Prefix tags vs. Suffix tags - Skyelius - 05-09-2020

Hey guys,

Quick seasonal poll on the current community preference of prefix tags (>TAG<_Name) versus suffix (Name_>TAG<) tags for player groups.

No need to discuss, but feel free.

Thanks in advance,
Sky

I do believe prefix tag is much better than suffix

The prefix of course, since it's easier to find group of the same players in the player list

I'm still upset the Aoi tag was changed to [Name]|Aoi

I've always thought for ease of sorting in the player list and aesthetics that prefixes are the superior option.

Let's raise the topic to Aoi since they became active again.
|Aoi! Become Aoi|

Definitely prefix, for purposes of playerlist scumming ease of identification of different factions.

You can't protect a suffix tag with a password.

Whoa! I'm surprised that's a thing... thanks for the info.

My experience is that suffix tags for groups/clans somewhat "internet-proof" people in multiplayer games because of how lazy players tend to be with calling others out.
  • People see "KEK_Taylor" and they'll call them "kek".
  • People see "Taylor_KEK" and they'll call them "taylor".

Granted, prefix tags are somewhat the "norm" in Microsoft's Freelancer due to how IFFs work (IFF - Name), so it may be more "natural to the game" for groups to use prefix tags.

Thanks everyone for the input so far.

Sky

also without using prefix people lost a chance to use commands
/fi Prefix //inviting all faction members
/fm Prefix Message //message to all members of faction
or to restrict their base friendly access to one tag only
