My Violent Heart - Reeves - 02-02-2022 Sierra Starport; Coronado System; Independent Worlds How long had it been? Probably a decent stretch of time, long enough for thousands to be killed by biological weapons and countless more displaced. Weeks, or at most over a month since he'd seen her. It was a strange thing to be fixated on, cropping up whenever he had a moment to himself that allowed his mind to wander. That or it was about the plant, somebody was getting kicked out an airlock if they didn't feed it as instructed, this was a partially necessary absence after all.
From his seated position on the couch, his eyes swapped between the still-closed door and a PDA, a potential source of distraction while passing the time. At least there was good news, that project Nathan was looking into had gone somewhere, but again only partially. A budding genius, by some definition, had decided to neglect using parts deemed redundant and of course caused complications. There was the added fact that anything to do with computer systems was almost always something he'd need to help with, and this situation wasn't any different. For a moment he considered how he was going to go about all this. But then he thought he heard somebody at the door and looked up again. RE: My Violent Heart - Lochrath - 02-03-2022 Downtime was her bane. Mary enjoyed being active, she liked feeling progress. She liked feeling as if steps were being taken towards a goal. A diplomatic meeting was hardly that. It was long and drawn out. Even following the larger meeting, there was need to discuss with others, then a final meeting between themselves to go over options. She left that final meeting early after throwing a datapad and her boot at Jasper Grey. At the door, she ducked and got her other boot off to throw that uselessly at the table and stormed out. She walked around the station long enough to cool down, her socked feet helping physically cool her down as the metal floor plates absorbed heat. In her wandering she had somehow found herself outside of the few rooms the Xeno party had taken up. More specifically she found herself outside Morreti's room. A quiet knock, a pause, then followed up with a louder beat of the door. When the door actually opened she didn't miss a beat and walked in. She stood in the middle of the room and after a quick scan of it brought her attention to Morreti. A second passed as her brain attempted to formulate words. Abruptly, she announced, "I hate this station." RE: My Violent Heart - Reeves - 02-03-2022 Refreshingly direct, that was probably why he liked her. But it did indicate quite the problem, she hated where they currently were and that was bound to only spoil her mood further. Being as willing to go with the flow, as he often was, he stood up and secured his PDA in a pocket before getting his gloves and helmet. "Let's get out of here then." If she doubted whether he was serious or not, he made sure to answer that by slipping on the gloves and then holding his helmet to a side, clearly ready to pop it on and leave.
Of course there was the possibility that she might decide to stay here, and while she no doubt thought that over, he took a few paces in her direction and watched for a reaction. Curiously, she was missing her shoes, and he wondered if there was an interesting story behind that or if she simply couldn't be bothered putting them on. RE: My Violent Heart - Lochrath - 02-04-2022 Perhaps surprisingly, she stepped closer to meet him and attempted an embrace. If Morreti allowed it, it was brief and if not, she seemed alright with that. At the idea of getting out of there, she led them out into the hallway and towards the main hangar where he knew the Xeno procession of ships were docked. Spotting his, she only just then seemed to notice how inconvenient being shoeless was and frowned. She pulled up her hair and tamed it back with a band while speaking. "Where to?" RE: My Violent Heart - Reeves - 02-04-2022 The embrace was something he accepted and then encouraged with a small degree of intimacy, entitling himself to a kiss before just standing there with her for a few seconds. When she left the room and seemed intent on getting to the hangars, he followed her briskly until they arrived at his ship, he shot a glance in her direction when posed with a question. "Wherever you want to go." While it was intended to be a gesture to take the edge off and help her relax, it almost sounded like it was a challenge too. A way of saying that she should pick a place that she absolutely wanted to go to, even if it was difficult to reach.
Regardless of what her answer might be, he slid the canopy open and gestured for her to get in, a sly smirk on his face when doing so betrayed the fact that he was waiting for her to react to something. Getting inside would reveal that her seat was bolted in place, rendered a permanent addition which would have to be removed in order to be stowed away, a sign of commitment. RE: My Violent Heart - Lochrath - 02-04-2022 She plugged her head into the helmet which sat on her seat. Looking down, she noticed the bolts and welds. Without comment she sat and strapped herself in. When the communication channel went live, she spoke up. "Open space. Just in the system f'now." And expertly, off they went. As they left behind a station full of duties and responsibilities, Mary found herself relaxing. After a minute or two she spoke in a calmed tone, as if they had just met for the first time that day. "So how've you been? Any fun stories t'sing out?" Her voice was gathering back it's wit. She really did not respond well to bureaucracy even if she was good at it, it seemed. RE: My Violent Heart - Reeves - 02-04-2022 Sat atop one of the larger asteroids, both to serve as a place to 'park' and also conceal the ship's signature on the scope. Wondering if she'd still be flustered by this, he turned back to face her and indulged in idle conversation. "Navy's invaded Kansas, rumor is that they used some Bretonian attack group as bait so that their offensive goes smoothly. Don't know how far along it is, tempted to make our own moves now." He figured that she was going to eventually ask him about the plant, so he decided to give her a status update before she could even consider asking him about it. "Your plant's doing well, just in case you were wondering." Rather than asking her anything, he left it to her to direct the conversation, knowing that leaving her in charge of the direction it took would help take her mind off things.
RE: My Violent Heart - Lochrath - 02-04-2022 She bobbed her helmed head as he spoke. When the plant came up she smirked and relaxed some. "Good. If it was doin' bad then that's mean you don't take care of nothin'." Her socked feet moved about, unsure how to handle being so exposed to the harshness that boots generally saved them from. " 'eard something about that. Bretonian fleet movements. Now that we control Gaia, we might end up shipped to Vesp' to help out. Been operating there f'ah but now." She said. Her words were muffled by the helmet, but also by what she could and could not say. She wasn't going to name their station or that they were conducting regular raids. Just enough to give Morreti an idea of what they had going on in that area. RE: My Violent Heart - Reeves - 02-04-2022 Nodding emphatically, he seemed to know what she was talking about, and explained himself to show that much. "With the Cohort then, been trying to get them to stop hating us, that way we can help them the same way we help the people from the Range. But they've never been willing to get over our unintended severance of their supply line from Magellan." This would also reveal the fact that he was acutely aware of the things occurring in his neck of the woods, and even the areas around it, being well connected and always informed kept him competitive with a laundry list of rivals.
For a moment his eyes went downwards and then back up, essentially giving her the onceover before deciding to just say what was on his mind, perpetually uncensored as he was. "If you're feeling cold because you ditched your shoes, you should be able to squeeze your way over and join me. Why'd you leave without them anyway?" It was enough of an excuse to get her closer, especially since the ship was currently idling on a large rock and needed no input from Morreti. RE: My Violent Heart - Lochrath - 02-04-2022 She took that suggestion happily, doing an awkward squirm to get beside him. It cause one leg to lay atop of his, but she didn't mind. Her face coloured faintly in embarrassment as the elephant in the room was pointed out. "Got tired of meetin's. Took them off an' threw'em at Jasper. He was tryin' to say we couldn't use resources an' equipment we supply ourselves without accountin' for it to him. Right bastard. We account f'what he gets us, but salvage is ours. Prick." Jasper was, in all likelihood, doing the right thing and simply trying to maintain an inventory. It could even possibly support their movement if he could prove they needed more financial support. However, proving that need to a crew of egotistical terrorists as a politician doesn't generally go well. |
