Delta 4 - Firewolfy - 05-26-2021

Entry One: Exploratory Surgery

Delta 4 originally started as a upgraded research project to examine alien artifacts gathered over the past 10 years from various ruins and traders. At the request of several scientists in the Zoners, including those among Corinth, it was seen that the majority of research made on alien devices was slow and very time consuming, so a more specialized approach was developed for this matter. A number of people, under the initial leadership of one former Colonel Kaplain, a officer who worked in both the Liberty and Bretonia militaries was put together to organize various people from different Zoner groups that were interested in advancing our knowledge on such things.

In March 826 AS, a more official status was given to the group, known as Project Wanderer. Many alien items recovered over the years were brought together and starting on May 6 of 826, in depth plans were made by the team to research strictly alien items, mainly those that were known to be of Nomad origin. A lot of data was cross referenced of that such as what was recovered by previous encounters so that some findings were easier to verify.

Entry Two: Mind games

On June 6, 826 a incident occurred where a pair of scientists working on a newly captured item attempted to bypass local safety systems to conduct a major decompression of the research wing. Fortunately, automatic fail-safes engaged and no life was lost or damage incurred. After the medical team looked over the pair and with footage captured during the incident, it was determined that they were acting beyond their own mental capacity. The same items were reviewed by other scientists and they had found the item in question had mind-altering effects and affected their minds in some way that made them act not like themselves. A number of artifacts came into question as to their safety level and it was deemed that any further investigations would require likely some special training. It was at this point the project leaders decided that things would have to be done in a more careful matter going forward.

In the weeks to follow, the majority of the team, specifically those handling the more active artifacts would undergo some special mental training to resist forms of “brain washing” or mind control techniques and other ways of enhanced suggestion. Using a small number of elite military operators on hand, they were able to adapt and train much of the team to use a number of techniques should any adverse affects begin to present themselves. Safety protocols were drastically increased and the items deemed more dangerous would also be in a far more controlled setting to reduce the chance of anomalous effects occurring

Entry Three: Backyard Diplomacy

As July of 826 came to a close, the local leadership determined that sitting on a station looking into a microscope would not yield the best results in learning more about the Nomads. Those among the team knew that going into the field would be paramount to finding more information and also learning new ways to combat them. Team Leader at that time Colonel Kaplain along with JJ Mathers spent several days conferring with the team and local group leaders in the area such as those not only aboard Livadia but also on Freeport 9.

On Freeport 9, debate was made about what sort of future such a team should have. On one side a lot advocated for a more passive approach, taking things slower and not putting a lot of field effort in. Knowing the Zoner ways, this was popular and while this did seem to to fit our goals to some extent, more had to be done. The other side of the conversation was how far the team would go for answers. In the past few years with a number of factions being unable to make amends with each other, forced them to take a more defensive stance in the Edge worlds, leaving some parts vulnerable to incursion by Nomads. Several among Project Wanderer were tired of only being able to simply fend off invasive measures made by the Nomads. Growing assaults against Edge World convoys mounted over the past year and increased frustration was seen among many Zoners. A change had to be made.

In addition, refugees arriving from the conflict in Omega 49 began to put a strain on logistics in Omicron Theta. The team at Wanderer sent forth a communication to those at Pygar and Corfu for any that would be interested in their cause. As it happens, a team of security operators who had managed to settle on Pygar, unwilling to fight Bretonia, were very eager to take on the alien terrorism we face. They showed considerable interest in helping where they could. This would mark the start of the tactical teams used by Delta 4.

Entry Four: Push and pull

By August 7th of 826, the debates underway on Freeport 9 sparked intense arguments over increasing attacks made by the Nomads and their allies. Several among the local Zoner groups had lost families and friends more recently to vicious attacks. More and more local leaders across Edge World Zoner bases were expressing a distrust for the Order and Core and their ability to properly defend our interests.

The leaders of the project always wanted a better path to not only defend ourselves from the Nomads but also to outright strike against them, and with more ferocity than the local defense forces normally were able to do. The direction the were headed in was the route they finally needed to push their agenda.

Mutual agreements could not be made, many insisted they keep their exploratory efforts lowered to reduce chances of casualties while some were more impressed to take a offensive stance. Shout matches began the following day, and it seemed that any chance of agreements were likely not to happen. It was at this point that Colonel Kaplain finally took over the floor.

While speaking with the almost 50 individuals already on the base and part of the negotiations, and at the same time being tied in remotely to Freeports 5 and 11, Colonel Kaplain made a ultimatum.

“I have heard enough of this these past days. For too long, the Nomads have constantly pushed us back, stopping our advances and causing infighting among the colonies. We have sat back for too long, watching our friends and family die from within our Freeports. We value neutrality over almost everything, even our own lives sometimes. Well, I say no more. No more will we simply sit back. No more will we watch as our so-called “protectors” fight more with each other than our true enemy. The loss of Toledo, increased raids in the Omicrons, to name a few. Almost 20 years ago our race was nearly wiped out, and all you can do is argue. For shame I say, for shame!”

Some among the room began to boo him and blurting out various accusation. But he continued even louder.

“As of this moment, I will no longer simply watch from the inside of a laboratory. I move for immediate re-direction of the primary focus of this Project to made into one that will make a real difference. I call on all who hear this, not just only Zoners but those that want a focused vision. Your background is irrelevant. A focus to make a real change. Those who still wish to make scientific endeavours will continue to be welcome among our team. But from now on, we will go forth and attack the Nomads, we will make them bleed, obliterate them whenever they try to make a move. We will see them retreat from the bridges of our ships. We will find their secrets and use them against themselves. Join me on Freeport 9.”

At that point he sat down and didn't say another word until the day wrapped up. Many did not agree with him, seeing it as a warmongering way to act against what Zoners do. But the call was heard, and over the next two weeks, several Freelancers, former pirates and a number of other privateers and military operators showed up on Freeport 9.

Entry Five: Change in the Air

A decision was finally made to commission a vessel that would serve as the forefront and face of Wanderer. A number of small transports were already being used for movement of supplies and devices but it was time to go on the offensive. In the weeks to follow, the group also decided that a new name would be needed going forward, something that sounded more official, and as of September 4th 826, Project Wanderer was renamed to Operations Unit Delta 4.
This new take started initiatives to take a more proactive approach to both offensive activity against Nomads and continued acquisition of artifacts. The Unit would very soon become a new outfit that would go farther than most others normally would go, to combat the vile alien threat.

A need for a experienced tactical operators was also desired, and the roster of newer members was reviewed again to see what was available. With the high likely hood of needing to defend the ship internally from potential boarding action and the possibility of capturing derelict wrecks or outposts on the table, They turned to the group of security specialists and soldiers that were recruited from Pygar. They would get a more official standing and had begun to train to combat alien threats based off all available intel. In the weeks to follow their teamwork and vigilance in a number of small operations and training simulations showed them to be very effective. Their leader, one Commander Rossi would help them get past any obstacle, gaining them the name “Gatecrashers”.

Around this time, a handful of interested parties and individuals would flock to Freeport 9 to apply to join this team to help any way they can. They were seen to arrive from all walks of a life and the more diverse group brought more ideas and ways of working to the table, some of which would be put to the table in the near future.

Additional singular and small groups of interested science personnel, ship staff, even former miners would also apply for the trailblazing project now underway.

Entry Six: New Wings

By December 10th, a delegation of team leaders entered talks with Livadia about obtaining a ship suitable for such operations. Several options were considered, including a combat-rigged heavy transport, a Fearless Destroyer under recent repairs and a nearly completed Aquilon Carrier. The first two options were seen as being likely too small to handle what we had in mind. In conjunction with the labs doing their research at Corinth, it also was desired to conduct limited scientific research on-board the ship, with having a number of labs and holding areas for alien items. With large Nomad ships being a major threat, a ship of near-equal strength was wanted to take them toe to toe.

It didn't take long to convince the shipwrights of what we needed. The Aquilon was initially planned to be deployed on basic defense duty, but the operators of the shipyard were easily convinced that our mission was much more valuable. Delta 4's initiatives had become very popular with the local groups and it was mainly due to that reason, they approved it's release to us.

Since the ship was not totally complete, moderate modifications were able to be made to it's interior and a number of systems. The first thing was to make sensor enhancements for increased detection. Being able to find objects farther away is always a good thing. Next was the weapon systems. Modifications were made for better targeting systems and the higher level capital assault weapons available to us were attached to the vessel. The last major aspect was the science and containment areas. With the Carrier being mainly used for cargo and holding of several small craft, much of that was reworked into 3 separate science labs, 2 temporary holding rooms and 6 high security containment cells. With the high likelihood of traveling into known radioactive zones as well with our research, some of the armor was adapted to last longer in such hostile environments too.

By April 25 827 AS, the refits on the ship were nearly finished, it was during this time that focus was put on finding the proper crew for such a ship. In addition, the Aquilon would be dubbed the Stormhawk.

RE: Delta 4 - Firewolfy - 06-15-2021

Entry Seven: Gearing up

Throughout the past months, the team began to choose a crew for their new ship, one that would both be adaptive to situations and have sufficient experience to complete their missions. With JJ having extensive combat experience with his past life working in the Liberty Navy, he was recommended to captain a ship that would be the tip of the spear in long range flights and engagements. The core of the bridge crew would also include HelmsLady Nexia Daxhie, a Rheinlandic Woman, who was a bounty hunter mainly based out of Freeport 5, known as who had experience flying a wide array of ships. The Operations Chief would be Fallon Hayes, born on a IMG base who handled coordinating procedures among other stations.

A number of others were considered to assist with the Engineering operations, including a bright young Engineer from Livadia known as Waxford. Waxford would help lead the team that would take care of the ship and collect several more interested people and parties that had signed on to the Unit. Three science teams would be commissioned, with one being charged with managing a Astrogation Lab and keeping track of places of note in the galaxy. Another team would handle the primary research advancement on Nomad other Alien technology and a third team would be in charge of the safe capture and containment as well as having the first look of Alien artifacts and dangerous alien devices. This team would be assisted in part by the Gatecrashers, to which several more members were accepted to the team to help specifically with that.

Over the months of June and July 827, the future crew would get familiarized with shipboard operations and simulations to handle a variety of possible scenarios. The Command crew would be reviewing the ship status and learning all they could to get the ship underway when everything was ready, as well as managing their own divisions of personnel.
Another tactical force that would be called “The Falchion”, would also be created during this time. The Falchion's duty would be the interior protection of the ship, should any incident occur at all and also with several of the members having experience as shipboard and station security, they would also be used to make incursions into hostile space installations or ships. With the growing number of Derelict stations left dead in space and the possibility of rescuing survivors from a stranded vessel, this was seen as a acceptable need for the Unit.

By August, preparations were finally almost complete, with the Stormhawk's modifications complete and the crew almost fully selected and ready for the mission, the time was nearly upon us to finally begin the maiden voyage.

RE: Delta 4 - Firewolfy - 06-29-2021

Entry Eight: Launch Day

The time had finally come for our flagship to officially begin operations. What felt like endless months of planning and confirming personnel, operational procedures and system's status had come to a close. Our hard work was paying off and what had begun a year and half earlier as merely a science project had now become a full Unit of organized and professionally managed team all working towards a common goal.
Final checks across the board were started on September 27th and by October 2nd , The Stormhawk would officially launch and begin offensive operations immediately. Since most of the crew were new to larger vessel operations, it would be almost a week of shakedown cruising before the command crew was content with how things were working. Several tests were performed during this time including weapon system evaluation, sensor sweeps and engine threshold limits.

During the past several months, several of our scout ships were deployed to known and suspected areas of where Nomad ships had been sighted near colonized areas. Their goal was to locate potential installations that had either confirmed or highly suspected Nomad-influence. Shortly after the shakedown cruise was complete, the Stormhawk was deployed to several Border and Edge World systems to follow up with recon reports.

The recon reports would lead to increased requests by the Unit to move to many different sectors to respond to urgent situations and rendezvous with allies sooner. This variable was fortunately taken into consideration long before the launch date. The easiest remedy to this was to procure a Jump Drive for such things. During the refit of the Stormhawk at Livadia, this request was brought up, but the technical team there would be unable to acquire and install one within our time frame. Despite this, the ship would still launch and thanks to Commander Kaplain and JJ's pre-planned efforts, at the end of October 827, one would be purchased and installed by a Zoner group operating in Liberty known as the Genesis Research Group.

During the next several months up until the end of the year, the Unit proceeded on a wide range of paths to find areas of interest for both scientific purposes and possible offensive activity. A handful of areas were noted to having confirmed Nomad and Wild activity, which would test the ship's crew in defense and efficiency. Significant effort was put into making scans and inspections of anything that could be used to further their goals. Burnt shreds of Nomad vessels, damaged weapons and powercells, were among just the start of what would be recovered by the Unit throughout this time. Up until this point, capturing these things were rare outside larger combat operations as the majority of captured Alien artifacts and technology were usually second hand passed on from explorers and mercenaries that had no use of them.

By the end of December 827, Delta 4 had conducted several successful operations, in part thanks to assistance from a number of Bounty hunters, Freelancers, Outcasts and other interested parties that showed a level of interest in their exploits. The Unit would go on to continue to build relations with any that sought to make moves against the Nomads and help with logistical matters to make our movements easier and streamlined.

In addition to this, both Kaplain and JJ are working on a plan to push the Unit beyond it's borders and assault any Nomad or infected ships wherever they may be. This project as been codenamed “Epsilon 11” and when the time is right, will be put into action. Already results are being seen on the frontline and they do not want to hold back.

RE: Delta 4 - Firewolfy - 06-29-2021

Entry Nine: The Business End

Beginning in around Feburary and March, the remains of Delta 4 residing on Freeport 9, would continue to work the backend for the Stormhawk and her crew. Several connections with other groups and factions were established, chiefly among the Order. These connections have helped them to boost their operations and freedom of movement in relations and areas of space that would otherwise would not be easily accessible.

In May 828 AS, new technology was procured from the Phoenix, who were very accommodating to Delta 4. Such tech proved to be extremely helpful in detecting infected vessels. A number of confirmed infected ships were terminated throughout the months. Additional effort was constantly put into hunting down Nomad assault groups and hunting packs, and going to great lengths in putting them down. Everything was finally coming together to advance the Unit in the direction it's leadership desired.

Some conjecture arose among the personnel aboard Freeport 9 to the extent Delta 4 was going to go, but the team decided it was better to worry about their own goals first. By early June 828 AS, the time had come to put into motion the plan was in the works from the start.

RE: Delta 4 - Firewolfy - 07-01-2021

Entry Ten: Secure, Contain, Protect.

This entry was made more hastily than the others, mainly because we needed to advance our goals quickly to see success.

The time has now arrived to begin what was planned from many months before, away from the ears of those that are not among Delta 4. Many among the Unit knew from long ago, that they may need to go beyond the call of duty to accomplish a greater good.

As of July 1, 828 AS, Delta 4 along with the Stormhawk will move to their next and final objective. With that we will begin a 2-tiered motion. The first being to secure a unhandled Nomad Powercell and handful of Alien items from our people at Corinth. The second being to openly engage any Nomad or Infected ships at any time.

Delta 4 will also not hesitate to eradicate any possible alien targets anymore, they are moving beyond standard diplomacy and will no longer take into account various onsite factors before engaging.

Also, the last-

ERROR.....Partial message corrupted. Recovering data....

Recovery complete. Accessing datafile...

Protocol Epsilon 11 is to be initiated immediately. All Alien vessels and infected vessels detected within local range from this point onward have now been designated for termination. Any other groups or persons attempting to interfere with such directives will also be cleared for termination.

Please re-contain High Value object Omega-0 and transfer onboard the Stormhawk. Gatecrashers will assist. For security reasons, all outbound transmissions from this point must also be cleared directly from either the Captain or a member of the command crew. All Alien technology onboard will remain classified for the time being.

Our operations are to remain outside of primary House Space and we are not to enter within unless in extreme circumstances. Any suspicious vessels detected beyond their borders are to be engaged.

Delta 4 fights for the greater good of humanity.
