Fabian Montluc
Dear Messieurs,

I bid you good day. My name is Fabian Montluc, CEO of Montluc Advanced Engineering Inc. I am pleased to contact you, the proud defenders of Gallia and its nobility, and would kindly ask you to consider two requests of mine. Merci pour your time in advance, distinguished Messieurs.

Firstly, I would like to inquire if you have the awareness of whereabouts of my ex-servicemam, Monsieur Francois Charpentier, Lieutenant of Royal Engineering Corps. Monsieur Charpentier is from Burgundy and I believe, he mentioned returning home following the collapse of the Monarchy to continue serving with the Grand Duchy. If you have any information about him, I would greatly appreciate it.

Secondly, I would like to inquire if you would kindly consider Montluc Advanced Engineering to produce Gallic military-grade fighter-class vessels. In particular, we are interested in the rights to manufacture:
  • XJ-1 "Caracal" Gallic Light Fighter
  • XJ-2 "Serval" Gallic Heavy Fighter
  • XJ-3 "Lynx" Gallic Very Heavy Fighter
  • BXJ-5 "Cougar" Gallic Royal Navy Bomber
Montluc Advanced Engineering is a new company established on Quillan, Languedoc, and we intend to revitalise the local economy as the border systems of Languedoc and Dauphine have fallen into disarray following the collapse of the Monarchy. The local forces would benefit greatly from the proper military ships to fend off possible incursions from Sirius and elsewhere. Me being an ex-officer of the Royal Forces and a member of Gallic aristocracy, you have my word of honour that no enemy of Gallia would receive the ships and only the Gallic lawful entities considered non-detrimental to Languedoc and its people would end up owning the ships. Naturally, we are ready to offer our construction, repair, and maintenance services to the MRG be it either capital vessels or fighters.

Availing the opportunity, I would also like to inquire if MAE and MRG might establish cordial relationship of friendship and understanding. We extend our best wishes for the noble successor of the Kingdom of Gallia, the Grand Duke and his trusted forces.

We are open to discussion of the proposals presented above and are looking forward to your reply.

Je vous prie de croire à l'assurance de mes salutations distinguées
Baron Fabian Montluc

Dear Mesdames et Messieurs,

Following the institution of the Gallic Confederation the new shipline is being produced. I reach out to you again with the same request as above but regarding NG series of the aforementioned ships. Same as before, I pledge them not to fall into the hands of the enemies of Gallia but to be used to protect the southern border and strengthen Languedoc wherein law enforcement suffers due to inability of the Minarchy to take care of it.

We are looking forward to your reply and are ready to negotiate the terms.

Je vous prie de croire à l'assurance de mes salutations distinguées,
Baron Fabian Montluc

Sujet : What a surprise.
Paris, 28 décembre 2019

The transmission begins with a frowning d'Argenlieu.

Monsieur Montluc,

Alas, alas. If only we'd had more men of your good dispositions and ample resources during the war... Then perhaps we'd have less vultures, profiteers and eleventh-hour patriots running around the countryside. It sickens me, and in a more civilised time, they wouldn't have a head left on their necks to quack. But perhaps not all is lost yet.

On to your requests, then, monsieur Montluc. I'll be sure to demand that the name of your subordinate be run through our databases ; our headcount is mostly complete but there are many questions left unanswered and people still loose. Such is the hazardous nature of space battles. Which brings me to your second request. In order for you to understand my reply, I will ask that you see things from my perspective.
You're at the head of a new military, whose impossible mandate is to reconcile Gallia in all its divisions. That the conservatists and traditionalists may accept to work with the radicals, the liberals, the socialists... Everyone.
And here comes baron Montluc, whom I know neither from Adam nor Eve, very politely asking whether he could manufacture freshly designed, new generation military ships... For policing duties.

My answer has to be no, of course, monsieur Montluc. I know of neither you or your organisation yet, and we live in very troubled times. Citing your admiration and belonging to the nobility and the ways of old is likely to attract a lot of unwanted attention from people you wouldn't want as even passing acquaintances. I'm not engaged in a witch hunt myself, but I know many are. These are the new ways of Gallia, monsieur le baron. There are entities out there hellbent on restoring the old ways. Entities that have made it very clear that they were an existential threat to our new nation.

To even risk suspicion of affilitation with said entities would not be in your best interests. Tempers run very high to this day, people demand blood and justice. So, I ask that you make yourself known a little more and demonstrate trustworthiness and honour before I might consent to this request of yours. This is for your own safety, as well as your company's freedom. Many like yours have already been nationalised as punishment for sometimes very mild offenses... Oh, and if you've taken to outsourcing Gallic crafts to outsiders without the confederacy's consent... Well, I would prepare my checkbook if I were you.

Be careful out there, monsieur Montluc. Our world has become an unpredictable and dangerous place. Be very careful of whom you choose to associate with.

Salutations distinguées,
CA D.D'Argenlieu

Monsieur d'Argenlieu,

I must thank you for a prompt reply. Your reaction and response are expected and understandable, although disappointing. But surely your prioritising the interests of the state over some corporate plea renders you a professional with a genuine care for the people of Gallia, which I can only commend and admire.

The witch hunts you are referring to might be quite real. Fearing them I fled Orleanais with the family on hearing the news of the republicans making advance in Il-de-France. Luckily, we being a Confederation now, the government is not centralised and those bigots can stay in their precious republique for all we care. Them running the Confederate Military now is a disgrace, though.

The suspicion of yours towards my organisation is understandable. We are new and upstart in your eyes, most likely. But I hope we can prove our use to the Duchy. As for Republic and the Minarchy - I would rather use my freedom of individual and not engage in business with them. As for the spacecraft sold to entities outside, please, allow me to explain our reasoning. Firstly, those are civilian vessels with no strategic significance. The influx of foreign capital can support the post-war rebuilding. And if our military ships are as good as they are claimed to be, then we have nothing to worry about. Secondly, the decision to sell the ships was made during the interregnum period, so technically, no law was violated as no laws were effective. I am still looking forward to see the updated legislation of either Minarchy we are currently acting under (although, I doubt the Minarchy is even capable of it) or of Confederation. This might be a difficult task as we do not even no what is the legislative organ of Confederation and its powers as compared to the Confederacy members' local governments. At any rate, I believe no legislation was violated while many good Gallic citizens got jobs and need financial stability.

Please, accept my kind apologies for asking such an audacious request and taking your time. I wish you well in your new position as the military of the Confederacy.

Je vous prie de croire, Contre-amiral Daniel d'Argenlieu, à l'assurance de mes salutations distinguées,
Baron Fabian Montluc
