Story of the Unbeliever - Simsonator - 03-29-2009 Alarms ran throughout the ship's many corridors, echoing off the bulkheads with a metallic ring. The commander's voice crackled over the many intercom terminals covering the working spaces of the Battlestar Rubicon. "Brace for Impact, all viper pilots report to your ships immediatly. Dradis contact has been established" Simeon Tresher pulled himself from his bunk the first moment he heard the Commanders voice. Along with the other pilots of his watch, he pulled his flightsuit on and ran to the door. With words of encouragement from the crew as he passed he ran to the port hanger bays. Calling the spanner monkeys away from his Viper Mk II he vaulted into the cockpit and started up the systems. Preliminary checks were all clear and he was ready to launch. With the ground crews moving him into the lauch tubes he contacted flight control. "Flight Control this is 'Bane' all my systems are clear, get me the frak out there" The reply came swiftly. "Roger that Bane, launching in 3...2...1" The Viper lurched forward with a sickening jolt, leaving Simeon's stomach back in the launch tubes as his Viper was propelled from the Rubicon. Quickly scanning the space with his eye sight he spotted the oncoming enemy force. Charging up his weapons systems he targeted the nearest sabre and opened fire. His vampire cannons started breaking down the sabre's shields and within seconds Simeon could see the hull starting to break under the barrage of his continued fire. Taking aim he fired one final blast and saw the cockpit crack and the pilot get flung from his seat by the empty vacuum. Swinging his Viper round within its own length he met up with several of his wingmates and poured all fire into a Falcata that was preparing to launch at the Rubicon's Starboard Aft Sensor Arrays. Suddenly his shield warnings started screaming at him, warning him that he was receiving heavy fire from his 5 o'clock and 8 o'clock. Killing the engines of his Viper, he thrusted backwards, letting two sabres slip straight past his nose. They started to peel away together, wheeling round to meet his Viper head on. With his finger leaning heavily on his trigger he aimed at the Sabre that had peeled right, blowing away its aft fin with a well aimed blast. By the time he was able to land more hits onto the sabre, the other had taken a place directly on Simeon's six, and was narrowly missing his Viper with a closeness that made Simeon's palms sweat. Landing the killer blow onto the Sabre he was chasing, Simeon spun his Viper through the wreakage left behind and dropped two nuclear mines. These hung in the space motionless like two fixed bodies before the tracking systems came online and started to follow his Viper. 'Frak, they started up to early' Simeon screamed through his helmet, watching as the nuclear mines headed towards his own ship, the Sabre following up quickly behind them. Simeon then thought of a tactical move taught to him at war college, targeting one of the mines Simeon launched a cruise disruptor missile into it. The blast did not damage the hull of the trailing Sabre, but it did force him to make a quick jerk right. Locking onto the other mine Simeon repeated the move, this time the blast radius hitting the Sabre and knocking the weapons systems of it offline. Noticing the lack of fire coming from the Sabre, Simeon took his chances and fired off a 2 second burst through what little remained of the Sabre's hull, hitting a fuel pipe underneath the plating and causing one of the engines to blow. The sabre spun wildly out of control, striking Simeon's Viper and severing half of the port wing off, damaging the controling systems. Simeon swore loudly before initaiting contact with the Rubicon. "Rubicon control this is Bane, i am badly damaged, requesting priority clearance for my approach" "Roger that Bane, you have the clearance, make your approach. The Chief has his ground teams ready for you as soon as you touch down." Simeon hit his thrusters, battling with the controls to keep the Viper on a clear and steady path. Lining up with the port hanger bay, Simeon maneuvered his Viper through the bay doors and landing lopsided into the hanger. Engaging what mag locks he had left he waited as the ship was lowered into the underbelly of the Battlestar and was quickly set upon by the engineers of the ground team. An hour and one debriefing later Simeon was asked by his CAG to report to the Commander's quarters. Approaching the hatch to the CO's quarters he wondered what he had done to receive this summons. Nothing came to mind other than the usual line of duty flying he had recently been involved in, and if a report was needed from that then surely the CAG would be a more suitable choice. Knocking on the hatch door he awaited permission to enter. Upon hearing this he entered and was greeted by the hand and smile of the commander. After answering a few questions Simeon was handed an unopened envelope. The commander told him to open it, which Simeon did with apprehension. Unfolding the paper inside he read it to himself. Bane You have new orders to proceed immediatly to Minato Harbour in the Tau 44 system where you will board the transport shuttle Delta 427. Leave for Minato immediatly. This is under a strict order of silence, do not mention this to anyone, do not say goodbyes. All equipment you will need is placed on the shuttle. Tell your commander you have been reassigned. He will pass word for a ship to be made available to you. That was all, just like that he was expected to drop everything? Simeon stuggled to comprehend what it was he was being asked to do. He had no choice though, orders were orders. He caught the Commanders eye and told him he had been reassigned. Moving out of the door the commander wished him luck and so Simeon left with his commanders blessing. Moving through the ship he saw faces he knew, people that tried to stop him to talk. He brushed right past them, moving towards the hanger bays and one of the Vipers kept back on stand by. Launching from the tubes this time bought a completly different set of emotions to him. Instead of launching into battle he was launching into something worse. The unknown, his orders kept secret to even the highest levels of command aboard the Rubicon. He peered through his cockpit as he made his final pass round the Rubicon, before spinning up his FTL drives and jumping to Tau 44. |
