It is ridiculous, but so are the nomads and the other Daam K'Vosh creations. They've basically played around with gravity on that one, you can read the infocard.

I can't remember the name of the artist, but the guy who covered a mountian in cloth.
We humans do some fairly absurd things, and if we could do stuff on a scale such as that for artistic reasons, I'm sure we would.

It does seem like gallia has a whole lot of 'special' features. Largest planet in sirius! Largest rings in sirius! Most planets arranged in ball in sirius! Most french systems in sirius!
