OSI Log: Whalium Ore - Promotheus - 04-29-2020 ⧫ Research Log 29-04-827 A.S. ⧫ A whale of a find ⧫ Planet Pygar ⧫ 17:45 Sirius Time. ⧫ ENCRYPTION: Narwhal[V] A Whale of a find. Open Space, Omicron Theta 15:20 SMT
The whale class transport OSI-Promotheus had departed from the Freeport in the Omicron Theta system after
having transported some supplies for the Freeports biodomes when an urgent communication came in from the surface of Pygar. “Attention OSI vessel, please redirect course to the planet as soon as possible! We found something OSI will want to see immediately.” With some time to spare between convoys and with dreams of potential credits to be earned (after all, why else would it be of interest to OSI?) the Promotheus adjusted its course for the planet. “Affirmative, we are on our way.” The captain of the vessel had a knack for never introducing himself personally, only referring to himself as the captain of the OSI vessel Promotheus even when delivering orders to clients. It would seem he would not break tradition today. Crystal Caverns, Planet Pygar 17:25 SMT “Alright, what is so important? You sounded like you just found a large fleet of battle whales covered in an ocean of scrubbies waiting for us in the caverns.” The captain spoke, a serious look on his face. Meanwhile his Zoner counterpart was just staring, blinking his eyes several times with a look of disbelief, had he really said something that ridiculous? “At…any rate, yes. We found something special alright. A whole load of it too, please follow me.” With a shrug the captain followed, walking through passage after passage. Each area was connected by tunnels and filled to the brim with refugees from Gran Canaria, a grim reminder of the atrocities Zoners had to go through lately thanks to House greed and desperation. Eventually the Zoner finally stopped, causing the captain to look over his shoulder. “Well? Why did we stop?” he asked, a puzzled expression on his face. At that point the Zoner turned around and picked up what appeared to be a purplish rock and said: “Here, you brought your scanner right? Scan this.” The captain, ever curious, did as was requested and let the device scan the colorful rock. Scan results: [UNKNOWN]. With a raised eyebrow the captain looked at his fellow Zoner again and said: “Unknown? We’re Omicron Supply Industries, we transport pretty much everything in this sector.” He squinted his eyes and looked more closely at the rock before adding: “Just what are you…” Corinth Research Station, Omicron Kappa 22:55 SMT, two weeks later “I’m glad you arrived when you did..err, I don’t believe I caught your name?” a middle aged lady in a lab coat spoke while glancing at the captain of the OSI-Promotheus. “Just call me captain and yes, we were flying by and we wanted to see if you made any progress yet.” The lady raised an eyebrow, pausing only for a moment before continuing: “Yes, well, ‘captain’, we have made significant strides in analyzing the material you brought to us.” She walked over to a fairly large screen and pulled out several holographic charts before continuing: “The rock itself is, of course, not remotely interesting. What’s interesting is what appears to be the substance that gives it its color, much like an ore it can be extracted and used. In fact, I’d say it -is- an ore.” The captain glanced at the charts, not exactly in his element as he tried to keep up with the scientists words. “So it’s an ore then? Is it useful?” The lady seemingly stopped in her tracks before turning and staring him straight in the eyes. “Useful? Useful!? Whatever you found on Pygar has extremely unique properties! It is among the sturdiest of materials we have found, and light as a feather! Oh I shiver to think of the possibilities! Maybe this material was even used by the creators of those ruins on Pygar so many years ago. We know so little of them, but it would surely explain why they would settle on such a desolate world.” The captain gave her kind of a glare before adding: “You mean like the rest of us Zoners, to whom that ‘desolate world’ is now the home world of? That world?” The lady, seemingly caught offguard by her own rudeness being pointed out let out a small cough and said: “Yes, well ahem, at any rate, we will be able to do a lot with this captain. To make up for my rudeness, and since you were the one that brought it here, what do you want to call it anyway?” The captain pondered for a moment, he hadn’t exactly expected to name something, let alone a unique ore. With a sigh he walked up to one of the windows and looked out towards the docking moors. “I’ll have to run it by the higherups of course, OSI’s board members will have to approve." His eyes then landed on his trusty ship, the Whale class transport Promotheus, stubbornly misspelled to spite those with a better education than himself. With a smirk he added: “But for now, let’s call it Whalium Ore.” |
