up with a question, but there was no need to show that. "That's because, so far, I haven't had the need to ask one," he looks at Emily intently. "I'll save it until I get into a tight spot with my conclusions."

The two were several inches away from one another, Emily couldn't help herself but feel challenged by this cat and mouse game. She was eager to win. Julian had explained that he also had worked in a field similar to Emily's during her LSF internal affairs position. If she were to win this game, she'd have to pull out the big guns.

Remaining in her original position, her voice turned to a whisper, and a seductive tone at that.
"Oh - And how do you know you'll be able to get out of that -tight- spot?"
Her head now tilted, glaring into Julian's emerald eyes, trying to put him in an uncomfortable position. trying to break him down.

The Libertonian girl sure shot straight, Julian had to give her that. Although he didn't back down, his cheeks did gain a reddish hue... Luckily, that's something that could be attributed to the alcohol. The staring contest continued for a bit longer than Julian would've wanted, as he was searching for a witty reply. But then smirk turned into a confident, if slightly predatory grin, as he remained in the same position: "You'd have to find out."
