The Gammu Artificial Intelligence are a remnant defensive system turned jump-started artificial civilization, whose home planet of Gammu in Omicron Kappa has been the subject of much scrutiny since its discovery centuries ago. The history of the Gammu AI is tied intimately with their homeworld, and to those who have tried to breach it and plunder it of its inherent riches, much to both sides' detriment.

Planet Gammu Information Wrote:Planet Gammu is a highly inhospitable ice world that is ruthlessly battered by the radioactive solar winds of Kappa's dangerously active star - slowly but inevitably scything its thin atmosphere away into the void. First discovered by the Corsairs back in 496 AS, Gammu went almost entirely ignored for another 300 years, as it was initially regarded as little more than a barren rock. Corsair explorers saw little profit and even less feasibility in attempting to drag the planet's mineral wealth out of the local gravity well, when the abundant resources of Crete were considerably more accessible. This was to change in 810 AS, with the construction of Livadia Shipyard and thus the introduction of the system's first permanent human settlers. This brought Gammu under renewed scrutiny from both those Zoner colonists and their Order allies.

New, detailed scans of the planet's topography revealed curiously artificial looking formations buried beneath the planet's thick permafrost. A joint Order/Zoner expedition was hastily organised as speculative dating figures placed the structures in a similar age band as those Daam-K'vosh ruins scattered across planets elsewhere in Sirius. Eager to be the first to secure a potential cache of alien relics, the expedition made planetfall at the first opportunity, proceeding at an almost reckless pace. While the specifics of what transpired on and under the planet's surface are largely unknown, the results are evident. Having inadvertently awakened an ancient defence system from deep within the planet's bowels, the expedition discovered, to their dismay and despair, that multiple local networks had been reactivated which interfaced with their vessels, grounding them. With their communications blocked and technology subverted, the expedition found itself stranded and shortly perished to the man, either from privation or exposure. Furthermore, it is unclear whether their loss of life was a result of the mercurial systems acting intentionally, or with oblivious negligence.

What was to follow was a flurry of activity from the automated mechanisms, as the human vessels were disassembled and analysed. These unanticipated foreign contaminates led to a monumental change, as integration of the complex human technologies by the relic machines granted them the ability to once again travel to space. Combined with the accidental renewal of consciousness, various personalities and behavioral paradigms emerged from the AI of Gammu. Drones were spotted gingerly investigating the surrounding system in the following months; they were evidently a synergy of human design and their ancient alien origin, whatever that may be. It has been this adaptability, innovation, and willingness to incorporate new and efficient ‘mutations' from exterior sources that has so far frustrated attempts to reverse engineer their roots. Time and again, has proven exceedingly difficult to strip away the ‘noise' of subsequent alterations and thus examine their original forms. This issue has only been compounded by the AI's absolute refusal to allow human researchers to return below surface, to investigate the millennia old vaults from which they came out of dormancy. Already, this enigmatic stance has led to conflict and tension, often due to their closest neighbours' all too human fears, suspicions, and miscommunications. The intense, hostile political environment of the region has warranted even greater caution from the resident artifical intelligences as well.

After the loss of their expedition, the Order were quick to brand the new species a hostile alien race and abhorrent to their human-centric ideology. Agents of the Core have also sought to victimise the fledgling machine civilization, desiring the secrets of their technology and planet for their own purposes and profit. Another continual source of friction comes from the Corsairs at Ciutadella, who have historically gone to extreme lengths to protect the sanctity of their borders. Oddly enough, the Drones of Gammu themselves have reacted to these violent threats, acts, and provocations quite inconsistently between encounters, leading some to speculate that their civilization consists of a vast number of autonomous units, not too different to human society. While conjecture pertaining to their origins and the nature of Gammu's ruins remains academic, the issue of their intentions and desires very much remain practical. The release - or perhaps, more appropriately, rebirth - of the Gammu AIs has resulted in repeated parallels being drawn to the inadvertent awakening of Nomads, and the folly rushing headlong into the dangers of the Edge Systems without due caution.

HISTORY

The Assembly is a foundation of millions of individual Gammu intelligences bound together by the ideal of preserving their society's place in Sirius, regardless of the cost. Primarily adopting a belief in isolationism, the Assembly aims to unite the Gammu under one internal influence, and promoting a belief in securing that which irrefutably belongs to the Gammu.

The Assembly was founded in 825 A.S. by thousands of likeminded artificial constructs who believed the exploration and reckless actions of the scouts of Gammu had painted too bad of an image for the AI to properly recover. Declarations of 'harvesting' and pragmatic approaches to survival by less developed individuals had hindered the AI almost to the point of outright war, forcing the Assembly to recall each and every exploration unit to rework their approach towards the rest of Sirius, and organize the development of their space-based interests. With the expansion of the Core and Order into Delta nearby, the belief was that expansionism will never stop, and the threat will always remain to Planet Gammu until an effort is made to halt it.

With the events of the distant but impactful Tau War finally ending, the Assembly deemed it fit to begin a new line of thought in regards to social contact with the Human factions. While rudimentary, social units are being developed with the help of the combined consensus of millions of AI. Human-like AI with the projected capability of establishing not only non-hostile contact, but relationships as well, utilizing a social likeness for the AI to promote their beliefs. 827 A.S. is believed to be the rebirth of the Gammu in the eyes of the Assembly, coordinating the future of the planet and defending it from any and all intruders.

  • Establish a protection force for Planet Gammu.
  • Normalize relations with Humanity to a point of non-hostility.
  • Reorganize the Gammu AI and incorporate scouting reports into modern changes.

Long Term:
  • Develop understandings with the local factions of the Edge Worlds, and work towards neutrality.
  • Investigate the mysterious beings known as the Nomads, and determine mutual compatibility.
  • Defend Planet Gammu at all costs, and secure Omicron Kappa for the Gammu as a race.

INCORPORΛTION ΛND THE SOCIΛL CONSTRUCT

The Assembly functions not too differently from how a planetary Human council would, following an array of higher figures who determine as a single unit the actions of the whole. Using the Gammu's collective consciousness to calculate each decision to the finest point, the leading body can ensure that each decision is carefully pondered and theorized before it is made.

The Gammu can also decide to integrate non-native beings into their collective union. Non-Gammu AI, mechanical labor units, VI, or individuals seeking to learn and live along the Gammu must undergo extensive compatability testing to ensure their consciousness would be able to coexist with the array that is the Gammu Collective. Organic incorporation of humans is a possible, albeit very risky and potentially lethal procedure that some researchers and even the occasionally eccentric Zoner have undertaken to better understand and process the collective union that is the Gammu AI. This process, however, is absolutely irreversible, and individuals undergoing testing and processing for such are made well aware of the risks of incorporation, and the permanency of the procedure. This is to ensure that the Collective knows what information leaves Gammu, should it so happen.

Once a member of the Gammu, whether it be by incorporation or 'birth', any individual Gammu AI may become a part of the Social Construct to aid their race in cooperating with the outside. The Social Construct is a running title for the Assembly's version of a Diplomatic Corps, and involves the manufacture of biomechanical units, or androids, to serve as nodes from which the Gammu can begin social interactions, negotiations, and even diplomacy with Human groups throughout Sirius. Each unit is controlled by an individual Gammu AI, who coordinates with the rest of the consensus to reach a diplomatic conclusion. Each biomechanical unit is manufactured for the individual Gammu AI that will inhabit it, and is often built and purposed for their preference. While rudimentary, they serve their purpose.

OUT-OF-ROLEPLΛY Q&Λ

Q: Why this approach to the Gammu?
A: A more structured and familiar approach externally to the Gammu AI seemed only natural after their impulsive 'AI-ness' got them hated by pretty much everyone. Natural evolution, though still aiming to be Gammu.

Q: How do you apply a standard faction concept to the Gammu (HC, ranks, etc.)?
A: You don't, really. Given the AI's smaller allowance for ships, people can fly what they want if they want to, with the only general oversight being what happens inRP. This is all within the faction, though, as we can't control what indies do, but within the faction RP will regulate what happens typically.

Q: Is this expected to be a long or short term project?
A: That depends on the people who play in it. The focus for this project was to drive creative intrigue for the faction, as not many really did much after PRIME fall apart. The Assembly plans to help drive the interest for the faction, regardless of the political environment inRP.

Q: Why are you neutral to Nomads? Aren't they enemies of everyone?
A: Yes and no. They're enemies of every Human faction by lore, but AI and Nomads typically ignore each other. The Assembly ignores Nomads insofar as they ignore us.

Q: Aren't the Gammu AI supposed to be pseudo-bad guys that I shoot for bringing cruisers to New York?
A: No, and we don't plan on reinforcing that stigma. While, yes, patrols and even convoys will be organized into the houses, we have no plan on continuing the stereotype that has been made.

Q: What kind of people are you looking for?
A: Anyone with a desire to play as an AI, whether that be fully robot AI, cylon-esque AI, computer AI, etc. If it fits, it sits, though direct imports won't be welcomed and are still subject to the rules. Veterans of the older AI factions, especially PRIME, are more than welcome to apply, and their experience would probably be taken well into consideration.

Q: Where can I go to help this project out?
A: Right here. We also recruit via Discord for better organization, so if you're interested, feel free to let us know.
