Super-weapons(?) - Binski - 12-18-2020 Any plans for a new super weapon? NEMP's being removed, in my opinion, is one of the worst decisions ever. It would be nice to see a new version, perhaps one less potent, but still a super weapon. Why not get creative and change the weapon effect so it only causes ships within range a certain % of damage to their ships. So if a few ships were caught within range of the weapon, as example, it could automatically half those ship's hull strength. That means it wouldn't be able to kill a ship or group but serve as a mass damage augmentor. As a fleet battle begins, an 'area weapon' torpedo like that would give each side a chance to quickly reduce groups or large capitals. Especially for base sieges, having a bunch of those might be worth some work to help your chances of fighting off a sieging fleet, despite being outnumbered or outgunned. Another possibility would be to make the weapon destroy the shield generator of ships hit (until they respawn/dock). These would then at least still serve as a super torp option giving it more than normal value, requiring players to spend big for additional super abilities. People would have something else to buy/sell/trade on the player market. Having this stuff is really important in the end, it opens up a lot of possibilities, and creates more reasons to trade and consume. For the first half of 2019 I mined around 1000 units of scidata and got a bunch of NEMP's on the 'open market' and was stoked for the chance to use them, and they were yanked shortly after. But when there was a chance to use them for something that might have actually effected a battle or the war, I had no problem grinding for it. We could certainly use a modified NEMP. RE: Super-weapons(?) - Darius - 12-18-2020 No. Just no. RE: Super-weapons(?) - Saronsen - 12-18-2020 no thanks RE: Super-weapons(?) - Misfit - 12-18-2020 I really like the idea of super-weapons (as someone who got 5 blues at once with a NEMP, of course I would), but in reality there's too many people that have too much money that would be able to buy like nine of them per day where an ordinary person would probably take a week to earn the money to buy just one. Even introducing some kind of means test based system to distribute them would lead to people just selling them off to those people who just want to nuke things for no reason (or worse, using them to target factions/players that can't afford to fight back), or just sitting on them not doing anything meaningful with them. RE: Super-weapons(?) - The_Godslayer - 12-18-2020 Suncrusher for K'hara, Leeds keker for Enclave, popular opinion for Xenos, and Wesker for Hessians. Those factions are the ones trusted to not be uber-petty about what they shoot with their god-weapons. K'hara is headed by an entire GM, even if they wanted to evacuate their bowels into the NY star, Connor would never let us. Enclave flexed their baguettes on bretonia so hard that bretonia never recovered inrp or oorp. Xenos is Xenos, no further explanation needed. Hessians have the most feared bio-weapon on the entire server, to the point where it was outlawed in rule 0.0, but is still used from time to time because not even server rules can stop this weapon of mass instruction. There are enough super weapons on the server. Learn to use them. Don't make more. Beg Connor to let us drive the big phallic object to a nearby system slated for removal and begin our ultimate offensive. God knows I've been. Shoot some warwolfs at a planet, have a laugh. Become too smart for your own good, worked for Reeves. Or, learn to be violence incarnate. I already had to get prescription sleeping pills to fight off the nightmares caused by Sci Data armors existing. Money sinks should be cool and good cosmetics. And ideally lots of them. Not boring "I win (a little)" buttons. RE: Super-weapons(?) - Binski - 12-18-2020 (12-18-2020, 03:47 PM)Haste Wrote: I'm not a big fan of purchasable PvP advantage. To me its that exact attitude that helps keep the server in a lower state of life, and always has. Its simply a fun and enticing concept (to prospective players) who havent been here yet to pick up the bad habits of those who try to stop other players from doing...anything that works against them. Most people don't get like that until they pick it up from existing players. My argument is, ignore the contrarians please! NEMP's were only removed to spare inconvenience to the impatient, who seem to only log for pvp or sieges but refuse to accept some risk that they may get beaten by a surprise, one that someone worked hard for. The entire concept makes for epic battles. To me, its as weak as it coud be to remove NEMP's to appease those who claim they are here for an rp server but have to always win every battle. Bombing enemy fleets with super bombs is boring to you? Paying millions for paint jobs or unique lighting effects is what I consider boring. I like the option to be there for sure, so why not both? I honestly can't believe NEMP's were yanked, and not just adjusted, to save a few players 30 minutes. If they had become very frequent, the value must change, thats all. We don't inflate vlaues here and thats always been a mistake too. When things get too common, devs always go for the stats of equipment, instead of jacking up the cost! |
