Bonjour Marechal,

I do believe you have quite a few questions regarding the Mont. Saint Michel and me and my crew. I am here to report for debrief, ask away.

If you intend to gain my trust, it may help to demystify the the circumstances around your defection and subsequent extended period of survival in hostile territory. Begin by recounting these events for me.

First off I take objection to defection, that would imply I ever switched my loyalty to those Counceillards, which I would sooner die than debase myself to something such as that.

As for the actual story of my ship evading capture in Confederate space for so long, the Mont Saint Michel was schedules for outfitting with experimental weaponry around Summer of 742 AGS, if you know of La.Rochelle the plans were to outfit the Michel with similar weapons. I wont bore you with technical details but nevertheless those plans were constantly delayed and then delayed so the ship was simply assigned to security detail in Orleanais until the refit could finally be underway. When Council fleets began rolling in to take over the system, the commander of the defense fleet ordered a retreat back into Il-de-France or the outer reaches of the system if that option was not available. The Nere Cloud was the option I took due to its proximity. The original plan was to wait for Royal Navy forces to push back into Orleans where the Michel could promptly rejoin with the fleet.

Obviously this did not happen with that treacherous cease-fire and the exile of the crown to Aquitaine. Finding oneself suddenly deep in enemy space was not exactly a most thrilling revelation. I believe our only saving grace was the all likelihood that during the retreat to Il-de-France, the Michel was listed as lost in action by Royal Navy personnel and nobody bothered to corroborate the fact with Council forces after the cease-fire, at least that is my theory, I didn’t exactly have the ability to see the naval registers for her status.

In pertaining to the ships survival throughout the months, Epernon served as a decent waypoint for gathering what was needed, trading for anything we looted that was not needed for the maintenance of the ship, didn't exactly need much anyways the ship didn't need to be frontline ready exactly. And ah, “relieving from duty” a few of those with split loyalties lessened the strain on provisions as well. The complete lack of organization from the Council forces until recently was quite the boon and gave quite a lot of leeway in terms of commerce raiding with what fighter craft that we manage to keep operational, though I must admit they have organized scarily fast these past few months and opportunities that would not blow our cover were getting worryingly thin. Estimates had us at about 2 weeks worth of provisions by the time we finally managed to meet up with your forces. I heard chatter about a group of Royal Fighters in Orleans and decided it was worth the risk to see if we could finally rejoin with the rightful rulers of Gallia, none of this Confederate bullshit. Clearly it payed off.

This should be a short summary of the events, if you want a more detailed account or if you want to corroborate my tale, all the logs from the ship's computer should all be available in your terminal. I assure you they have not been tampered with and any investigation regarding such should show no foul play involved.

It will take some time before you have my trust, as a deserter it’s a wonder that your vessel was not destroyed. If your story is true, then your survival is truly a testament to the levels of incompetence among the rebel command, as even I would have thought them capable of destroying a single cruiser. I suppose it is certainly possible that they let you go. This wouldn’t be the first case of impotence demonstrated by the Royal Navy since its abandonment of duty.

What do you intend to do now that you have returned? You must have had something in mind when you approached one of my fighter squadrons in Orleanais.

I have no illusion otherwise, trust is a fragile thing and something that everyone must earn. Especially in these tumultuous times with the sorry state Gallia is in. I would very much prefer to remain commander of the ship, but as a compromise she will need new crewmen to be brought back up to a full compliment, place your most loyal men among the crew, I have zero intention to betray the crown, and am willing to take any opportunity to prove such. Once she is ready I plan to return with the ship to active duty; the Marechaussee could always use another heavy asset I’d imagine. Me and my crew have learned a few tricks for being stranded so long in hostile territory, said skills may prove useful to you in the future. Though the ship should probably be rechristened. The Mont Saint Michel was part of those fleet of traitors, the Marine Royale, after all, rather bad luck of a name if you ask me. All of this depend on your approval of course.

Regarding the ships refitting and repair, if I may be so bold, I have an idea. I did mention there were plans to outfit the Michel with experimental weaponry, in short they are a downsized version of the Mons Meg cannon typically fitted to battleships, they don’t offer the range and power of a fully sized cannon yet can be fitted to smaller ships such as an Obstinate-class Battlecruiser. The Mont Saint Michel has already underwent the initial preperations to fitting them, we just need the final piece, the weapons themselves. Though procuring them is easier said than done, Melun should have some data on these weapons. Please tell me we managed to recover something from Melun before it fell to the Counceillards?

Very well.

I am pleased to see that you are not attached to the name of your ship. The historic, geographical designations preferred by the Royal Navy are quaint, but hardly fitting of an Enclave capital ship. We will discuss the possibilities once the ship has been re-fitted, re-crewed and is ready for action.

Resources are tight, and our manufacturing capacity has been lessened somewhat by the rebel takeover in the core. Yet you will be pleased to hear that Issoudun Shipyard is well equipped to maintain and build the full range of ships and armaments previously available to the Gallic Royal Navy. Provided the necessary materials are available, fitting your ship with the aforementioned experimental weaponry should not be a problem.

You will be appointed one of my quartermaster sergeants as your second in command. They will be able to facilitate the replacement of any crew, and act as my liaison aboard your vessel. Should your competence or loyalty be in question, their authority will be absolute.

Your new second in command will contact you within the day. Bonne chasse, Aspirant Berranger. Do not fail me.
