PoB sieges nowadays? - Mercury - 03-15-2021

Hi!

I'm a returnee and would like an update on how PoB sieges go nowadays. Back in the day the RHA rampaged a dozen bases be it any core level. I wonder if this changed with the Hit Points buff. I guess it would take ages to destroy a core 2 with operational shields and decent supplies. Do people / factions still bother with it or it's just the occasional unregistered just-deployed core 1 bases in house regions that get blasted? Which regions are most and least active considering base sieges?

Thanks for your help! Smile

I'll use approximate numbers (the real ones are rather close).

Assume the base has a shield and enough fuel (easy to achieve, fuel consumption is rather low).
Bases can repair at the (25 million x core level) HP per day. No more. A repairing base will consume about (32k x core level) cargo units of repair commodities (mix of Reinforced Alloy, Robotic Hardware and Hull Segments), so this can actually be quite demanding on the defending side.

A single battleship can deal up to 25 million HP of damage per hour. So, to overcome a maximum daily repair rate of a Core 4 base, you need to siege for 4 hours a day if you have a single battleship, or for 2 hours if you have 2 battleships, etc.

Max HP per core level:
1 - 400 million
2 - 600 million
3 - 800 million
4 - 1200 million
5 - 1600 million

So besieging even a core4 base should be easy, but somewhat time consuming with only 3-4 battleships. That's interesting.

So are sieges happening nowadays besides unregistered core1s?

No, you need a ton of the BSes to make sure it is dead and not getting ganged by the 1010101010 Defenders

Yeah they are. We even had a official event last weekend with a siege element. The poor thing lasted a couple hours - Enclave fielded 13+ people during working hours on a workday Big Grin

Bretonia had multiple sieges, all successfull, from both sides. And nobody wants to play the house since then - people just got fed up of sieging even new PoBs and stopped logging the house instead.

Not somewhat, but EXTREMELY time consuming. Other than that, yes, it can be relatively easy. You would also have to overcome defenders' efforts, but that is rarely a problem since maintaining a 24/7 watch is extremely difficult for anyone but the biggest player groups.

They are happening.

Since pob sieges must be registered anyway, make them into a mini combat event at the weekends. So that people have time to prepare ships on both sides and use the combat system to tally up the result. Kinda defeats the purpose of the core strength, but afaik it might be more interesting to participate in.
