I base my statement on the idea that railguns would be easier to implement as ship to ship weapons, but you don't see energy state projectiles in the game. You also didn't see KEWs used in the story line.

Now, there is certainly enough debris and rock wandering around to use, but getting that sort of thing in a large enough size to survive reentry and up to speed is a nontrivial action and not believable in the timeframe presented. That also completely ignores the fact that it would be an extinction event, rendering the real estate just as worthless as "glassing" the planet.

A bit off topic. but one of the Bretonian weapon models was meant to be a railgun originally. Also one of the pirate weapon models is called "rail daddy" so I assume that was also suppose to be one. Kinetic weapons were also in Starlancer and it's the only weapon type seen in Starlancer that didn't make it to Freelancer.
They likely dropped kinetic weapons early on because of issues with balancing ammo vs energy.
