[Official Event] - The Kabukicho Affair - Durandal - 11-06-2019

The Kabukicho Affair
New Tokyo
Siege Event

OVERVIEW

Iwai Kazushige, a corrupt high profile KSP official, has recently boarded the Luxury Liner Mackinac for a cruise with the ulterior of meeting the Hogosha in order to sell state secrets for personal gain. Only a few knew of his dealings, including his wife, who overheard him mentioning his itinerary one evening. After years of abuse, she could no longer stand him, and shared the information with a Golden Chrysanthemums representative. The liner would be taking an unofficial, under-the-radar trip to Kabukicho Depot arranged by the Hogosha.

The Golden Chrysanthemums, now aware of the upcoming deal with the Hogosha, mobilise to intercept the official and prevent the deal from taking place. Scouts were placed along potential routes, and the liner was eventually found. With the Mackinac spotted at such a compromising location, it was reluctant to send out a distress beacon alerting everyone in the system. Instead, Kazushige requested backup from his underlings and the Hogosha. The initial GC strike wing caused crippling damage to the engine of the liner, but was eventually driven away by Hogoshan and KSP escorts that arrived at the scene.

Now aware of the Mackinac's location, forces of the Hogosha, State Police and Golden Chrysanthemums are gathering for a confrontation deciding the fate of the liner and the official onboard.

OUTCOME

Golden Chrysanthemums Victory:
Luxury Liner Mackinac is destroyed by the Golden Chrysanthemums. The KSP official is caught in the explosion and successfully assassinated.

With the liner destroyed under suspicious conditions and Orbital Spa executives unwilling to provide much information to avoid upsetting the Hogosha, the incident is shrouded in mystery. Rumors abound amongst the Chrysanthemums of a captured aide to Kazushige who escaped the Mackinac who is being interrogated to serve their movement.

Kusari State Police & Hogosha Victory:
Luxury Liner Mackinac is irreparably damaged and will be decommissioned, but survives the encounter. The KSP official arrives at Kabukicho Depot unscathed.

With relations only improved by the encounter, the police official provides backdoor access to TLAGSNET to the Hogosha as a gesture of gratitude. This access will last for one month.

Annnnd it's here.

Kudos to @Ramke for assisting with the writeup.

Seems this was accidentally locked, it is now unlocked.

RE: [Official Event] - The Kabukicho Affair - Spectre - 11-09-2019

Interesting concept, though are preparations being made to prevent this event from being easily won by the offenders? Siege events I've seen have been known to be favored against the defenders much in the same way that base sieges are. Pyres, Helios, Oubli to some extent, etc.

Will probably show up on KSP.

RE: [Official Event] - The Kabukicho Affair - Durandal - 11-09-2019

I believe we have enough data on how long it takes a bomber swarm to kill something after Pyres to balance this appropriately.

As always, the sieging party will need to use Scorchers to deal real damage here. What we'll do is make a number of destructible liner archetypes with differing hull levels, and choose one accordingly to how many attackers show and in what ships.

RE: [Official Event] - The Kabukicho Affair - Lucas - 11-09-2019

Pyres main issue was the gigantic amount of lag that made it impossible to shoot the bombers, while they had to shoot a stationary target that was impossible to miss.

What are we planning to prevent that?

RE: [Official Event] - The Kabukicho Affair - Binski - 11-09-2019

This is a good step in the right direction.

As to the bomber advantage, can KSP fly anything with flaks? And cruiser missiles are pretty deadly to snubs now because of the speed they can get.

And if it were also opened up to Freelancers, for either side to hire, that would make things really interesting!

Still dreaming of a long version of this where each side had a week or so to take it down/defend. So even if the defenders can't take out the attackers easily, maybe something could be rigged to let them repair the ship, either with supplies, or with repair ships. Repair ships would be amazing!

Since in this case attackers are using gunboats and bombers at worst, if they can't take it down before being driven off, defenders get their chance to regain strength. All we need are the GM's to referee!

EDIT: New username, old nickname, same me.

Do we need to sign up somewhere?

Watch as the 2 hogosha players log.

RE: [Official Event] - The Kabukicho Affair - Jonathan Seabourne - 11-10-2019

Or the handful of OSC players?

Most of us are running liners rather than security, but it would be nice to be listed so we at least have the possibility of defending our own liner. Unless KSP wants to rp a reason to allay Orbital's security concerns, justifying why the Mackinac will be left out to dry?
