"We fight for our brothers, remembered only in ash and dust on a cold, dark orbit around our home star. We fight for our Sisters, who welded and wired our battered spaceframes into action even as the deckplates shuddered around them. We fight for our children, who will not grow old. We fight for the lost, forced into slavery on Volvograd and Jiangxi, made to waste their labour for monsters. We fight so that socialism may not be a word abused as a shield to cover the ego of tyrants. We fight for ourselves, so that we may live to see a better Rheinland, in our time. They who break all ties of unity from greed, from the lust for power, for the desire to crush and control and subjugate, we reject them. We spit on them. We laugh at them. We fight, because they deserve to be fought."
“We’re seeing red tonight.” – Vorarbeiter Korben Pasternak, Wedel Volenteer squadron, 826 AS.

Roleplay Basis:

The Coalition, and the Unioners.

Two response to an age-old question. Two answers, equally valid, to the crises of class divide and abandonment that has faced the poor of man since the invention of modern capital in Earth’s nineteenth century. Where the Unioners stand for solidarity amongst trade Unions, the Coalition call for armed revolution. Where the Unioners believe in bettering the system, the Coalition believe in tearing it down, and starting afresh. One side draws inspiration from Sol’s great, precolonial war, and the other seeks to prevent it from ever happening again. The Syndicalists, and the Communists. Two opposites, born from similar ideals, destined to fight to the death.

The betrayal of the Unionists by the Coalition at Vierlande – and the capture of nearly thirty thousand Unioner inmates at Vierlande, not to mention the destruction of one of the Unions’ ancestral homes, put paid to any illusions of co-operation. Now, the Unioners seek to drive the Coalition back to the edge worlds with any and all resources at their disposal. In kind, the Coalition seek to destroy their ideological rivals and hold thrall over the industrious classes of Rheinland.
Tragedy has made new friends in the darkness. The Unioners and the Federal military – one of the largest employers of the Rheinland’s working classes – have bonded over the military’s conduct within the Sigma war. An unwritten understanding, known to most pilots throughout the federal services, exists; not to trouble the Unioners if the Unioners themselves aren’t committing any obvious criminal acts. Minor acts of mutual assistance have started to emerge, as the Unioners and the Military have started to subtly leak information to one another regarding the counterinsurgency operations, with both sides preferring the devil they know over the dangers of a full-blown totalitarianist revolt. It is rumoured a new faction is starting to emerge within the Rheinland nation based upon this fundamental solidarity.
In mid October, 826 AS, a Rheinland battlecruiser contingent beings refuelling operations in close proximity to the moon of Aalen. Sensing an opportunity to destroy the assembled Rheinland forces, paving access to the system’s interior. Untouched by the political chaos enveloping the Coalition between the loyalists of the pragmatic Premier Mehemed Selim and the ruthless Field Marshall Lukas Keller, the Coalition elements in Stuttgart have operated with significant operational determinism. Seeking an opportunity to damage the reputation of the military, the Coalition attack the assembled military refuelling sight (along with the Kruger merchant Navy transports refuelling them), with what they hope are overwhelming numbers, committing multiple major force elements to the fight across a range of Coalition institutions and service branches.

Yet the Coalition had not factored the consequences of their strategic success at Vierlande. With the Coalition broadcasting their assault on the military across the system, hoping for a stunning propaganda victory, they inadvertently end up broadcasting their actions to the Unioner aligned remenants of the Landwirtrechtbewegung throughout Stuttgart and Cologne, who, incensed at the Coalition’s utilisation of their home-away-from-home at Darmstadt Depot, descend upon the moon of Stuttgart with the full wrath of all the Unioner elements in the region who had lost a brother at the Hamburg massacre, determined to save their brother workers aboard the Kruger transports caught in the Coalition’s gunsights.

The two fleets, combined, are of nearly equal size and stopping power. A unified flotilla of Coalition forces, arrayed against Rheinland’s finest.

Event Phase:

- This will be a mixed fleet action, with Unioners, Kruger, and Federal Forces and Police, temporarily working together against the Coalition.

- Both sides will engage until the other side has no remaining ships.

- Restocking is forbidden as the Unioners have no restock points in the system. The navy and the Coalition are forbidden from restocking for balance.

- New ships may not enter the field of engagement once the battle is joined. If you missed it, don’t worry, there’ll be more.

- Dual razors are forbidden to increase fight longevity and prevent instantaneous kills delivered by fighters as much as possible. If you want to kill people instantly, you need to run the risk of warship fire or self-damage from munitions.

Event Rules:

The event is a simple engagement event, without phases or complexity.

The Event requires Slots.

Event-Only RP Outcomes:

// Any RP outcomes cannot be used externally to this event, except for message dumps. They cannot be used to make territorial claims, and should not be used to action development or GM requests. These will not win the support of the makers of the event. Using this event for actionable diplomacy changes will equate to powergaming.

Coalition Astrospace Forces victory:

The Coalition in Stuttgart look to leverage their position within the system, showing strength and interservice co-operation in the face of internal instability; at least within the Stuttgart system, the Coalition shows a capacity to unify in the face of common enemies. // This has no actual impact over the current Coalition civil disorder plotline. All relevance to that plotline is at the whim of involved characters only.

United Rheinlandic Counterrevolutionaries:

As the ash settles, the Coalition forces are pushed back into the orange fog of the southern Omegas. Emboldened by a victory against a surprise attack that neither side could have individually resisted by themselves, it is likely that these three organisations will further collaborate in turfing the unwelcome revolutionary army out of Rheinland space. Rheinland has bled enough.

RE: [Event] When Hammers Fall - Rheinland Co-operatives v Coalition, Stuttgart, 18th Oct - Reeves - 10-12-2019

If I might make a proposal, I'd say that removing the outcome flavour text and leaving stakes out of the picture would be better for the overall sportsmanship. People behave strangely when they feel something is on the line. The more that this is emphasized as just a skirmish without any canonical posturing, the better.

Slots updated. Probably going to leave the flavour text but with a notification that it is only flavour text and has no actionable consequences. Good suggestion, Reeves.
