The Guild Council Archives

Bounty Hunters Guild Council Archives - Athenian - 03-27-2009

A small party enters the austere hall.

The Guildmasters sit behind a long oak table: Graves, Cheshire, Elonen, Stoat, Carson, De Virgo, Radford, Rosalind. Two seats are empty - the Rheinland Chapter is still selecting its second representative, however the other empty seat belongs to Guildmaster Max Jones, and is empty for reasons that will soon become clear.

Two guards escort the accused into the room, and seat him in a chair in the middle of the floor.

Guildmaster George Graves speaks.

"The one before us stands accused of violating the Guild's most sacred laws. Let his accuser speak."

One of the Guild Masters stands up and starts reading a sheet of paper.

During this trial you will be required to explain your actions and the reasons for which you took them. You will be allowed to present any evidence you may have to support your claims.

He takes a short look on the accused and then continues on reading.

Captain, you have been summoned before this council under the charges of endangering the Bounty Hunters Guild Core property, namely Bounty Hunter Guild Core Battlecruiser Estal, which led to destruction of the said vessel. Secondly, you have been charged with commandeering and endangering another Bounty Hunter Battlecruiser. Thirdly, you have been charged for violation of direct order from Guild Master Max Jones, and ignoring his later requests for an explanation.

Guild Master looks down to him.

How do you plead?

a. I never refuse the order, perhaps if i not understand exactly what is the order
b. I entered the battle only when our fellow brothers in trouble, if pirates attack the base, or i see lawful peoples in danger. I not get order to leave out the battle.
c. I leave the system after my ship blow up
d. I explain my action if ask me, if my behaviour does not fit.

Of course if I did bad thing, I accept the penality.

Henceforward serving with faithfulness:

Guild Master continues.

"Your plead has been noted, we will take your words as "Not guilty.". We will first hear testimony of the witness."

He turns to one of the guards at the doors.

"Please call in Max Jones."

The guard exits the room. After a brief moments he returns.

"He is not here. Shall I wait outside for him?"

"Please do."

Guard exits the room. Guild Master continues.

"It would appear that Max will be running a bit late. Until then, we can take a short pause. If you would all..."

Guard opens the doors.

"Here he comes, your honour."

"Good, good. Call him in."

Max enters the room.

"Gentlemen... I must apologise for my appearance. My ship got stopped and boarded by a group of Corsair slime. After dealing with them I had no time to change my clothes."

"Apology accepted, Max. We all know how Corsairs can be. Please take a seat."

Max approaches his seat and sits down.

"Now, please describe the events for which this person here is being accused."

"Gladly... I was notified about a Nomad intrusion into Omicron Delta, in which the Estal battlecruiser was destroyed, so I redirected my battlecruiser to Iota jump hole. By the time I got there the Nomads already withdrew inside. To make sure the area is clear I ordered a jump into Iota. Unfortunately, we ran straight into 3 Nomad ships, a battleship code named "Harbinger" and two smaller unknown ships classed as heavy gunboats. We were immediately engaged. We sent a distress signal to our fleet in Delta. As they were approaching, captain of the "Estal" somehow managed to commandeer one of the new battlecruisers from Dabadoru. After our fleet came to assist the battlecruiser came with it. As it was a newly built still untested ship I ordered it not to engage in combat, and return home. At first I was sure he listened, seeing our scanners were concentrated on the Nomad ships, but in the later report I saw that the new battlecruiser managed to take out one of the heavy gunboat classed vessel, which indicates the order was not fallowed. Even though he managed to take out one of the Nomads ships, these actions are still unacceptable."

Max finished, and the Guild Master turned to the accused.

"After hearing this testimony do you still stand by your claims to have not committed any of these acts?"

Cheshire ( in a low tone to the guildmaster ):
"i am very much afraid - i have been busy with afairs concerning the ever changing infrastructure of kusari and the increased travel and activity of the goverment and the pirates - which isn t always easy to distinguish in kusari.

excuse my predicament - but on what carta do we judge here? - as it is omicron space - and an open warzone, i am most certain that judgement is not executed based on what we would do in kusari where even a subtle gesture or a wrong word at a wrong time can put you into a political dilemma which affects the whole of our faction.

furthermore, i gotto say that i am not a [Core] member of course but rather overlooking our activities in kusari space. we leave our hunters the freedom to make their own decision - after we informed them of the necessary courtesy towards the rigid kusari political structure."

Graves (whispering to Cheshire as the accused captain gathered his thoughts):

<div align="right]"That reminds me. How is Deshima these days? I recall there used to be some work against various Kusari gangs, but the war in Bretonia seems to be the Emperor's priority."

"But I digress. The evidence against this individual is damning. I have seen the scans and the comms records."

He discretely handed a small brown folder to Cheshire.

<div align="right]"The actions of one affect us all. You think all the profits from the deuterium shipped via Deshima go to the Widows and Orphans Fund? Much Kusari technology goes into our manufacturing processes in 56 which in turn produces the vanguard craft of the Core missions."

He leaned closer.

<div align="right]"But more importantly, Guildmaster, your voice here is important. I'm sure there are many on Dabadoru who'd like to skin this one alive just on Jones' word. But you are a man of reason and your voice could be the difference here."

Cheshire examined the folder.

Cheshire ( aloud ):

i vote "aye" for a reduced punishment - a warning. the full punishment is inappropriate in my opinion. in times of freedom, a rigid chain of order and command is a neat thing to have - in times of war... though, matters can change within seconds - seconds that cost lifes. - a captain is not promoted to captaincy cause he follows orders blindly - but he is promoted to that rank cause he actually thinks of orders and interprets them.

if a captain sees the necessity to act against his orders - but for the good of us all against a common foe - it would be a poor sign to punish him for that... for all we know ... there might be a situation where the orders misjudged a situation and a captain that actually had his brain turned on would have saved the situation.

a warning must be done - the captain must know that he acted against the order chain, a vital and crucial element of the military structure. - but we should not discourage our personel from thinking situational about orders. what good is a captain that is a mere puppet then.

(whispers to Graves)

deshima? - a quite paradies... no work for the guild in kusari means i got a clean desk. - our strategy is to bide our time. - statistics show that the unlawful activity skyrocketed - while the KSP is like non existant and the KNF fights in leeds.

they ll soon be begging us to assist them ... and once they do, we ll offer them our special kusari guildprices - but i don t know if i look forward to that day... it might mean more work.

Maxmillian DeVirgo leaned back in his chair.

The Guildmaster for Rheinland simply nodded his head in agreement with the proposed punishment.

He then spoke aloud. "This punishment is light, in my opinion, but this is both a first offense for the captian involved, and well within our precepts. A captain that is willing to learn from his mistakes - AND remain lawful - is certainly able to be rehabilitated. We have too many captains that are not willing to learn, no doubt from their histories."

Respected Guild Council,

Please let me say some words to my defense!

I remember this situation.
I patroling in Omicron Delta, near the Iota jump hole. All of sudden two nomad ship appeared from Iota jump hole and attack me. Nobody help me, then my vessel destroyed.
I ejected, and fly to Dabadoru station, and on the way i thinking about my fellow brothers in Iota who will die.
I saw an emergency message from a BHG member - I do not remember who he was.
I go to my Battle Cruiser, and leave out the Omicron Delta to Iota. I want help to other in Iota, and i not thinking about re-engage is prohibited. I don't remember that Max order me to stay out from battle, perhaps i not understand he or i not listening enought. Sorry for my speaking, im not able to speak natively in this language.
I never refuse the order intended.

I always want to be a member of this guild, a member of lawful guild and sacrifice my life to other member of BHG with pleasure.

If my act is unforgivable i accept the penality of Council.

This is my defense, no more.

Captain of BHG|Core-Estal
