The Gallic Union met the information that the Crayter Republic has concluded a mutual defense pact with Bretonia and Kusari against Gallia with sadness and disappointment. We consider this pact as an aggression against the security and sovereignty of Gallic state. Therefore, until you justify your actions, your access to the Gallic territories has been discontinued and any appear of your vessels would be considered as the violation of Gallic Laws.

Minister,

I expected something like this to happen, though I suppose I didn't count on Lady Mountbatten's.. flamboyance with her selection of words. Understand that it is still of great interest to Crayter to develop and build ties with the Gallic Union and her people, despite what may be construed from the Bretonian Secretary's transmission.

Our initial interest was ending the war with Kusari, of which they had declared just before their invasion of the Confederacy. A pact of mutual defense against the Union was one topic brought up just beforehand, and we agreed solely as a security blanket against yet another war. With the sole exception of the detainment of Admiral Dupouy, of whom Crayter firmly believes is a war criminal who has so far received no reprimand for the actions that took place under his guidance, the demands made by Bretonia in line with the pact are primarily to the benefit of them and them alone, as I'm sure you can tell. Crayter, during the inter-war period before Kusari's invasion, had already secured an agreement with EFL over trade lane maintenance within Tau-31, which we are electing to default to over the terms of the treaty.

It is still very much the belief of the Republic that building ties to the Union will only further both our nations' goals. Added security never hurts, if not for the Republic then for our people, and I believe in our position the Union would do much the same. In the interest of further cooperation, we will continue to allow Gallic shipping, official personnel, and civilians to transit Crayter space freely. We intend to follow the spirit of the pact to the letter, and wish to assure you that we have no intention of following Bretonia or Kusari should they make any aggressive approaches towards Gallia with the intent of feigning a defensive retaliation.

I hope this offers at least some insight as to our decisions in this matter. It was never the intent of the Republic to undermine the security of the Gallic Union; only to ensure the security of our people against the threat of yet another war. I hope the Union will understand and accept our reasoning.

Madame Ward,

We understand that the Crayter Republic and the other parties of the treaty fear a new war, just as we understand your question about the former Royalists who were accused of committing war crimes during the Second Gallic War. Those who were considered guilty by the Military Tribunal were executed, and such fate awaits for the remaining members of the DeFrance family, who were considered guilty in crimes against the Gallic Nation. Some Gallic Royalists avoided swift and just punishment, and are currently marauding and raiding at our borders, calling themselves Fleur Royale -- we believe you are familiar with these marginals.

The Gallic Union, distinct from its predecessors, has never had a reason to declare war on the Crayter Republic, neither on the rest of the treaty's parties. We believe you understand that if we would like to seek aggression, it would already have happened, and as a proof of goodwill we can allow your ships to travel through our space, visit our planets and stations once again, as well as offer support against the Outcasts.

How can we trust Bretonia, the initiator of these demands? How can you trust a coward? As you can remember, the Bretonian fleet had not come to help you during the devastating Outcast attack on Tau-44, they instead hid in Tau-31 -- this is but one proving factor of their treachery. Or Kusari, that attacked the Confederacy of Gallia, demanding the now defunct Confederacy to surrender the weapons of mass destruction it did not even hold. What for? To use these weapons against YOU, as they captured the outpost next to Holman Station in Tau-31. Do you trust them too?

The last time the Gallic state decided to follow the path of diplomacy, all we received in return was a devastating war with a flimsy justification by the House of Kusari, so how can we believe this time it will not be the same?

Minister,

Firstly, I thank you for once more allowing our civilian ships access to your territory. We have not aimed to take this gesture for granted before and we do not aim to yet.

Now, as I stated before, Crayter's sole interest alongside Bretonia's demands was the punishment of Admiral Dupuoy; If the Union has made certain to ensure that any former Royalist personnel, including the members of the Royal family, receive the appropriate punishment, then all we (and Bretonia) would need are the documentation. While it isn't exactly what Bretonia wants, it still follows the spirit of the demand, and Crayter at least will be satisfied.

As for the remainder of your words, they do ring truth.
Bretonia as a nation is prideful by nature. Crayter is aware, as I'm sure the Union is. Even with the benefit of hindsight, and despite Bretonia's unfortunate decision to liberate Edinburgh instead of aiding us in Tau-44, it was to be expected given Bretonia's history. However, despite this they remain at our back and we at theirs, at least for the time being. How they will plan to enforce these demands of theirs against the Union will no doubt have an impact on this, I'm sure, as most of the demands are to their benefit.

Kusari on the other hand.. To be frank, Crayter has no more trust in Kusari than we do in any regular pirate band. The pact, as I said before, was primarily to end our war with Kusari, and to receive reparations from them as well as our anchorage in Tau-31. Beyond the stipulations of the treaty, I personally don't expect to be in contact with the Kusari representative for long.

I will be rather frank, Minister. The last thing either of us wants is another war. It litters the Taus with wrecks, it costs precious lives, and forces us to take measures when we would much rather be providing development for our citizens. As I said, Crayter has no interest in following Kusari or Bretonia should they decide to feign a defensive retaliation, and we don't intend to divert from that ideal. Whether or not the same is true for Bretonia or Kusari is hotly debated, but you have the Republic's stance on this.

I am Antoinette Martin, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

We are glad to hear that you appreciate restoration of your access to our space, as well as we hope you understand how difficult this solution is for such a society as ours -- the past experience has made our people to approach foreigners with caution.

Admiral Dupuoy is one of those who escaped the justice, using the short period of instability during the reunification of Gallic house. His location remains unknown for us, but our best people are searching for him or any sight of remaining DeFrance in Gallia and its borders, however, lack of luck means they either hiding deeper in Taus, or elsewhere in known, or even unknown space. The list of executed will be provided to the Crayter Republic, and it remains to you if you willing to share it with the rest of the treaty signers.

Bretonia, even if prideful, yet is still treacherous in our eyes: our concept of braveness, pride and honour is different of theirs, and if our ally would require our assistance we would do our best providing it, should it be armed, logistics, other. Their attempt to insult our Ministry of Foreign Relationship by sending a lower-ranked representative, incapable to sustain neutral tone was noted as well. Kusari, however, did show neither, but their cowardish attempt on our sovereignty will be forever remembered and recorded on pages of Gallic history for generations to come. We can only wish you luck and strength in your endeavour with these nations.

However, unlike them, the Crayter Republic has managed to gain credit of trust and respect since the very day our nations met. While we regret for certain events happened in the past, we cannot change them, but your braveness in fighting the Royal Navy during the Sirius-Gallic War, and later siding with both Defence Forces and now - Gallic Navy against our common enemies was noted by our leadership.

Your frankness is noted, and we share similar point of view. The Gallic Union, despite being run by honoured military officers, is not willing another pointless bloodshed to happen, but if there be attempt on our unity, sovereignty or pride, no matter how they justify it, -- we will answer in full strength. Do not consider this like a threat, but we doubt you are willing to face the rage of Gallia for the second time.

It is a pleasure to meet you, and thank you for your time. I’d like to thank you for your compliment firstly, the Crayter Republic has always prided ourselves on maintaining composure and respect in matters of foreign exchange and diplomacy, in spite of its increasing rarity in this day and age.

The Kingdom of Bretonia has grown impatient unfortunately for us to announce our immediate embargo of House Gallia per the terms of the Treaty of Harris, though our concern remains on the possible devastation this will cause to our economic and commercial activities in the Taus. We may, in the end have no other choice but to comply, in the name of preventing further bloodshed to our torn borders, unless a favorable alternative presents itself. Though we wish not to sever our newly restored relationship to Gallia, subjecting ourselves to Bretonia’s “fits” may prove highly detrimental and lead to more loss of life.

Your offer of the names of executed war criminals is a generous one and one we will happily receive and perhaps passing these on to the other treaty signers will help to abate the situation to some degree, though I doubt it will sate the Bretonian government completely, especially with Admiral Dupuoy still at large. As for the other demands they have made upon the Union, perhaps a counterproposal would help to mediate and encourage continued peace? The particulars of these demands are of no interest to the Republic and only serve to smooth the proud plumage of Cambridge hierarchy, but nonetheless threaten to upend our tenuous peace.

I wish this meets you agreeably and look forward to our continued discussion.

The following file contains record of former Royal Navy personnel's executions in the first quarter of year 744. Most of judge happened during that period and currently only occasional renegades being hunted down in result of raids on the Gallic Royalists within our territories.

Ms. Martin,

The provided documents on the Royalist executions has been well received, and we can confirm your report that Admiral Dupuoy is not among them. While it is clearly a concern to our people and efforts within the Taus, not to mention the tens of thousands who traverse our tradeways daily, our people work best when focused. To that end, our Minister of Defense has proposed that a triumvirate effort by Crayter, Gallia, and Bretonia be made to bring the last of these Royalist holdouts to justice. The fate of Admiral Dupuoy can be decided upon his capture, though Minster Westbrook has recommended a military tribunal involving all three nations to ensure that proper justice is brought upon him.

During this time, Crayter's borders will remain open to trade in and out of Gallia, and I would also strongly urge Gallia to reconsider the demands made by Bretonia. Crayter is willing to temporarily suspend all standard tariffs and import duties of commodities and passengers coming from the Gallic Union. This, in combination with access to the rest of the Sirian market through the Taus, should help Gallia's economy remain stable while services are provided as per Bretonia's 'demands'. Crayter would also be looking to Gallia to assist in the rework and construction of a considerable number of space-based stations and orbital facilities, which would also bring more business to Gallia. I am, however, merely paraphrasing our Minister of Trade, who can likely go into greater detail.

Please let us know if this arrangement is doable.

The Gallic Union shall nor cannot agree to the terms of the Treaty, especially after the ambassador of the Bretonian Kingdom offended our state with their rank and behavior. Despite this, the Union is looking forward to developing friendly relations with Crayter and hence will propose the following agreement for consideration of the Republic. Thank you for your continued patience as we review this matter. The document you propose looks to be a great positive leap forward towards mutual peace and prosperity- and needed stability in the Tau Worlds.

The Republic is happy to make such moves to a brighter tomorrow but first we must address the unfortunate obligation placed upon us via the Treaty of Harris. The embargo Bretonia seeks serves only to incite upheaval and economic ruin and yet the Kingdom seems all too eager to embrace this. We had hoped it would not come to this and that, some more diplomatic outcome would be achieved. However, in the aims to move past this hurtle towards a better bond with the Gallic Union whilst still adhering to the terms dictated by the Treaty of Harris, our ministry finds no restrictions or limitations relating to the duration our embargo of your nation is necessitated to last. Therefore, if you will forgive us this minor inconvenience, a twenty-four hour complete trade embargo will be observed at our Gallic borders, suspending all trade, commerce, and other economic activity starting in 3 days at midnight New Thessalonica Time.

The resulting chaos will be unfortunate, but short-lived. Once this has been completed, the Republic would like to pledge ourselves in agreement to this Pact.
