I totally agree! Pioneer has become my other Freelancer. With one change to the engines to give ships a reasonable in-system FTL it could basically be a full scale Freelancer (Pretty sure thats what the original Elite: Frontier was like? but I dont think it had our solar system).

If they gave ships an in-system warp that travels at light speed, we could do 1 AU in 500 seconds. That's more than enough, Earth to Mars would be between 10 mins at closest, and maybe under an hour at its furthest point. Maybe 1.5- 2 hours for inner solar system to the outer gas giants. Double light speed would be even easier. Meaning no more need to speed up the clock to do trips in reasoable time, and more than one player could fly the same world in real time. I'd also love to take that version of our Solar system and make a Starlancer mod out of that alone, using that kind of light speed engine concept. Trade routes could go Earth to Mars, Jupiter, Saturn. Plenty of moons and asteroids to swing by on the way...

It would also be amazing just to fly around our solar system at those speeds just to simulate it and see what it would look like!
