SSV Cantankerous - Leo - 03-23-2009 "You're sure it's the best among the wrecked one's we've found so far?" I asked the Junker engineer beside me. "Yes. All the other ones have either been torn to scrap over the past few centuries, been destroyed by Ion storms, or worse. This is the only one we found with any kind of hope for. Here's the list of supplies we're going to need to fix her up. We'll tow her to a shipyard of your discression and have her drydocked until we can get her systems up and running enough to even stay onboard for extended periods of time." he replied. "Alright. Thanks. I'll let you know where we want it towed to, probably Malta's Drydock if they will allow it." "Roger that, keep me informed." he said and walked off. I stared out of the window of the Junker Salvager. For the past few months we had been looking for a suitable Flagship for us to use. None of the others in Sirius would do. The Junkers were too protective of their Salvagers for us to be able to use them. Understandable considering they were passed down through Junker families. The Outcasts ships were far too technological for our use, and we couldn't smuggle very well in them, far too flashy. Corsair ships...well, I simply didn't like the looks of them. The only thing left was to find an old liner, buried in the rubble of time, deep in a debris field somewhere. Several months later I had done just that. I hired a few Junkers, gave them good pay to comb the fields of Sirius for an old liner that would do the job of serving as the Smugglers Coalition flagship. I had done just that, and discovered probably one of the oldest ones in Sirius, but the only one still holding together. It wouldn't be easy, we would have to purchase a lot of materials to get the ship back up and running. We would have to exchange goods for Hull Parts, raw ore to be processed, Engine Components...it wouldn't be easy...it really wouldn't. I picked up the phone, holding it to my head. "Patch me through to Planet Malta please." SSV Cantankerous - Leo - 03-24-2009 "Cartagena Shipyards, this is Kristine 'Halloween' Velencia. We have an old Liner that is in need of some repairs. I have clearance to move it into the drydocks aboard the station. Sending now." "Clearance recieved. You are to tow the ship into Drydock 2. The anti-grav couplers will lock on to the ship and mount it in place. After that you must come aboard to sign a few documents. After that is completed, you and your crews can begin working on the ship." "Roger that Cartagena. En-route." The Junker Salvager towed the ship into range of the Drydock and as soon as it did, invisible locking arms froze the ship in place. A small docking arm came down and locked on to the top of the ship, filling it with artifical gravity and an atmosphere capable for the teams to breathe in. Two cables drifted down and connected near the bay to give the ship emergency power. As the cables connected, sparks eminated from parts of the ship and ancient force fields went up in the holes of the ship, preventing any air from escaping. My Eagle landed swiftly on the docking platform and I climbed out, landing with a loud clank on the deck. I walked up to the clerk. She handed me a few papers and I read them through in their entirety. I signed the ones I understood and asked questions on the ones I didn't. She helped me with the papers until they all were signed. "Still trying to bend the rules eh?" said a voice behind me. I turned and saw my father tapping his lips thinking to himself, he stopped and smiled. "How ya doin' kiddo?" "Dad!" I said and lept into his arms in a big hug. He only laughed to himself and patted me on the head. "Nice to see you too. What's this I hear about an old Liner you found in the Dallas Field in Texas?" I looked out the window at the liner and smiled. "I did. We've got to start shipping hull parts and other items to the shipyards to get things underway, I haven't even been inside the thing yet. I'm sure it's a mess." "Well then o' daughter of mine. Lets go do it together. I've got some free time for today, I'd love to spend it with my beautiful daughter." I laughed and linked arms with my father as we walked up to the docking platform. SSV Cantankerous - Leo - 03-24-2009 "Ma'am. The first supply of Basic Alloy's have arrived at the port, we're going to start work on the ship." the lead engineer said over the secure comms. "Roger that, make sure you're careful, the metal has been weakened from the extended time it's been in space." "Will do ma'am." "Seems you have things under control." said my father next to me. "I'd like to think so...some days it's not so easy..." We arrived at the port into the ship and my father climbed in first. I followed soon after and a few moments later, I landed on the bridge of the old Liner. The smell of rot and must filled the air. I gagged and covered my nose and mouth with my shirt. "What is that smell?!" I said muffled through my shirt. "That is rot my dear. Probably a dead carcass somewhere on the lower levels...or carcasses...looks like some of the systems still function." he said accessing a few systems from the comm station. "Stay sharp for anything that might look out of place. We need to get a detailed plan of the ship to see what needs fixed." "Getting into it huh?" I said with a smile. "You know fixing up old ships is my first love...lets keep moving, I'm sure there is more..." |
