Hey hey people.
After years being away, after a lot of hours of StarCItizen, Elite etc I needed to return here.
It seems you guys are tireless and still keeping this alive and strong!
Any hints or tips for a returning player would be welcome!

First tip, check out the green link at the top for the returning player package. Or, If you want to do some mining/transporting in Penny and start the game the best way, hit me up in PM and we can do some stuffs
Second tip, the obvious one, just have fun!

I can recommend for a first ship to save your credits is Kamome with GMG ID.
It's cheap, cargo efficient ship capable to mine perfect ores for beginners, while being efficient nice transport at the same time.
You can
1) Mine Helium(100 units per one shot!, easiest ore), deliver it to Bretonia and return with Gold Ore(if there's one at player bases and quite legal choice) or Artifacts(if you aren't afraid to go illegal way).
2) Mine Helium, deliver it to Sigma-59, Mine there Helium 3 and return with it exactly to helium mining(perfectly legal choice).
Richest profits in the beginning. Getting more money than ship costs just from flying in one way.
