Quantum Multiplexors in the Real World - Xoria - 06-16-2020 Quantum Multiplexors are a fictional commodity I made up, but I based the commodity on a possible application of quantum mechanics. Quantum computers and quantum communication are still largely theoretical, but a real world application has been achieved: https://theconversation.com/chinas-quantum-satellite-enables-first-totally-secure-long-range-messages-140803 I've thought for a long time that two obstacles to true interstellar travel must first be overcome: applied quantum computing, and sustainable fusion. My guess is that the former is also a prerequisite to the latter. With the computing power and the energy, maybe we can achieve non-conventional travel, if physics allows it. On the flip side, imagine all the evil that can be accomplished with unbreakable crypto-communications. Or maybe just endless cat memes. Evil cat memes? What will our interstellar neighbors think of us? We won't know because we won't be able to crack their quantum crypto-comms before they create a singularity at Earth's core to make the cat memes stop. Anyway, interesting time to be alive. RE: Quantum Multiplexors in the Real World - Hokan - 06-16-2020 Honestly, you had me at Cat Memes. RE: Quantum Multiplexors in the Real World - Groshyr - 06-16-2020 Xoria exists |
