Subject: Notice of Treaty Violation

Guten tag,

During Minister Stewart's earlier communication, he informed you that our copy of the Boorman Treaty was lost in the destruction of the FCO Building. While the full text of the treaty remains lost to us, we were able to recover fragments of data from the server, and included in that was a few partial provisions of the full treaty.

In our review of this fragmentary data, it came to our attention that the Federal Republic of Rheinland is presently in breach of the terms of the Boorman Treaty. While perfectly permissible under the Snowdown Treaty, signatories are - in order to avoid escalating inter-house tensions - forbidden from engaging in military buildups in the border systems by the Boorman Treaty. The presence of the Altenburg Battlegroup in Omega-7 would constitute an unlawful buildup of military forces in a neutral border system - similar in principle to the Rhienland Military’s illegal incursions into Nottingham in 800 AS.

Now, I'm sure you're going to tell me that the deployment of the Battleship Altenburg (and the Schwerin preceding it) is not a provocation to the Kingdom of Bretonia, but a proportionate measure to suppress piracy and secure civilian shipping in the Omega Trade Corridor. Securing trade is a desirable goal for both of our nations, and the Omega systems are full of threats that warrant the attention of a full Military Battlegroup. Unfortunately, your government has instead chosen to fall back on the outdated Boorman Treaty, and as such, pressing questions could be raised about how appropriate this deployment is.

We are, however, willing to waive these concerns regarding the Altenburg under the condition that you agree to begin negotiations on a new Omega Treaty to better define relations between our two great nations. The Boorman Treaty is at this point hopelessly ill equipped to accommodate the modern political realities of Sirius. It was not drafted with the emergence of a Fifth House in mind, nor was it ever considered possible that any one of our nations could find itself subject to a genocidal war of aggression that posed an existential threat to its people’s very survival.

Bretonia does not wish to see Omega 7 or Nottingham left unguarded, and the Pan Omega Trade Corridor has regretfully been left under-supervised for far too long. Reverting to the Boorman Treaty simply leaves our peoples in a poorer position, and provides a free hand to the criminals the Battleship Schwerin was originally deployed to dissuade. A renewed and invigorated Omega Treaty would provide both of our Houses with a sound legal footing for securing our mutual diplomatic and economic interests for the years to come.

We are happy to ask the Republic of Liberty or the Reformed Empire of Kusari to host these negotiations and provide impartial mediation services should you wish to conduct these negotiations on neutral ground.

In Her Majesty's Service,

SUBJECT: RE: Notice of Treaty Violation

Lady Sarah Mountbatten,

The Bundesrepublik of Rheinland firmly rejects your claims about Altenburg. The deployment of Battleship Macduff on the border, the illegal occupation of Aland Shipyard and Bretonia's renaming of Omega-3 and its solars in order to fabricate a territorial claim on this recognized Border World constitute acts that force us to respond in order to defend the interests of our House as well as the population that is living in this neutral zone.

Thus we reject the claim that this is a buildup instead we insist that this is merely a lawful response to avoid a possible blockade of Omega-7, the 'nationalization' of Freeport 1 and Rugen Station or other Boorman Treaty violations. Furthermore, it is a temporary, not a permanent situation and as soon as Bretonia reverses course we will be happy to withdraw our forces in return.

Regarding a possible new Omega Treaty, the government of Rheinland has no interest in signing a new one with an unreliable partner that may violate it at any opportune moment or interpret its clauses as it sees fit.

From the Ministry for Foreign Affairs,

Hans Averbach-Schmitz

Herr Averbach-Schmitz,

The lack of interest in negotiating a better, more suitable treaty in favor of needlessly escalating tensions where none previously existed is most unfortunate. Her Majesty's government has always honored her agreements with the Bundesrepublik, and as such Rheinland has no grounds to accuse us of being unreliable. Rheinland, on the other hand, has taken an amicable relationship between our two governments handed to the current administration by their predecessors and flushed it straight down the toilet in the name of domestic propaganda. The current administration has torn up treaties until they found an outdated one that we're both apparently in violation of, and then denied Rheinland's own violation of such in an act of breathtaking hypocrisy. The current administration has also made demands on internal Bretonian policital matters, as well as on Bretonia's diplomacy with certain non-governmental organisations who are already satisfied with the state of affairs as it is, neither of which have any bearing on relations between our two Houses. The current administration risks the lives of the brave men and women in the Rheinland Military attempting to provoke us into responding to pointless incursions into Nottingham. All of this only reinforces my opinion of the current leadership in the Bundestag. In short, I think you're all idiots.

Now, I'm going to keep the rest of this simple, so someone of your limited intellectual prowess can understand it. In the face of all these pointless provocations, Her Majesty's Government is going to take the following action:

Nothing.

We're going to do nothing at all to increase tensions. This is entirely on you and the rest of the Rheinland leadership. As long as you keep your military's ships on your side of the border, we'll do the same, and life goes on as it should. You're free to continue your virtue signalling campaign to manipulate the Rheinland people into letting you keep your jobs with no interference from us.

All that being said, shame on you. None of this is at all necessary, and you're attempting to play games with people's lives, lives that you're personally responsible for, in hopes of shoring up your poll numbers. You're poor stewards to your nation, and the Rheinland people will come to see it sooner or later. They deserve better, and I only hope you don't ruin too many of their lives before they realize how they've been taken in.

I look forward to speaking with your successor.

In Her Majesty's Service,
